Just would like to say what a great night of racing in D2 last night. I had such a good time with everyone and I thank you all. Being a S.N.A.I.L is an honor,with a well organized leauge and rules to follow. Unlike the other leauge I was in where rules didn't matter.
Putting that aside, a few shout outs!
First, Maddy thanks again for taking the time to show me some tips on racing. It paid off!👍
Second,VAIL congrats for first place,you kicked butt!:):)

Actually, C&M doesn't start until the 2nd hour of Monday Mayhem so he'll be fine if he joins in the next 10-15 minutes.

An observation by a new guy, if you will...

This series is designed to allow drivers with elevated skill levels to rise to the top. Thus, the reason for prohibiting modifications, tuning, and driver assists.

That being said, for reasons unknown to me, ABS is allowed. I would assume this is because a car cannot be steered while the front tires are skidding, and the game makes it "too difficult" to keep them from locking up with the controls at our disposal. The standard controller configuration, while it does respond to varying amounts of pressure, leaves an extremely narrow window for modulating brake application. The exception being players making use of the pedals with their wheel setup.

While I follow that logic, it doesn't make sense that TCS is not also allowed, as the same narrow window applies to throttle application.

It is for this reason I'd like to, A: Request why the rules are this way, or, B: Request that TCS also be allowed.

As it currently stands, wheel users appear to have a significant advantage in being able to finely control throttle application, thereby reducing tire spin and the associated loss of acceleration, stability, and tire life. And this has not been more noticeable than I suspect it will be with the Corvette @ Trial Mountain Reverse.

Upon review of this replay, I can see where you're coming from, and I do apologize to badger for that incidental contact. However, I certainly wasn't attempting a "pit maneuver" there. At the time it looked to me like badger came across my nose, otherwise I would have pulled over to give him the position back like last week at Autumn Ring. I think that was just a product of the close racing that was going on, but I am sorry if I took undue advantage of the situation.

I appreciate the apology, and completely agree that there was no intention involved. I owe you an apology for the first turn incident that may have caused the whole thing anyways. I missed my braking point and broke WAY too early so the driver behind me had nowhere to go, he hit me causing me to hit you and push you wide. I didn't realize we had made contact there until I watched the replay.

Also, a big thanks to mopar and devious for the help over the past several weeks. I appreciate that you're willing to give up your time so readily.

I don't care. I've tested it a few times, and even a poor driver like me is faster with TCS off. If you allow it, I won't use it.

I'd rather keep ABS, but I've driven without, and I guess I'll manage.

As to an advantage a wheel user has with throttle control, they are at a disadvantage with the wheel itself. Yes, you do get a much more fine control, but when you get oversteer and are about to lose control, it is easier to recover with the DS3. Drifting in this game is easier with the DS3 because you can go from lock to lock so quickly.

Good racing last night everyone!

So it seems i have been picking a more technical track each week, this is because i want everyone to become better racers. If you stick to the same old (as some call it) childish, boring, lame, cars/tracks, no one gets any better. HSR, Daytona, INDY, Fuji, for example are mostly drafting tracks, who ever come out of the last corner in 2ND, will draft past the leader to take the win. The leader will ALWAYS lose. At this point it isnt a race at all, just a waiting/sandbagging to NOT be in the lead at all. Does this provide the "Close" racing that some people like, yes it does. 4-5 drivers all crossing the finish line with-in a second of each other, is close yes. But if they all sandbagged to not be the leader, instead one guy got lucky to draft faster then the other's and won, doesnt improve your driving skill IMO.
Now, if you and another driver are swapping spots, fighting for position and its a heated battle the whole race, and it comes down to the final corner, then so be it, It was driver skill.
You can call it what ever you like, racing strategy, or the plethora of other names, if you so into winning you have to result to this, then thats sad. Your not here to have fun, you just want your name at the top :(

That was just a rant, as to why i pick the tracks i do, to avoid things like that, to promote honest, clean, racing. Im not pointing fingers or calling anyone out by the way :)

Since you chose to single out every track I have selected, I take this post the same way I would take someone saying to me, "No offense, but I think you're an idiot." Of course I'm going to take a little offense to a comment like that.


A little bit about my racing background. I have grown up in a family that runs on dirt ovals throughout the western U.S.A. I have done 90% of my real racing on dirt ovals and find that it provides some of the best racing in the world.(my opinion) I like my racing simple and close. The tracks I have chosen reflect this and when I get to choose again, my choices will reflect my background in racing. I have run some asphalt here and there including some track days at Laguna Seca and what used to be Sears Point. These days were fun, but nothing compares to 36 cars on a half mile paved oval or 22 cars on a 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, or 5/8 mile dirt oval.

I play GT for fun. Close racing is what is fun for me. If the track allows more people to run close then I'm all for it. When I see a combo that is going to require a ton of practice, that's just not what I'm looking for and I can find other things to do that are much more fun. Remember, I said I play GT for fun and when it becomes work I don't believe in putting in a ton of work if I'm not getting paid at least a little. When the combination is fun, I will put the time in and practice during the week. I like the vette so much that I will probably put some time in this week and be a little more competitive than I will ever be with the S2000 (that is one of the cars I have taken around Laguna and Sears and the game doesn't represent it very well). I don't think of myself as a GT diehard, but I do have some natural ability that allows me to run well at times on tracks and with cars that I enjoy.

I don't begrudge any of your picks and I would hope that you, or anyone else wouldn't begrudge any of my past picks or future picks.

I shouldn't post this, because I might create some sort of expectation that I may have time to do this again, but...

