For those of you that know that Football is played with the feet and not the hands....

Any interest of running Daily Race A la Snail @ the Nurb?

Was thinking 25 min race around the Nurb with your favorite GR3 car. 5X Fuel - 6X Tire Ware.

Any takers?

Football is being played today between the Patriots and the Eagles. Futbol is played with the feet but it is called soccer in America and is generally reserved for those athletes living in America that aren't very good at football or baseball or basketball or hockey or volley ball or golf or tennis or bowling or basically any other sport that exists.

I'll give rugby players a whole lot of credit. Soccer is played by guys who think getting bumped in the shoulder is the same as being shot in the back. It's just a whole lot of flopping and crying and kicking a ball around for an hour and a half while noone scores. If I wanted to watch grown men not score, I could just take three friends to the bar and watch them try and pick up women.

@Wolfsatz time you thinking

0900 EST... an hour and 15 minutes..

All those sports and their 'World Championships' played by local teams...

@JLBowler... I actually was pretty good at Football, Basketball, Volleyball and Tennis. Never fancied golf, and never got past 200 at bowling even though I liked it never really got into it.

But your point. I played very competitive soccer for 20 years, and yes I do despise those clowns that give the sport a bad rep at all levels.

I have to agree with Wolfsatz. World Cup and Euro league Soccer definitely has its fair share of good on field productions. But anyone who has played a 60-90 minute game of soccer will say that the endurance, agility, and game awareness is as intense and as difficult as any of the games mentioned, if not more so. Many many players that have come from soccer backgrounds can and have transitioned to other sports to great success, but rarely do you see an American Foortball or baseball players transition well to soccer.

Name one soccer player that transitioned to football, baseball, basketball, hocky, or any other sport. Kickers in football don't count as they do less than soccer players.

I can see how some might transition to distance runners but that's about it.

For the record, I have six varsity letters from high school. Football, basketball, baseball (catcher), soccer, bowling, and golf. Soccer was third most physically demanding ahead of only golf and bowling.

And these are just a few star NFL players, and not one mentioned here is a kicker.

Really? You're calling those cases guys who transitioned from soccer to another sport? When you said transitioned, I assumed you were talking about elite level soccer players who moved to another sport. You could probably name most athletes in any sport and they would have tried soccer sometime in their lives. Even I tried that stupid ass game for a year. Decided it was a waste of my time and moved on.

Not getting in a pissing contest about it. Just stating that the foundation and basics learned in soccer assists athletes to transition better to other sports than the other way around. The game is for some and not for others. To each his own.

For those that play the game, they either like it for a reason I can't understand or they can't take the physicality of the other sports. For those that watch it, I guess they can't find any drying paint or grass growing to watch so they opt for soccer. For the record, I put watching golf and bowling into the same bucket as watching soccer.

I took phisicality pretty darn well from all sports (I actually used to get mad at US refs for breaking a play because even when others try to foul me, I would just keep going); even broke my nose playing basketball. And the reason I like it.. is for the reasons that Nova states.. Just because a foot ball player can bench press 300 lbs does not mean he has any endurance whatsoever. And kickers do win games.

NO time outs to try to figure something else out.. 3 subs only. Strategy on the Fly! And one of the very few sports where a world cup is played with teams from all continents. No just a few states.

Soccer was a break from the other sports I played. Yes, there was more running but if that's what your're looking for, you might as well go run track. If you're looking for true physical battles with your opponent, soccer is not the place to find it. You will find guys acting like they've been shot any time they get touched, but if you want true man to man competition, look somewhere other than soccer.

Are we talking about the actual participation in soccer or the spectating of soccer?
I really want to chime in on this one as it directly relates to my job and passion. I have studied human athletic performance for over 22 years and love this topic as it's almost always based and biased on being a participant/competitor or spectator/fan, welcome to the world of competitive athletics. I'll try to keep it short and to the point.

1. From an athletic point. Soccer is a non-linear, multi-directional sport that requires a non-equal but positional dependent amount of strength endurance (repetitive strength vs. time) and power in addition to the normal human athletic demands and functions related to physical ability and coordination. (this is a very brief description)
a) Comparing soccer to similar (?) contact sports is a pointless discussion as one is non/limited-contact in it's rulings. So stop comparing soccer with other contact sports unless from a spectator POV.
2. From a spectator point. I like the athleticism of the sport of soccer, but for some reason was never really drawn into the fanatical side of the sport. Just me!

In my opinion, most field or court athletes don't even compare to the brutal athletic abilities of elite, olympic level gymnasts! Say what you will, but I've been fortunate enough to work with some of the most talented athletes from almost every major sport and I've never witnessed anything that comes close to the physical demands required to perform at that level of competition. The power, strength, speed, coordination and physical demands that are required at that level are awe inspiring. Funny thing is, most of the gymnasts that I've met are really good at whatever physical sport they attempt.

So I gave remote play a shot tonight. Honestly not too bad. Driving properly is fine, you just have to brake a little earlier and turn in a little earlier. The main issue is fine throttle control in slow corners and correcting the car’s counter steer since that’s you reacting to an unexpected physics change.

Overall 6/10, 9/10 with rice.

I

I started playing competitive soccer at 12 years old ( and I am not including the prior years which was done playing in the street ).

For the record, I am not comparing any sport at all, my initial comment was 'as a joke' that real football is played with feet.

I played soccer for 20 years.. along many others for recreational purposes ... basketball, volleyball, tennis and squash the most.

to say that Soccer is not a contact sport.. I shall send you a picture of my shins as prove; they look like lunar surface full of battle scars. Just because some clowns fake fouls does not mean that there are some pretty aggressive contact in all levels of competition and the only reason why some recreational leagues BAN sliding tackles.

go do some further research.. with all due respect on the matter.

And as former Athlete.. no matter what sport its played.. Sport is Sport!

For the record, I never said you were comparing soccer with other sports. It's just a general statement when this type of conversation comes up. It's a simple mistake people make.
By non-contact I simply mean the rules within each game limits the type and amount of contact that can be made within the rules governing each sport respectively. American football players are trained in contact deflection, angles of attack, spin techniques, jump/landing techniques and way more safety and avoidance measurements than I can cover in a forum. The photos you show and the descriptions of your own personal experiences can hopefully be described as incidental or accidental contact causing injury and not intentional.

Here is my two pennies worth on sports:

- You can't enjoy a sport if you don't understand the rules, strategies and skill required to play the game.
- If you understand all of the above and you still don't like the sport, then move on to the sport you like.
- Professional sportspeople sometimes make it look boring because they have mastered the skills and make impossible plays look so easy. Go and replicate what they do and you will have a new appreciation for that sport.
- Natural talent is an essential ingredient together with hard work to get to the top. There are not many sports where hard work only brings you to the top on a professional level.
- If you don't like American Football, but there is a Superbowl Party nearby - get out of your cave and go party! Social interaction may be healthy for you.

 👍
