Looks to just be a typo Jam.

So with winning the January Season of D1, I have hit a milestone in my SNAIL career. I am now tied with @socalnatv for all-time season wins (out of the 900+ people that have ever participated in SNAIL.

With Sand rejoining last month, he must've sensed his title was in jeopardy

Shout out to @msgt-sd for this amazing tool.

And just so everyone can see what us regular D1 drivers have for stats.

0 Seasons won
0 Nights won (best result was 2nd)
7 Race wins (good for 6.3%)
5 Pole positions (good for 9%)

Man. You guys have finally made an impact on the forum today. Where is this everyday?

We've still got a ways to go if we want to break the record of 302 posts in one day set back on January 9th 2014.
It was right when SNAIL went up to 7 Divisions so things were poppin off around here. There was also a league wide vote for a combo during that day which helped supplement posts.

Edit: and it looks like the picks for a buttkicker giveaway had also just started.

This also caught my eye from that day. Bowler covers Brands Hatch in that post so its still relevant 5 years later for our racing this weekend.

Points of Interest
Points of interest is meant to be a weekly series that will focus on the tracks that we will be running each week on Sunday night. I will touch on the history of track in the Gran Turismo series and some real life history about some of the tracks. I will also use this spot to refresh everyone on the track boundaries for each of the tracks in use for the week. This post could be edited if something in the boundaries is found that needs to be addressed over the course of practicing during the week.

Suzuka Circuit

NDn2e5J.png

Suzuka Circuit is a real world course located in Japan. The 18 turns present a challenging layout with quite a few opportunities for overtaking. Turn 1 is a prime spot to pull up alongside and make a pass. The esses that follow require a certain rhythym to get through quickly. Turn 8 and 9 are a high speed section that can be used to set up a move in the hairpin (11). The spoon curve (13,14) is a corner that requires an optimum line to carry speed onto the back straight. Attempting a pass in the spoon will most likely cost you and your opponent quite a bit of time but it can be done. Turn 15 can be taken flat out in some cars or with just a lift off the gas. The triangle at the end of the course is your last chance to make a pass but you must be careful as the course is quite narrow through this section.
Track boundaries are pretty straight forward at Suzuka. Wherever there is a rumble strip or curb, it serves as the edge of the track. In the absence of a rumble strip, a change in the pavement (painted or otherwise) serves as your boundary.

Deep Forest (reverse)

EilJf4T.png

Deep Forest Raceway is a track that was created by PD for the very first version of Gran Turismo and has been featured in the series ever since. It was recently discovered that the track bore a striking resemblance to an abandoned race track in the Midwestern United States. Link: The track is a mix of high speed sweeping corners and a tighter section in the middle featuring elevation changes throughout. Prime passing opportunities in the reverse configuration are not in great abundance. The best spots are the right hander at the end of the back straight, the center section just before the tunnel and the last turn before the finish line. Attempting a pass in the high speed turn one will more often than not, lead to mayhem or at the very least slowing down both cars for the high speed section that follows.
As with all other tracks, the rumble strip or curbs serve as the edge of the track when they are present. In the absence of these boundaries, a change in pavement serves as the edge of the track. Be aware of the right hander after the tunnel. You can have two tires in the track and the game’s programming will assess a penalty. The concrete areas past the rumble strips on this track are considered to be out of bounds and will result in a penalty from the stewards if you are caught driving out there. These are located in the tunnel between the corners labeled 5 and 4 and the right hander just after that tunnel.

Brands Hatch (gran prix)

ebIIVdI.png

Brands Hatch is a circuit new to the Gran Turismo series. When constructed in the 1950’s, the track was originally paved with cinder blocks. It wasn’t long before those were paved over with a tarmac surface. Some of the cinder blocks are still visible upon the exit of turn 2 and turn 4. There is a rumble strip between the tarmac surface and the cinder blocks that designates the edge of the track. Turn one is a tricky corner as the track falls out from under you as you go through the corner. Turn two is a harpin at the top of the hill and can provide a very good pass opportunity. You then head downhill to turn 3. Watch the exit as it’s pretty easy to push wide here. Turn four is key for carrying speed down the straight. Turns 5, 6, and 7 make up a big left hand circle for the most part. Turn 8 is a left hander that leads back into the natural amphitheater that is the setting for the main grandstand and the run back up a hill to turn 9 followed by the front straight.
Remember, it’s always the rumble strips that mark the edge of the track. The area beyond a rumble strip, no matter what it’s paved with, is out of bounds and driving out there is subject to having a penalty issued by the stewards. When there is no rumble strip, always keep two tires on the tarmac racing surface as any change in pavement serves as the edge of the track.