D3 Results from this past Sunday.

The format is just a prototype that I offered to Zero. It is subject to change. The cells with a gray background are computed. They are shaded just to remind the user not to type in those cells. The shading doesn't mean anything.

The results themselves are subject to change. They are preliminary. It is possible that I've made a mistake or my math is wrong. It is also possible that there are pending reviews which will affect the results.

I'm with you. I've been following this Logic with my car selections as well. I would prefer drivers get a quick feel for the car rather than having them spend 6 minutes monitoring their throttle inputs while learning the line. Mark my words, the first time someone puts us in the F40 ON Monaco...I'm sitting out. I fear we may start taking this GAME as if it were real. As if the outcomes were to bear something important rather than just entertainment value.

Surely you won't set out a little Suzuki Cervo or Swift in Monaco. That would be loads of fun. Maybe Cappuccinos. Maybe even RM (which can still enter Tuning Prohibited, as long as you don't adjust any of the settings). That would be loads and loads of fun.

More fun than you could fit in a Suzuki, that's for sure.
 
A couple of these posts need a like button. Like Bowlers and Diabolics last posts. I agree with you guys, I'm not here to win, I'm here to race and enjoy myself. I'm not retired, I'm not a youngin, I have school, a life, a soon to be wife and a child, a "workshop" and a bunch of car and home projects. I dont get to sit here and play this game all day. I get the whole "only way to improve is to do something harder" bit. Just until a couple of years ago I used to fight MMA while in the Army, and from that I learned a lot on what it takes to improve. I got good enough that I started training my Battalion (hundreds of soldiers). I say this so you have an idea that I know exactly what it takes to teach and to become better. If your dont train with someone better, you wont get better. But, and when you get good, this is a point people (not pointing, you is just a filler here) seem to forget, but when you get good, you forget how frustrating, demoralizing and upsetting it can be to compete against someone that out classes you by a large margin. This more than anything, I think, is what gets people to quit something after just a couple of try's. A) they expected things to go easier because for some reason, a lot of people believe that they should just be a natural. B) people think after a very short time, there should be a huge improvement in ones skills. Probably because they were a natural. This can dishearten someone and make them move on rather quickly.
This rant is taking me to long to finish and I think I've lost track of my point.
Anyway, I dont think that car/track selection is really as important in the fun meter as others think. the fun is in the race, not the selection. And to me, racing in a pack is far more entertaining then being alone up front trying to beat my best lap. I rally race for that.
 
While I do agree about the "casual" (and I admitted earlier I'm much less talented and much more casual than others), I don't want the hardcore uber-elite drivers to leave. I like the divisions because they get to race each other and I get to hang with people that I sometimes can keep up with. And having them around helps push the rest of us and gives us chances to learn.

But yes, combos like the NSX at Cape Ring and the Z06 at anything with a corner will likely get voted down after a single week. I hope no one is offended by them being proposed or them being voted down. It is a little system of checks and balances.

And I agree with Bowler, Diabolic and Rally's posts. I find it infinitely more enjoyable to race in a pack on a simple no brainer track, than racing alone and nailing Eau Rouge.

Do I want to get better, you bet. Would I trade it for close door to door racing, yes.

After all, we're playing a game. A game is supposed to give you enjoyment. When it ceases to be fun ...
 
I cant speak for everyone on this, but each person will have "fun" at a different car/track selection. Not everyone will mind you, and if they dont, well there's a vote system in place for that. I dreaded racing at (not picking on you Bowler), HSR in the Sky Window, i just didnt like it at all. And as some pointed out, the D1 group mainly picked that combo to go, while the other group picked another track. This GAME is just that, a GAME. I dont know if anyone is taking it like Real life, there's things we all do in this GAME, that you wouldnt do in Real Life. If you did, you'd junk a trans in a heartbeat, and that would be that, Game over.

Would the Prius at Daytona Speedway be more "Fun" to you guys? Awesome close door-to-door racing? I dont think thats fun, even tho your door to door.
Every person has his/her own option tho.
Im here for the fun racing with the people who are here, plain and simple.

I agree completely. Hopefully I didn't offend you when I was "complaining" about the NSX/Cape Ring selection on Sunday. It wasn't so much complaining to you as it was complaining about me not practicing and therefore doing awful. You're selections are challenging, which is good:tup:
 
Ok, I'll admit the Sky Window at HSR was a poor selection. I had a flashback to the days of Prologue when I had some great races with that combo. I forgot in my flashback that we had the cars maxed out performance wise. I bet ZR1's at HSR could be a load of fun though.

Thats's all Mopar was trying to point out. The High Speed Ring needs High Speed to be fun and competitive.

Round 1 stays the same. Round 2 is now the Z06 at Trial Mountain Reverse. Round three will get the car or track changed.
 
Any word on what is changing about Round 1?

Assuming you meant Round 3, I'm trying to track down ADR_BRONCO to see what his plans are. He's not active on this thread so I sent him a PSN message last night. I'm trying to get him to post his decision on the thread so hopefully he'll do that soon.

True, but the odds of those cars getting picked which provide close exiting racing is slim. That's the reality.

The Prius at Daytona...a valid point if we're in middle school speech and debate. Its argumentative, yet hugely predictable and slanted towards a non point. What motive could possibly exist for mentioning something so completely ridiculous?

To clarify my position on your post; I didn't care for it. It APPEARS to garner a particular response on a forum striving for openness, honesty but also understanding. There are sides forming and if we can't work together I fear we may fall apart. This is a good group and were it gone, I doubt another as active and full of good people group ifs out there. Make sense?
