3 great combos this week!
Better put some extra practice laps down with the McLaren...she's a tricky one!

Quick question: how do you guys practice is it time attack or lobby

Only reason I ask is it seems time attack iv been running cleaner, smoother, and a little faster than race night
I was practicing with time trial but then @Tecticles tuned me into the custom race with the Snail settings. Like @stelephant, practicing with other Snails when possible but defaulting to custom when I’m on my own. I’ve been doing this the past week or so and I think it is providing some benefit come Sunday Race night.

I use Arcade Time Trials. There are several tools available to you in time trials. If you are unfamiliar with the track, some of the driving markers such as cones will help you learn braking points, spot the apex and find good reference points. Plus, there is your ghost/time-delta for finding where you gain and loose time. As @Gr8_Lakes pointed out, you can drop to a harder tire to really help you find grip. Try running a few laps on the proper tire and then switching to a harder tire and see if you can catch the softer tire time.

Back when I used to race on Sundays, I'd occasionally practice in solo lobbies with tires that were one grade of lower traction than we'd actually race with on Sunday.

Thats an interesting idea Jeff. Almost like a baseball player warming up on deck with the donut - when he gets up to bat its easier to swing.

Theres pros and cons to practicing online vs offline. They've already been listed in the last few posts.

One thing I would like to mention is if you do host an online practice lobby, make sure to advertise SNAIL in the lobby title "www.snailracing.org". (yes I've said it 1000x but were getting new members weekly who might not think about it) By doing so you're helping us get the word out about our community with a chance to pull in new members. It also encourages other SNAILs to practice. If they see one of their fellow SNAILS has a prac lobby up, they may be encouraged to join rather than doing something else in the game they were originally intending to do (sport mode, livery editor, whatever)

You have a certain degree of responsibility when you set an open lobby up whether its official or unofficial practice. If you set up a lobby without the correct settings you're doing a disservice to your fellow leaguemates that join and also want to practice since you arent replicating the conditions we race on Sunday.

Its not a bad idea to simply 'save' the lobby settings if you are a participant on official Thursday practice. (assuming the settings are 100% correct which 99% of the time they are. Although time of day was off for one race last night - not a big deal) That way if you do want to setup a practice lobby on your own, all you have to do is 'load' those settings. No fumbling around on here looking for hp/kg, tire/fuel settings etc.

The important ones that can really effect 'practice' are these. The settings below is what we use for SNAIL:

Boost: none
Slip stream strength: real
Mechanical damage: light
Tire wear: 1x
Fuel consumption: 1x
Grip Red. On Wet Track / Track Edge: real

Full settings here. Bookmark it!

When you are in a lobby, hit 'view event settings' at the top, and in the upper right hand corner there is an option to 'save settings'.

Next time you go to create a lobby, you can find these settings you saved when you hit 'load settings' in the lobby creation menu.

Posting in this thread when you have a prac lobby up is encouraged. It also leaves a paper trail for earning $hells for the marketplace. (if and when these prac lobbies earn you $hells in the future @zer05ive )

See you guys tonight for the Endurance Season Finale. Should be a good one

I will host a practice room Thursday evenings same time as official Sunday evening racing. I open the practice room around 8PM central and then start between 25 to 30 minutes after. Only difference with practice no qualifying being fastest first for the first race and reverse grid for the rest.

Cool man iv joined one when we were racing monza I'll try to be able to get on at that time

As far as vr is concernded is it going to remain a 2 person lobby or a full vr experience? The vr on gts looks great from what ive seen.
I've heard nothing about opening it up to lobby racing. I love it but can get boring doing just time trials. I do enjoy a leisurely ride around the 'ring in a road car tho.

The "opponent" in VR race is not even a test so it's really just a cruise at this point.

A fun exercise to do if you are looking for practice and no one is around is to set up a custom race in arcade mode. I use all the SNAIL settings and set class to 1 make, put myself starting 20th and try to get by all the cars without incident by race end. For a more challenging aspect , throw in @Gr8_Lakes suggestion with using a lesser tire !

I’ve started doing this recently, exactly as you stated (sans the lesser tire compound) but I was not aware you can set opponents to one make. Thanks @TomMang_68 !

I expect the manufacturers race to end badly for any involved that don't stay out in front of any traffic.
Yeah if you lose the draft your done and you got to watch out for the idiots that are going to dive in there or bump you hard to move you gotta remember it's not snail
