I bought a couple DLC on my old account, and thought I was good to go on just gifting the cars to my newer account. Nope, can't do that. So, if need be, and I've actually been meaning to anyway, I will/plan on buying them again for the cars and tracks. So, if a poll was to take place...... No, i currently do not have dlc cars, but will gladly purchase if need be. Heck, if I don't get all ADHD on my GT5 plans for evening, I may actually buy it tonight.

You shouldn't have to repurchase the DLC. There is a free download in the store for the family plan (or something like that). It allows multiple accounts on the same PS3 to use the DLC that you have purchased on one account. This does not work for paint or gear. It does work for cars and tracks.

As for sides forming, i feel there are yes, alot against me in fact. Why? Maybe the suggestions i make, or what i say on the forums, or how i drive, i dont know. I do know i try to be nice, not flame anyone or call anyone out. But then again, what do i know.



Hey Zero, just asking, but does this mean we have the option to upgrade to a RM version of a car yet still maintain the Tuning Prohibited?

Being first will put a target on your back, and probably your front!
And yes, Im assuming that would be what he was looking for. Only, Im going to say, that its probably not an option. since the rm would rock the street going version.
 
You can include an RM car and still make it tuning prohibited. Just set everything to default settings and it will let you in the race
 
If you're on the same PS3 you should be able to use most DLC on multiple accounts.

I'm not certain about the first DLC, though. As that was made one-user then changed (I think)

I bought it twice. sigh

This only works if you download the family plan thingie from the PSN Store - it's a free download. You will need to treat it like any other DLC item in GT5, you must install it before it works for your accounts. It's easy.

After some more thinking and discussion with Jellis @ work today, we made the following conclusion: If this series is for ALL skill levels as advertised, and now that there are three divisions, what would be the objection to allowing the D3 drivers to use some aids (like driving line, TCS, and maybe even skid recovery force) so that they can actually learn in small bites while remaining competitive?

In my opinion, if one should require use of the driving line to navigate a track, they are not likely to be in contention for the podium anyway, but may at least keep themselves from being constantly saddled with penalties. And, as an entry level competition, it would seem fair. Especially with several of the newer driver voicing their concerns about the difficulty they've had "finding the line".

Also, it was stated in the only response I got that TCS "only makes you slower". If that is the case, why could it not be allowed in the lower two divisions?

I'm just asking. It seems logical to me (I know I'm setting myself up here) to have some gradient in the assists to coincide with the gradient in skill level between the divisions...

The only restrictions on cars that can be selected for Prize A and Prize B are:

1. Must be less than $1,000,000 (so that any car we use can be gifted to any members who don't have enough credits)
2. Must be either available in the New Car Dealership or recently listed in the Online Dealership (to ensure availability all the way through the next Sunday league night)
3. Must not be from DLC

Since RM cars are originally purchased through the New Car Dealership, selecting them with Prize A or Prize B is 100% okay. However, because RM cars are not listed in the Dealership, there is no "Dealership PP" for the purposes of determining which tire will be paired up with it. Therefore, the PP we will use for that purpose is the PP of the car immediately after it has been RM'd. In other words, before any break-in or oil change.

I'm for allowing driving line and TCS in D3 (both of which I'll opt out of). I'm not for SRF since it is artificial.

Last week my Turtle Beach headset completely died and I had to perform delicate surgery on it to give it life again. It was touch and go for a while there, but it's healthy again, for now. There were comments from some people that they would be willing to chip in to replace my headset, if I have a PayPal account, for all the time I have put into making time for tutoring. I'm sure these comments were made for personal reasons as well as purely selfishness - after all I wouldn't be able to offer tutoring if my headset died again LOL :lol:

At the time I didn't know what information is needed for PayPal, but I located the needed info, and I'm good to go now. So, if the offers made are still available & on the table, please send me a PM & I'll give you the needed information.

There are lots of them. The one that came up in conversation is from an Amateur B-Spec race.

Okay, but if you got a prize car and then deleted it because you didn't want it, would it be possible for you to get another one by winning that particular race again? It was my understanding that you could only win prize cars once. I'm all for allowing as many cars as possible, I just want to avoid any potential difficulty in obtaining the cars needed to race with us.

I was looking for input from others before 'chiming-in' on this topic.