This is what longevity can get you for stats:

4 season wins
26 night wins
188 race wins (17.26%)
65 pole positions (11.88%)

It only took 1089 races over the course of 199 nights.

The next time I race will be night 200. The only other drivers that have reached that milestone are @Nicktune @racingchamp30 @TEX36 @Grandpa Money and @socalnatv
Someone might wanna check on @TEX36 .. According to the stats poor Tex hasn't raced since October 2017.
Edit : I see it now, must have changed name going to GTS. Tex36 raced last week,
Tex-36 was Oct.17

Those are fun to look at, would have never guess I've ran that many races.

Back to back weeks where we needed 2 lobbies up for practice 👍
Going forward we'll just start up 2 lobbies at 9EST.

Unfortunately back to back weeks were plagued with people stuck on the grid. I know @soundtiger95 @TomMang_68 @Nick Cannella were stuck in the lobby I hosted. Usually I dont have any issues with people stuck on the grid when I host, so I'm not sure whats going on. @Rob Brown 's friend also couldnt see my room to join either.

This might be something worth looking into for anyone that has had any issues: https://portforward.com/gran-turismo-sport/

I think it might’ve just been one of those nights where the servers were acting up. I did reset things after my first time stuck on the grid and the problem still persisted after. Nog’s rooms were fine for me though.

GT Sport is really the only game I ever have issues with (even issues on this game are rare) and judging by how many other people claim the same thing, I have to imagine that PD’s servers experience overloads quite regularly, and that’s what leads to the issues. Seems like that even if only one persons connection is only slightly wonky, it affects a whole room permanently.

I had the same problem in Sam's room last week switched to nicks and it worked just fine

I have read the first post and would like to join. I have read about snail on reddit and it was so interesting.

@Mercin
Here's your official SNAIL Welcome Post!
Thanks for your interest!
Here's what you need to know (and do) in order to join SNAIL Racing League:

We run a clean league by enforcing a strict penalty system based on the SNAIL OLR (which is a modified version of the GTP OLR). We also expect all of our drivers to know and follow The Good Racecraft Guide. Please become versed in both if you aren't already. Once that is complete, please follow the steps below to complete your entry into the league:

1. You start a conversation and add @CoachMK21, @JLBowler, @nmcp1,@zer05ive ,@Rednose58,@MajorBlixem & @SAMHAIN85 as participants.

The conversation title should be "Request To Join".

2. SNAIL Administrators will respond with specific instructions on what you need to accomplish to join the SNAIL [Spec] Racing.

3. Place the following links (URLs) in the favorites (or bookmarks) in your web browser for quick reference. Please make every effort to read and understand the following links. Over the years a great deal of time and effort has gone into creating this league and we would like nothing more than to have you but we ask that you take the time and effort to do your homework. 99.9% of any question you may have about SNAIL can be found in the posts below.
4. You drive fast and clean on Sunday 👍

Again, the original post has everything you need to know about what to expect on Sunday night and what you will need to have completed in order to be competitive. If you have any questions, please feel free to post your question on the thread. If you have a preference for car/wheel colour and racing number, please follow the instruction contained here.

During the week we run a number of different events, we encourage all SNAILs to join as many as possible.
Welcome to SNAIL

Anyone have any good recommendations on sim rigs. I like the GT Omega pro that has the monitor mount, console mount, speaker mounts and upgraded seat for $550. I don't really want to spend anymore than that. Any comparable options in the same price range?

Good news is I have plenty of room for it. I don't think I want one that has the bar from the floor straight up to the wheel where your legs are on each side as that seems like it would get in the way.

Imagine, if you will, a race series that allows it's drivers to run virtually whatever car they want. A series that allows tuning but doesn't require it. A series that allows any modification to your car. Most importantly, a series that makes it possible for every driver to compete directly with every other driver regardless of their skill level.
If that sounds interesting to you then check out SNAIL Index Racing. It's a Friday Night Event and it will take place on Feb. 22. That's one week from today. Click the link for more details.
