I was trying to do this sooner, but real life kept intervening.

HW Road tripping Skyline R34
You know... I'd love this if it was just the purple and matte hood. Still nice.

Auto world Dodge Dart Swinger, and 68 Firebird
Love love love the Dart. Insanely nice. Firebird is good too, but the hood doesn't quite shut.

Had a feeling this set might become stupid rare, so dropped the $$ back in 2011. Forward to 2015 and yep, it's pretty much nonexistent everywhere. The castings are not unique, but the trim levels and colors are.

Never knew that there could be a 4-car TLV set, and that one is quite interesting and cool. Although the castings are not unique, I'd get that set just for the black Mazda Cosmo Turbo alone.

How much $$$ did you drop on that, if you don't mind me asking?

It was in the $90 range, which isn't too bad for 4 TLV cars. There was only one seller to choose from even back then, so I didn't argue.
In addition to the new metallic black, the Cosmo has a few detail upgrades over the standard issue, such as the "MAZDA" logo printed on the grille, which LV-N02 lacks.

Well, when you can find at least one seller with the set, spending 90 bucks doesn't hurt as much as it can. Nowadays, as you've said, finding a similar set is nearly impossible, especially with that price tag...
Also, the black Cosmo actually has additional detailing? Interesting, guess TLV wanted to make the Turbo castings more distinctive compared to the "normal" TLV line. Does that happen with any of the other three cars in the set?

The Cosmo upgrades are just to the graphics, nothing in the physical casting itself. Can't speak as to the other 3, because I don't own any of the standard issues for comparison. I would guess with the Cosmo being the earliest, it had more room for improvement.

EDIT (pictures):

Front side-by side.

The level of detail is over the top. Note the flat black rub strip on a metallic black car.

Thanks for the comparo pictures, first and foremost. Secondly, I do guess that older castings such as the Cosmo would be improved more than the younger ones graphics-wise (which already have improvements over the "old hats" as is).

However, emulating a black rubber stripe on a black car, Tomica? That's truly a Japanese level of attention to detail...

Went out to the flea market yet again. Scored some more good things including:

A Matchbox Ford RS200 (in the rally livery as well)
A fairly beat up Matchbox 1962 Corvette
A Hot Wheels Pro Stock Pontiac Firebird
And alot more.

But I have something a bit different. A seller had some HO-scale model trains and accessories. One of them was a Matchbox Ferrari Trailer. The date says 1981 on it and I was wondering if this came with a matching truck as well. Can any of you guys help me out?

Wow, I've never seen that set before, very cool. 👍 Love the Gemini in that green.

Is there a meter maid in that Meter Maid?
I've still not encountered one on a peg.

Outstanding set - and nice photo, too! 👍
Is the white car a Toyota Crown? I used to own a Crown many years ago and that looks close to it.
