Good question. There seems to be some debate on whether they are identical performance wise or not. In the past SNAIL has allowed the use of identical spec'd cars but fell under different names, but I'm not sure if this is the same scenario. I'll let Bowler come up with the answer.

In the past, GT6 era, SNAIL did allow for cars of identical spec to be substituted. This was mainly to allow for different liveries to be on the track and make for grids that didn't look like the exact same car. Most of the time it was done was for race cars. With the advent of the livery editor, only the car selected will be allowed. In this case, you must run the Honda version as that is what was selected. This will be the case in GTSport moving forward.

I knew I had addressed that previously and sure enough it is here in Nov. of 2017:

In the past SNAIL has allowed race cars with identical settings to be used just so that we didn't have 12 identical cars on the track. With a full livery editor in place there really isn't a reason to allow any car other than the exact model that was chosen to be used.

And again here in April of 2018:

In past games, SNAIL has allowed different cars to be used as long as the specs were identical. This was to allow the grid to have different looking cars and make photos taken more appealing to the eye. With the advent of a livery editor, only the selected car will be allowed for Sunday night. There will be no exceptions to this policy going forward as long as we have a livery editor at our disposal.

Super Formula is quite the machine with 30 PSI boost and enormous downforce. I couldn’t imagine driving one in real life. Real sensory overload!
The Mach Forty is scary to control if it starts to oversteer. You can deal with a little but it quickly gets out of hand past the critical point.
Lots of horses to tame this Sunday fellas!

Although we're a beginner-friendly league, we expect all drivers to follow GTP OLR Rules and pursue good racecraft at all times. If you're not sure what racecraft is, watch this video for an explanation. We run a clean league by enforcing a strict penalty system based on the SNAIL OLR (which is a modified version of the GTP OLR). We also expect all of our drivers to know and follow The Good Racecraft Guide. Please become versed in both if you aren't already. Once that is complete, please follow the steps below to complete your entry into the league:

The conversation title should be "Request To Join".

2. SNAIL Administrators will respond with specific instructions on what you need to accomplish to join the SNAIL [Spec] Racing.
