SNAIL Time Trials Round 3 is in the books

April Final Standings will be updated once all pending IR's are finalized.

I had an incredible last lap battle with @Timlour tonight. We basically went a full lap around Interlagos side by side fighting for the win with no contact. It cant be done without mutual respect. Cheers Tim.

(and a tight 3rd place battle just behind us)

The last 3 laps of that race are all highlight worthy, Tim had a great pass on me around the outside of turn 4.

Question for other divisions that perhaps some people have experienced, specifically regarding race 2 qualifying from last night.

Did you notice that your tires were not up to temperature quick enough and you did not have the same grip on your flying lap as you had in the race?

I have noticed lately that the tire model really does seem to reflect cold tires and sitting on track for a few minutes can cause your tires to be significantly cooler - and the nature of the short track made it so tires weren't warm enough by the time the flying lap started.

From my perspective, I sat on track in the second qualifying group and then under steered off track in those high speed esse's (thankfully I was able to safely rejoin and continue qualifying), going off track was almost purely because of the lack of tire temp, and I noticed even on my flying lap that the grip just was not the same from my (albeit limited) practice.

Did anyone else notice this?

Yep, something I also noticed is even when they aren't blue anymore they don't seem to have the proper grip till after the start finish line. Like there's maybe a rule put into place inside the code that says they aren't warm for a full lap.

The Samba bus combo was interesting. My strategy was to try to make the guy in front of my train the winner. It was more fun than I thought it would be. I had low expectations and as such came away with liking this unusual combination. Thanks @Akzl298 for going out on a limb. (I still hope for 1 & done though).

On another note, I am very pleased for getting fast lap honors in the Focus in round 2 race 2. Why? Because I ran my 2nd Sunday without the use of ABS. I am trying to start a ABS-free following. Free yourself from the chains! I won't tell you that it's easy or that it will improve your finishes. However, it does give you the feeling that it's you and only you controlling every iota of the car. Like this post if you would ever consider leaving all the aids behind. I'm wanting to know how many are on a similar wave length.

The Samba bus was stupid.
I got squeezed onto the barrier, and lost 4-5 kph - that was my race - I watched my "pack" drive away from me and could never catch up again.

Scores for April 28 have been copied to SNAIL Data.

This was the last race night of the April 2019 season, so I make a special effort request to do the Data Input at your earliest convenience - Thanks

I agree. I think the samba on an oval would be an absolute blast. Especially with a full lobby.

See I don't understand this - Oval racing is very fun, but I would take an actual car with speed on an oval over the hippiemobile any day.
What is the point of going around in circles at 100kph, it's like watching paint dry - you're also at the mercy of whoever feels like bump drafting or not...

I believe I may be the biggest Pro drafting race guy here but the samba shouldn’t be at SSRX. Now with that said I will say. My favorite thing to do on Gran Turismo 5 was the go karts at SSRX because the drafting was so tight and 1 lap was just a blast to practice the drafting. If we did it in snail we would have to find a car that keeps a top gear without maxing AND fast enough that we could get a couple laps out of it because we need to be able to qualify

Regardless of the speed, its an equalizer. It’s fun to manipulate the draft while side by side in a pack of cars. I think since the samba punches such a large hole in the air it creates a perfect recipe for pack racing. It can be frustrating losing the pack but it’s also a great opportunity for maybe some D4 and 5 guys to mix it up with D1

I agree, as I love to banter with people before the race in voice chat anyway. ;)

So for the naysayers and/or nonbelievers, or just those who may need anecdotal proof...
This is after about 6 minutes on track (as it took me a minute to get the settings fixed)
Edit: Added the original pic of whole screen.

Some guys will argue about anything. Just get in the lobby as soon as you can, go park it in turn one and wait for the start. If you're the last guy in the room, you're going to be at the back of the line to start qualifying and sit for at least a minute. If you get caught from behind with a five second head start in one lap, you're going too slow. Pick it up.

I will say it again. All of the drivers making sure they can see one another is so much more important than having warm tires for an out lap. It's an out lap. It doesn't count for anything. If you feel the need to leave the track and jump back in to get warm tires, first of all, you're not following policy and secondly, you're overthinking the whole process. Again, IT'S AN OUT LAP. The tires are back up to temp well within a lap on the track before anything counts for anything.
Haha. Brought this up a bit ago.

I am all for this with inclusion of H-pattern shifting. (no shift glitching per our own honor) and if caught shift glitching being banned from this series.

The round that received the most elimination votes was:
Round 1 - VOLKSWAGEN SAMBA BUS TYPE 2 (T1) 1962 (CS) at Tokyo Expressway - Central Inner Loop - 12:45 Fine Weather (4 laps)
Therefore the entire combo has been dropped from next week's line-up. Since @TomMang_68 wins Prize A, he gets to choose an entirely new car and track combo to replace it.

The round that received the second most elimination votes was:
Round 2 - FORD FOCUS GR.B RALLY CAR (RH) at Autodrome Lago Maggiore - Center - 05:00 Clear (15 laps)
This means either the car or the track will be replaced for next week's line-up. Since @Timlour gets Prize B, he has the option to freeze the car or the track, or he can give that option to the Prize C winner. If he gives the freeze away, then he gets to decide what car or track replaces the part of the combo that is left unfrozen by the Prize C winner.

Prize C goes to @racingchamp30 so he gets whichever option the Prize B winner does not select.

Preliminary prize winners, please don't announce your prize selection until all incident reports have been filed and it has been confirmed that you don't have any penalties. It's also recommended that you review the SNAIL combo history and other data on our car and track history so that you can get an idea how many times we've raced each car and track. Please remember that originality is always appreciated, so picking cars and tracks that we've never raced is a plus (but not required). What's more important is that you thoroughly test any combo that you are considering before making it your official selection. For example, any car you select should not hit its rev limiter at any point during a race (even in the draft).

IMPORTANT: When posting your Prize A or Prize B selection, please list the complete in-game name of the car and/or track you are selecting. For example, if you want to choose the Integra Type R as your car selection, post "Honda Integra Type R (DC2)". If you want to select Monza for your track, post "Autodromo Nazionale Monza". This makes it much easier for the lineup to be updated accurately and helps avoid confusion. Also, please be sure to list the HP and Weight (LBS) of any car you select. For track selections, include the time of day (e.g: 09:00 Clear) or else it will be left to default.

Was trying a combo we haven't had yet. Though the bus is was not an ideal vehicle of choice, (still better than that junk 2&4 we had a few weeks ago) I saw that it had not been tried yet. Also, tried to pick a track that would work well for the vehicle, and provide close racing. Unfortunately, I did not see the effect of the walls with the inexperience of pack/draft racing that would occur. Luckily, one and done for samba. Lol, I probably could've gotten out and ran faster...

Honestly it wasn’t terrible. You really needed a drafting partner to “go anywhere”. If they left you out to dry you both lose.

Yeah, once main draft got away, race wasn't really long enough to do anything about it. @NASCARNATE91 show me that bump drafting could separate 2 people from main group, I didn't think that was possible with gt sport's physics model, but nice to see something work right in this game, lol. Good strategy

It was something different
