With all the talk about the disaster on Puerto Rico, there has been little coverage of the same tragedy on the US Virgin Islands. My mother lives on St. Thomas as that is where she was born and decided to retire. After weeks of not being able to talk to her, I finally was able to get her on a phone call last Sunday night. The Island is devastated and they have no power, water and food are in little supply and yet our government is doing little to help the people there. These Islands are out territories and being American citizens, this is an outrage. I am very disappointed with this administration and to see how the response to the devastation in Houston and Florida, was immediate and comprehensive, why is it taking so long to respond to these particular American citizens? I missed last Sunday racing but it has been a difficult week knowing my mother won't leave St. Thomas. She says that is her home and she will not abandon her home in it's time of need. I know this is off topic but I felt the need to vent.....
I'm very sorry to hear about the island's devastation, but very happy to hear your mom is OK. I've been to St. Thomas and a few islands in the Caribbean and it really saddens me that so many people in the area have been so hard hit.
I'm writing a letter to the White House...again.. to voice my disaproval in the administration's poor performance and handling of the crisis and other things. It's sad that football takes precedence over disaster-ravaged citizens.
Thanks for sharing with us Onyx.

The damage is overwhelming and pushing many to the brink.
From what I have found, there has been a strong response and a considerable amount of help already. Disaster relief continues to pour in as conditions and access to the most remote areas improve
The article below provides an update of the DoD role and progress made already, specifically regarding the USVI

The American Red Cross continues to provide aid though US citizens donations.

I hope these articles help but yeah, this situation is terrible and only time and hard work can bring about the progress needed for these people to get back to some real sense of normalcy.[/QUOTE]