ABS:
I personally don't know the official reason about why it's used, but I can tell you that have my ABS set to "1" for all my cars, regardless. My reasoning is simple; the game does a decent job and mimicking the results wheel lockup, but the feedback it gives the player via the controller is a joke, and even a bigger joke if you are using the wheel. When I was racing, I could tell you which wheel(s) locked-up just by the input from the car. GT5 doesn't bother to give the player any feedback or input about the lock at all, it's just a lock up of all 4 wheels, which is complete B.S.! A car give you input via the steering wheel, vibrations in the chassis (as felt through driver's seat) as well as the pedals. GT5 give the player no information to work with at all. If the GT5 were to offer the player feedback via the wheel and pedals, that would be great, I would turn off ABS in a heartbeat. Instead, GT5 offers the player absolutely nothing regarding this matter. Until GT5 offers up this much needed information, then my ABS will be set to "1" for all my cars - it's all I need to get the braking done.

TCS:
I personally run without the TCS for all my cars, and instead I rely on my ability to control the car with throttle control. If the TCS is turned off, GT5 does offer the player some information about which wheel(s) has 'broke traction' (depending in the powertrain of the vehicle in question). This is a far cry from the way GT5 addresses wheel lockup (as addressed above) Given that GT5 does give the player information, I'm willing to turn off my TCS for every car I own in the GT5 game - but make no mistake, GT5 does give the player the information needed to make an adjustment, if needed or desired. What the player does with that information is up to the player. (unlike with the ABS)

As for your comment about the different Divisions using different aids, that is a topic for Zero to address. However, I did notice that you implied that allowing the aids would allow drivers to actually learn in small bites while remaining competitive? What exactly would they be learning, I wonder? As a former racing/driving instructor, we forced students to turn off all computer assistance because it undermines our efforts to teach the correct techniques to the students. A student would do something stupid and the computer would correct their driving and make the turn look and feel flawless, but the computer did the work, not the student. I had a student burnout the computer assistance controls at a track because he continually failed listen to what I was telling him, and he just wanted to enjoy his brand new BWM M5. Okay fine, 4 laps later the car is "chirping" & "dinging" inside the cabin, (the assistance computer failed) the driver continued to drive the car like he had been (completely wrong) and drove off the track, and rolled the car! What did this guy with the computer doing all the work for him? Not a Damn thing! the computer did all the work, a fact I'm sure he's well aware of now. If drivers in the lower divisions are allowed to use driving aids, they will not learn to drive at all, so I fail to understand your argument. However, I can see letting the lower divisions have more driving aids available, but that's not my call to make.

Driving line during the races:
There is nothing to stop a driver from practicing with the driving line on "to help find their way around a track". It doesn't take much to learn a track, in my opinion. If drivers in Div 3 are continually driving off track, then perhaps they should attend the tutoring sessions that mopar & I have been offering. it doesn't take time to give pointers that will help drivers find their way around a track. Little things like 'reference points' can make a huge difference. These are all things that a SNAIL driver can to do help their efforts.

In short (I know this has gotten quite long) I don't have an problem with lower divisions having different aids allowed. While I do think that this is going to promote closer racing, it will also promote drivers to stay in a certain division rather than learn new skills. I new of a couple of drivers (I'm not going to name names) that are able to run with division 1 and hold their own, but they would much rather be in division 2 because they are scared to step up, step out of their comfort zone, because they want the "Big W" or whatever. I hope that IF driving aids are allowed int he lower divisions, then I hope the behavior I just described above will not be norm.

Yeah, there does seem to be a limit that you can't win a car more than once. If you deleted it... well... I'm sorry, but that wasn't very bright.

If you irrecoverably modified it though, then yes, there is a slight problem. But, there are options:

1) You can win it on a second account. Some are easy enough to win with new accounts, some require a high A-Spec or B-Spec level to even enter the event. The high-level ones might be a problem.
2) Someone else can win it on a second account and send it. I don't mind helping out that way in some cases.
3) Some people freely dupe cars. I'm sure they'll be helpful in cases like this.
4) Also, there are people, like me, that wouldn't mind participating with a car from the UCD. It will have some miles on it and be down a bit on power, but it shouldn't be too off.

There are conversations about whether we should even allow ABS. And I just had this thought, what if we didn't allow ABS for cars that don't have them in real life, such as the Caterham Seven. I think that would be a fun race on the right course.

I have started another account that will have all prize cars still in ticket form with 0 miles. I have most of the lower events done on both sides. If I have the ticket on that account, I would be wiling to supply a copy to distribute throughout the league.

