Wow, I didn't even realize it's been a year, that's crazy! Congrats to everyone who's stuck with SNAIL for so long, especially the guys who work behind the scenes to make this possible. Hopefully we have anothergreat year ahead of us!

I know man, I just went back and found my first post. I had to keep hitting back, and back, and back, I was surprised by how far back my post was. I didn't even think I was close to 1 year yet. No worries though, I plan on giving it the long haul. If there is a gran turismo to be played, it will be done so with SNAIL.

I've read a lot of valid arguments against penalties being on during races, but no one has addressed what I believe to be the biggest concern: How would we police qualifying? With our current system, people are all by themselves, and on some/most tracks, it wouldn't be hard to gain a few tenths and move up 5 or more spots -- maybe even accidentally. I'd like to think that wouldn't happen, but we wouldn't even know if it did. Like I said, I'd love to be able to race La Sarthe, but I don't think it's a good idea.

Now, to stir the pot regarding the entrance to the oval at Indy Road: :mischievous:

If we're to take our cue from what Grand Am does (and who am I to argue with Pruett? :)), the line is just scenery.

On the other hand, if we're trying to be consistent, we should probably rule the same way we do regarding the line to the right leading up to the chicane at Trial Mountain, or the line on the left at the end of the Mulsanne (sp?) straight at La Sarthe. In both cases, we treat the asphalt as the track limit, not the white line.

Then again, we treat the white lines at Deep Forest another way altogether. So I'm just going to throw my hands in the air and blame PD for inconsistent penalties that put us in the situation of having to define this all ourselves. :yuck:

2Armedmen, where were you last night? HUH? :)

Studying for my physiology midterm I had today

Also why is everyone talking about grand am rules? Is that really relevant to snail, and if so, how do they constitute the boundaries on special stage route 5 and cape ring?

We can't police qualifying now, either, and many probably know where you can gain a few tenths or so by cutting a corner that GT5 will allow you to do (whether they'll admit it or not.)

If someone manages a qualifying time that an honest alien can't hope to achieve, he's cheating. It's not that hard to figure it out.

That's a good point. When I think of Monza, where you can cut at least part of each of the 3 chicanes even with penalties on, I'm even more convinced. There's still a little voice in the back of my head... But that voice is a bit of a misanthrope, so maybe I shouldn't be listening to him in the first place :)

Having suffered through watching too many replays (with more to come) of folks not following the racing lines, noticing that the guys who follow the line move around 114 mph, but the guys who 'oops' outside it go 120-126, I'd call that an advantage.

Sure is a good thing that doesn't happen in every division. One of them is apparently immune to that, every single one of them. Wow!

I see now, that was your request to join, your first actual race was March 24, 2012, you finished 3rd behind Tez and Lookbeer :)

The first race is what I've been using as official start dates for S.N.A.I.L.s

And to add to the track boundary discussion, I think it was Hill that said (and I'm paraphrasing) "you can take the right hander leading onto the Oval flat if you hit the turn in point perfectly." I think that applies to almost any corner, if I miss the turn in I usually have to make an adjustment, whether it's lift off the throttle or tap the brake.

All removing the boundary, in this instance, will do is remove how precise you have to be with turn in.

To me the boundary of the track is the boundary. If you go outside it, you will be penalized. Whether it be by the Stewards, GT5's penalty system or Trial Mountain scraping speed and paint off your car.

What I'm saying about that though is you can take it on line the same speed as off line. It's just a very narrow window to pull it off.

I was wondering if I was the only one that knew that...

Let me be more blunt: if someone, god knows in a less than perfect division, took a corner higher than the window allowed, no doubt from a driver error, and benefitted from any internal oversight...

Would they repeat the behavior or stop the behavior if they were not caught. Hill, you see Steward replays as well. Believe that we hope all would do right, and know that not ALL will.

I will lay off this one. I can see my reaction is as much to the "nobody here would ever..." as anything else. Likely more to that than the matter at hand, I guess. Hubris has always hit me wrong.

But if you change the rules then the person who does it on accident and the person who does it on purpose get the same advantage and we don't have to watch a million replays to see if someone who made a mistake one lap should be penalized.💡 My point is that that particular boundary is silly and doesn't need to be there. Most of the ones we have make sense but that one always seemed silly to me. That of course is my opinion but it seems I'm not the only one that thinks that including real world drivers that race there who ignore that line completely.

Rules, penalties, are silly.

Gotcha, why bother?

Nope not what I said. That particular one I don't like. If it stays as a rule I will follow it as I always have. It's like the penalties, don't like them but if they stay I have to learn to deal with them.

[Shut up, Better Judgment!]

