Remember to practice online with correct SNAIL settings. If you run these combos offline in singe player your lap times will be off because of the different physics. You can also earn $hells for posting when you have a practice lobby up here, just make sure to use the correct settings and title the lobby with www.snailracing.org

Is this really true? I know it's definitely different for time trials.
I often practice using custom races. I'll start a custom race set it to 10 or 20 mins or however long I want to practice. Set the number of cars to two. Then turn off Boost and set Grip Reduction on Wet Track/Track Edge to real (default is 'low'). And honestly, the lap times I run are the same as when I'm in an online lobby.

Maybe with all of the recent tire model updates, laptimes are now closer offline/online than they were before. To quote one of GTP's Admins/Creator of the GTPEDIA (basically he knows his stuff):

When driving any online race it's crystal clear that as a whole the game's physics are different - and you're slower as a result - compared to offline. Daily race qualifying is offline and the races are online, so...

This is exactly as it was in GT5 and GT6 too.

What causes this difference?

This is something no-one outside of PD can really answer. It's just something that has always been present in online portions of GT games.

If you'd rather practice on your own in a single player like setting, create an online lobby and set max participants to two. I do that from time to time just before Sunday night racing as I'm trying to concentrate on running solo laps and not with other traffic on track.

I have read the first post and want to rejoin please.

@Racer546324

Here's your official SNAIL Welcome Post!
Thanks for your interest!
Here's what you need to know (and do) in order to join SNAIL Racing League:

We run a clean league by enforcing a strict penalty system based on the SNAIL OLR (which is a modified version of the GTP OLR). We also expect all of our drivers to know and follow The Good Racecraft Guide. Please become versed in both if you aren't already. Once that is complete, please follow the steps below to complete your entry into the league:

1. You start a conversation and add @CoachMK21, @JLBowler, @nmcp1,@zer05ive ,@Rednose58,@MajorBlixem & @SAMHAIN85 as participants.

The conversation title should be "Request To Join".

2. SNAIL Administrators will respond with specific instructions on what you need to accomplish to join the SNAIL [Spec] Racing.

3. Place the following links (URLs) in the favorites (or bookmarks) in your web browser for quick reference. Please make every effort to read and understand the following links. Over the years a great deal of time and effort has gone into creating this league and we would like nothing more than to have you but we ask that you take the time and effort to do your homework. 99.9% of any question you may have about SNAIL can be found in the posts below.
4. You drive fast and clean on Sunday 👍

Again, the original post has everything you need to know about what to expect on Sunday night and what you will need to have completed in order to be competitive. If you have any questions, please feel free to post your question on the thread. If you have a preference for car/wheel colour and racing number, please follow the instruction contained here.

During the week we run a number of different events, we encourage all SNAILs to join as many as possible.
Welcome to SNAIL

If you go back roughly 1400 pages you can find this post which explains some of the differences between online vs. off-line modes. The information was written during the time of the PS3 but should still apply today.

I prefer to practice in arcade time trial mode and simply use one or two steps harder tires.

New wheel. Got a new desk, (desk was free). I’m finally ready for tonight. Almost 2 full days worth of work.
