Kyosho was cheaper, because it was just being released(thanks to @RCKakashi14 for the heads up). Tomica at that point was already going for something like $30, but I can't remember for sure. Let me see how much I paid for the Kyosho..... It was $24, shipped. I have no idea how much it's going for today. I'm guessing the market value of the Kyosho 787B would stabilize, or possibly take a dip as soon as the TLV version hits the market.

Edit: Oh my frigging god, dude. I just checked the sold listing search on eBay & there was just one:

I had no idea it jumped that much. I'd have guessed about $40, maybe $50.
Luckily I already have one in 1:43 scale. With a brilliant display box. It was actually a birthday present some 7 years ago, and my mind was blown when dad told me that it came from Portugal.

Speaking of the TLV 787B, how much do you guys think it will inflate in price several months after release (or once production has stopped)? Right now I'm still on the fence, but I know I will need to make a decision soon.

So out of pure curiosity, for someone who currently doesn't collect TLV, Kyosho, Tomica, CMs, etc due to inability to buy online, what would everyone that does collect those recommend as a first model when taking into account relatively lower cost but still has good looks and decent detailing? What would be a good "entry level" model of sorts is what I'm trying to get at?
While I'm not strictly a collector, as I don't buy everything that is produced in 1/64 scale (or at least that's what I like to think :scared:), I think that Kyosho is a brand that offers pretty nice detailing for their worth. One of the things they excel in is the variety of cars available. Another reason why I prefer them over Tomica Premium is that they are more realistic, as most Kyoshos have both plastic head- and tailights, as well as mirrors. I don't have any Tomica Premium cars though, so I'm saying this judging from pictures alone.

CMs is also a pretty nice option that doesn't cost a lot, judging from photos. Their interior is also pretty detailed. TLV, on the other hand, is a bit expensive, but they definitely offer a lot of detail, perhaps even the best in the industry.

Another advice is to buy the cars you like, and think carefully before purchasing. These are all suggestions though, as only you know what is available readily around you. Besides, I am sure there are a lot more people here who have way more experience and can provide better insight, so these are just my two cents.

Two cars and free shipping. Not a bad way to start off.
Cars like Alto, you might be able to squeeze in 3. Maybe Alto, another TLV & a Kyosho.
That's probably a good thing actually. Will allow you to catch up on all the cars you haven't blogged yet. 👍
If Hulu go down for a month, then maybe. :D
Reckon you should get, oh, about a quarter of the way through it by the end of month. :P
More like a quarter of a half.
As far as I can tell from googling, beads has two aerials
I think I have noticed that before. It would've been so cool to have one to compare, side by side!

I have the 1/18, so I may do 1/43 one of these days. I don't collect 1/43, but it would be a cool piece for shot with the 1/18 & 1/64.

I don't think it'll go up much in the first 6 months to a year, but TLV secondary market's been totally unpredictable. With Hot Wheels, I can guess fairly accurately what the ballpark figure might be. With special models from TLV, your guess is as good as mine.

Be prepared to pay $150-200 if you snooze on the pre-order. Certain TLV releases are deified by Japanese collectors and this will be one of them.

I think the correct term you're looking for is value appreciation, and not inflation.

But to respond to your question, I'm going to take a wild guess and say 250% of its retail value.

Maybe it's just the mood I'm in right now but I'm on the edge of just permanently stopping with Hot Wheels and Matchbox and selling everything. Quite a lot of people know I'm a collector and are perfectly okay with it until the very second any HW or MB car gets involved. Then its like a bomb gets dropped. Not to mention the stupid crap my friends and I have run into in stores which almost exclusively occurs when Hot Wheels and Matchbox are involved. Its like someone or something is trying to tell me to stop. Maybe I should. There are people who won't even bother to look in my direction because they think I'm an autistic child (their words) because I collect Hot Wheels and Matchbox let alone at my age. And quite honestly after years of hearing it over and over again as well as other things unrelated to collecting cars, it's gotten to the point where I'm just about ready to stop collecting for good never to look back and sell everything so it can all be over asap. After all everyone has a breaking point somewhere that will likely get reached at some point. And I'm just about there.

