Hiya SNAILS,

Just wanting to inform everyone that my presence in the league may be minimal (perhaps nonexistent) for the next while. I am starting my clinical internship for my Master's and have anticipate having big days on Mondays. I hope to be able to stay on the drivers list during this time but please do not expect consistent showings from my end - please prioritize others if the lobbies begin to fill again!

Also, I've taken the liberty to join a team recently and will be looking to hone my skills in some more competitive events. That AMG Championship seriously spurred a competitive nature in me and I want to start learning how to drive the GR3s from the aliens. You know, the try-hardy-sweaty stuff that @Worst_Driver loves to participate in. So, on top of the internship, I will be prioritizing my commitment to some of the team events over this league to see if it's a good fit for me.

2024 was a big growth period in my virtual driving skill and I have you lot to thank for a lot of it :). Looking forward to sharing to track again soon!
I wish you success for your internship and your master's degree ! It's a big commitment and probably a whole lot of work, excellent choice to prioritize that over the league.

You'll always be welcome whenever you have time, it's been great to see you improve so much as a driver during the last year in pure pace but also in racecraft. You are now a force to reckon with and you keep getting better by the week looking at your weekly time trials.

...and you know how I love the ''try-hardy-sweaty'' stuff ;) I wish you success on the more competitive side of GT.

@Akzl298 Don't be sorry, life happens. Your work in the league is essential and much appreciated and I'm probably not the only one that looks forward to your year end review in stats if you have time of course.

@Dragonwhisky I'll take care of hosting the practice lobby. Stay safe.

D1 thread for the january 2025 season has been created.

@Dragonwhisky - sorry to be late on my backup car.

I put some decent thought to my Prize A selection but I won’t invest that amount of time in my backup car selection.

So….
It’ll be the 2017 Alpine A110.
It`s 248 HP make it that it will be on CS Tires - barely
(Why not?)
Did you happen to get a lap time with this car? We may have to switch it in tonight.

Are we switching to the Alpine? Just noticed the Silvia has been replaced in the ucd.
Yes. Thanks to PD & Sony for forcing this kind of last minute decision. Without input or guidance from others on the BoD, I'm making the call.

Here are the updated combos for the night.

Hosts, please make the necessary adjustments to your room settings.

I'll have to redo the score sheets now.

Super disappointed if we’re not racing the Sylvia!
one would assume that 99% of the drivers at least had a couple laps on each combo, prior to race night! We shouldn’t be having to make these decisions on race night.
I say there should be a rule that if nobody speaks up prior Friday 11pm we stick with the first choice. Just my two and a half cents…(1 cent USD) lol

And now nobody gets practice on combo 2

Agreed with @DublDee on this and I’m pretty bummed out.

And I certainly respect the call you made @Dragonwhisky. The rule is clearly stated and you made your call by following the rule.

But there’s a whole whack of cars that we don’t tend to use because of this rule.

I don’t get to pick combos very often but I actually took the time to comb through Snail data and found a car that hasn’t been used since GT7 came out. And the feedback in practice lobbies during the week has been very positive.

But there’s a whole whack of cars that we don’t tend to use because of this rule.
By the information I'm able to pull from the data SNAIL has, that "whole whack" of cars amounts to 62, UCD exclusive. 13.5% of the total cars SNAIL currently allows. With the LCD allowed cars bringing the total, limited use cars, to a whopping 23.26% of all allowed cars. There are 353 cars currently on the allowed roster that aren't limited use.

D2 Race Recap

After 2 weeks off, I was happy to be back in the lobby talking with y'all, getting ready for the night's high-octane action. We began with 10 drivers and would have 11 at the halfway point.

Combo 1 was almost as much fun with the Abarth as it was with the Gordini, but the '09 500 must have a higher safety rating because there wasn't as much mayhem this time. The first picture is of Race 1, Lap 1. The entire field rounding turn 4. The second picture features @JamCar0ne with the only spin that I noticed to happen at Tsukuba that night. The third picture is of turn 4 again, this time the final lap of Race 2. It's hard to see, but the whole field is located somewhere between turns 1 and 5 still at this point.