As for the aids, specifically ABS, the game does a really terrible job of letting you know when you are about to lock up the brakes (when I say terrible, I mean non-existant). That is the only reason I run ABS at 1. The TC is a whatever to me, I don't use it becasue it cuts engine power when it engages. I could care less if anyone wants to use the driving line. I can't see it so it doesn't bother me. It doesn't show you the best line anyways.

Skid Recovery Force is the only one that I would protest to anyone using. It's like the easy button for the game. The license tests are a joke compared to previous GT games becasue of this feature being locked on for so many of them.
 
I agree with everything that Sharkie wrote (except being okay with allowing divisions different aids). In fact I'm glad that she wrote it, as I never would have been able to put it so well.

If driving aids were allowed in the lower divisions I would want to get out of it, because ABS is the only aid that I will use. Some of the other aids, SRF in particular, would be likely to ruin the levelness of the playing field; within or across division lines.

It's been asked before why each division runs the same car/track combo, and the answer to that is the same as the answer to why they have the same other settings. Moving from one division to another should not force you to learn new rules or new settings. The reason for the divisions is to separate players by skill and skill only.

Imagine that you use all aids. If you move up into Division 2 and aids are as they are now, would you feel that you had any chance? Bouncing constantly back and forth between two divisions is not what anyone wants to see or do.


Regarding ABS, specifically: those who use a controller know that trying to brake a car without ABS while using the buttons is a ridiculous prospect, particularly when tire wear is on. Driving a car without TCS is reasonably accomplished.
 
On the ABS and tcs issues if I may. Good luck racing without ABS on a controller. In the heat of a battle, or well, really most of he time, te brake and gas might as well be on and off. The button sensitivity in Tue game sucks. There is maybe a half of a millimeter of modulation. Its almost impossible not to lock up Tue tires using a ds3, unless all you see is 1s and 0s. A wheel I feel is slightly better, and I was drifting for a little while without ABS on. But I quickly nixed that as well because it really just doesn't feel right, and like devious said, there is no feed back in the peddle, no refference as to how close your tires are from losing grip, nothing in the way of accurately guaging how the brakes are working. ABS is to me a forced necessity to compinsate for the games lack of brake feedback.
TCS on the other hand is there to compinsate for the driver. Even without being able to see the tire wear on you hud, you still have all sorts of feedback on your steering. Visual and audio ques. A wheel has force feedback, all sorts of stuff. I really only use the tire wear indicators when tuning my LSD or to know when to pit. Granted, I do run mid pack in d1, and could compete at the top. But even at the lower levels, I don't see the point to tcs , all it does is what you should be taking the time to learn. And to back up devious's point, what do you learn having it on? And when/if you move up in the ranks and now are forced to turn of off, your going to have to start learning everything all over again. I do mean everything too, because there are techniques you will not know or even think of because the tcs took care of it all for you. Proper throttle control, smooth clean steering inputs, neutral steering, the list goes on. These are things you need to learn from the start. If you don't, and you let the computer do it for you, then your just setting ypuself up for failure once you start moving up the ranks and have to drop tcs.

I know I get the Prize C, but I have all the cars in the game, and $20,000,000 Cr., plus my B-spec drivers are still earning money. So, I'm good on cars. If I need to pick a car for my prize, I would rather give my prize away to another driver in the SNAIL group. I'd like to give it to Handlebar-Man. I picked him only because I had decided that if I won Prize, I would give it to the driver who finished at the bottom of Division 3. The gifted Prize is a consolation prize.

Now, before anyone starts arguing about I called out Handlebar-Man, the results of the Sunday's races are posted in the forums and therefore public knowledge so it's not a secret - so I don't want to hear any crap about it. Thank you.

But calling out - just to be clear, is 'calling out' like "hey, Handlebar, come have a beer!" :) or is it "Get out in the street and skin that hogleg, ya varmint!" :nervous: Just so I know what to expect...

I've got all but 3 cars, and sadly none are the main dealership ones. All I have left to get are: a hoopty that's too expensive (Lister, 2mill), the Castrol TOM's Supra ('01), and the Jaguar XFR '10. If one of those two is somehow available, I'd like the Castrol TOM's SUPRA ('01).

If not, what do y'all suggest? I'm guessing that an unmodified RM car is prob a good idea.... suggestions? Taking son to practice, I'll decide once I hear if I can get the Supra or Jag.