Ah, then you seem to have forgotten this.

I raced in D2 and couldn't see some of the people on the track. Afterward, I gave up all points for the night after finding out that I was driving into people.

I tried to race the next week but had more compatibility issues with other drivers so I jumped out during the first race.

By week three I had an improved internet connection and got it all sorted out, but by then I had been relegated to the "old" D3…and came in third behind LookBeer (who quit after that night as he didn't use ABS and felt like he was making things difficult for other drivers) and tez who raced like a champ in the NSX at Cape Ring.

How far we've come…

Lookbeer was amazing without ABS, I don't think he bumped anyone at all....sublime driving 👍

That was my first Sunday (having been in a few Wednesday sessions prior) and I recall holding my breath going around the loop in that NSX since I was on the DS3 back then...directional buttons, not the stick since I didn't (still don't actually) like using that.

That was my first week with the wheel. I was really glad to have it. You can see how twitchy I was with the directional buttons at HSR.

I did forget about that! You're getting as good as zer0 at finding old posts

I guess what I should have said was, I've been using the first recorded points to determine our S.N.A.I.L. anniversaries.

Fixed it.

I've been PM'ing back and forth all night, so I won't be posting the preliminary results and elimination votes tonight. I'll try to get them posted during lunch tomorrow. In fact, this will probably be the norm from now on.. I need to get me sleep so that I'm not such a zombie on Monday mornings. :dunce:

Someone please clarify when the preliminary results will be posted. That way potential prize winners might be able to start thinking about new combos.
If this has already been discussed please clarify anyway because I must have missed the post.

I don't think you missed it. zer0 usually posts at lunch time Monday, but I fear his being sick has gotten the best of him.

I'll try to get a hold of him and let you know,

Hey all,

I just wanted to bring to your attention the latest recipients of the S.N.A.I.L. One Year Gold Star.

fzappa / tcrash15
AJKVail / AJK-VAIL
irmopars / Mighty_mopar

Congratulations 👍 and Thank You!

And to recognize our current S.N.A.I.L. One Year Gold Star holders:

racefan78 / racefan78
JLBowler / jlbowler
kcheeb / kcheeb
AG07WRXTR / AG07WRXTR
zer05ive / zer05ive
Rallywagon / rallywgn81
cmbeal317 / cmbeal317

I think this is important to celebrate, as it highlites the good things we all do in S.N.A.I.L. Any of you familiar with setting up a race series know how often membership is turned over. S.N.A.I.L. has 10 people that have currently been racing together for over a year :D

Watch for more upcoming Gold Star ceremonies 👍

kcheeb

Thanks alot:)! It's been a awesome year of racing with S.N.A.I.L and a HUGE shout out for zer05ive and kcheeb for putting this together for all of us.

I found this league by fluke because me and my lil buddy AJKVail were looking for another kind of racing instead of 'smash-up derby' that we were playing at the time. I told Vail about it and the more we read, the more we liked it.:)

We raced our first races on March 12, 2012 and we were hooked and haven't looked back. This league has changed alot since then, from 2 divisions now 5:eek:. It says quite a bit about the founders. Making the S.N.A.I.L league everyones league not just there own, turned this into a place to be, no matter what day of the week and especially on Sunday. 👍👍

I've met alot of good people here through the year and I'm thankful for that.:)

Here's to another great year of racing:cheers:

:gtpflag: You would think I would have more posts after a year! Jez!

Let the man rest. I wasn't sure if anything had changed regarding posting the winners, waiting for the stewards reports to announce the go ahead, etc.

I thought there was some talk of deducting penalty points from the monthly championship totals and announcing the winners immediately. Thus allowing a more timely choosing of new combinatons.

Sorry guys, I'm living in a haze right now. I'll start on the results post now and them I'm hitting the sack (again).

Btw, congrats to the newest members of the +1 club!!

Oh and nice pics, Wolfsatz! 👍

That just happened once due to other delays. I suspect we want to keep that to a minimum.

After all, it's not exactly beneficial to clean racing to allow people to drive dirty to win a weekly prize.

The round that received the most elimination votes was:
ROUND 2 - Art Morrison Corvette'60 @Road Course - Indy

Therefore the entire combo has been dropped from next week's line-up. Since GTP_Worst_Driver wins Prize A, he gets to choose an entirely new car and track combo to replace it.

The round that received the second most votes was:
ROUND 3 - Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 (C6) RM '09 @Fuji Speedway F

This means either the car or the track will be replaced for next week's line-up. Since tcrash15 gets Prize B, he gets to decide which part of the combo is replaced and what replaces it.

Price C goes to VAG_star so he gets any gift car ticket listed here.