Combo 2 was a last-minute surprise Alpine A110 race instead of the Silvia we had grown accustomed to in the past few days. I had the forethought to make a livery for it, but not enough to practice driving it. The first race was the maiden voyage in that car for me, and many others. Luckily, I had practiced that track layout a lot and only had to acclimate myself to the car, which after a few laps actually felt pretty good. The first picture shows Race 1, Lap 1, Turn 2 and the chaos of half the field either running wide or losing the rear end. @Oshawa-Joe would come out clean here and stay in front the rest of the race. The second picture was a pile up before the final turn. The third picture shows @CANOWORMS1 chasing down @racingchamp30 and @JamCar0ne. The fourth picture showcases the long battle @Oshawa-Joe and @JamCar0ne had in Race 2. And the fifth picture is of @TexHill, with Ronald McDonald in the back, following @Mac1032763.

Combo 3 was my favorite of the night. The adrenaline was pumping with the 991 Porsche. Picture one has @Ropere leading the back half of the pack into T1. Picture two is of @TexHill's sacrificial dive to the right to avoid rear ending me as we go into turn 4. I heard the tires screech but didn't know who or what happened until I checked the replay. We're both sporting German Eagles, his is of the 'General German Automobile Club' and mine is Germany's coat of arms. The third picture is of Division 2's newest Snail, @AronD in his Van Halen Eruption car, running side by side with @CANOWORMS1. The fourth picture has @Mac1032763 (wild livery!) leading @CdnSweetTee out of the final turn. Five is @racingchamp30, @JamCar0ne, and I during Race 2. Picture six was a close call! I came in too hot trying to make a move on @AronD and wound up in the guardrail just before flying across track into the outside wall. Thankfully I threaded the needle right between Aron and @Oshawa-Joe so no one else was involved. In the seventh picture, @CdnSweetTee is now leading the way out of the final turn for @Mac1032763 and @cesarr64. Finally, the eighth picture is a photo finish moment with @Oshawa-Joe and @TexHill in Race 2. Tex had been leading for almost the entire race and apparently had some distractions going on which led to Joe taking the lead.

This was a great way to kick off the year. I had a lot of fun moments last night, but the best one was probably the battle I had with @JamCar0ne in Round 3 Race 1. Very clean and fast racing as we battled for second place. I hope to see y'all again soon, work might be getting in the way of my participation in the near future. Playing it by ear for now, I'll be sure to get my hosting duties covered if need be. Have a good one!

I'd like to welcome our new D1 members, @tyoungbl and @Longball I hope you had fun in with our little group and wishing to see you again on track.

@radliffracing Your race recaps are very well done, same as @Buffalo_DRD and @CANOWORMS1 from time to time. I like seeing you guys contribute and make this thread alive during the week. Keep them coming. We all have a different style, I try to capture full grid photos and some of my observations but you guys bring that to another level.

Shout out to @Oshawa-Joe who started the recent trend of adding SNAIL themed stickers on our liveries. I do it as much as I can unless I pick an uneditable livery from the showcase and by the looks of things I'm not the only one.

With that said, here are some photos from D1 with some commentary (wouldn't go as far as to call it a recap)
Fun little combo to start the year. Not the most fun to drive as such but it turns in a total blast when you add other drivers on track.

@Kgffy and myself side by side. We ran lap 2 and most of lap 3 side by side. Amazing display of racecraft from your part, as usual.
I had a hot battle with @DublDee a couple of laps later. I really had to work to get that position.

Ah the Alpine, we ran it 9 consecutive weeks last year but on Sports Mediums tires. This time, it was on confort softs making for a whole different experience. Excellent combo pick from @Buffalo_DRD even though we had to fall back on the backup car, both cars were good picks.

Last combo of the night, @bublyman leading the race and ended up taking the win fair and square.

Not satisfied with its last two wins, @bublyman strikes on the last lap to take the lead from @Nicktune

The manoeuver stuck and it was enough to claim the last win of the night. @bublyman Very well done, you had a really good pace on that combo.