Meet me at a dark alley.

Midnight.

Bring no one.

Its time. Ive moved twice this year and realized that my collection might be better served and appreciated by someone else.

Anyone sold cars before? Whats the best way to sell them without taking a total wash.

Well, definitely don't throw the cats into a river!

@Johnny1996 , if the current state of things is making you unhappy, then definitely step away from the hobby (at least temporarily).

Didn't I suggest to not fight over the same thing very other crazy person in your neighbourhood is fighting for?

Move onto something else like older Kyoshos/Beads.

GTP-exclusive tip: Offer what you got to us first.

Next step: Do you care more about the money to be made or actually just getting them out of your house and life?

Of course, how could I forget.👍
For once, I thought it was going to be a Walking Dead reference.
Totally! 👍
Maybe by 2020 Tokyo Olympics. :dopey:

Hide everything, Johnny. Only people who know me well know that I collect, and even to those I downplay how serious my disease is. lol

Serious difference here's that my peeps have fun checking out my hot wheels, and they are ecstatic when I gift JDM guys & gals Skylines, or VW guy a Kool Kombi. They think it's a pretty cool hobby, and as you guys know, I'm a grown man with ripe age of almost thirty years.....

Anywho, it's like with some other fun things. I just keep them on a downlow. :P My other hobby, guns, now that one worries some people. I just tell them to f off.

I've decided just to keep doing what I'm doing, partly because the break I'm already on right now should help cure the frustration. And if not I'll just take another break. And that's with everything, Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Greenlights, you name it. Everything as far as 1:64 goes.

As far as moving on, there's only so much I can do since I can't buy online. Which of course would probably eliminate most of the issues I end up with but in my current situation it doesn't help.

I try to nowadays but people still feel the need to put me under a microscope and assume things and make up rumors about me and just toss my name around. With Hot Wheels it started with one Hot Wheels NASCAR car and the assumption was made I was a Hot Wheels collector. Of course they're right but as far as I know they don't know they're right but they act like it.

I'll do you a deal. If you get a 1/43 787b by the end of the year, I'll never mention a certain green car ever again. I promise! :P

I was going to laugh but oh, to be thirty again...

I'm going through boxes of cars to sell and keep, and I found this Matchbox 4Runner. I'm keeping it simply because it has a similar design as local racer Ed Lynch Jr's car. :embarrassed:

Also, does anyone know anything about this Hot Wheels Viper?

That would be a Speed Machines version. All came with CoMo wheels and more details as a whole, and were a semi-premium line focusing on performance cars. Back in 2010 when they were new they just sat on the pegs, but now they've become one of the more desirable series to collect with their low initial sales only bolstering their value. In fact, I'd bet if Mattel released a new Speed Machines series it would sell like hot cakes. There was going to be a second run of Speed Machines, but again due to low sales it got canned.

Those calling you autistic for collecting HW and MB are stupid. There are a lot of collectors that are way older than you and me, it's a friggin hobby ! I think they are the autistic ones if they need to make an effort of tossing rumour around you for collecting 🤬 die cast cars.

As for the craziness over those cars, i know how you feel, maybe just take a break a bit man, but don't ever let anyone keep you away from collecting because their reason is so stupid.
My friend who is a more of a model kit collector also mocks the people who collect HW, i didn't talk much with him nowadays or just avoid talking about HW.

If you get a part time job, you can get a kick-start on your building Disposable Income and paying off your soon-to-be school debt (if you planned to be an educated person).

Spend less in general; care a little less for these toy cars; live happier.

Unfortunately, a-holes will be a-holes, and people will always talk. It would make a good training to stop worrying about what people are saying. If they say that you stink, then definitely brush your teeth/floss/rinse with mouthwash, shower, wash clothes & put on a deodorant, but other than that, just learn to give them the imaginary finger & move on. It's not worth sweating over what other losers are saying about you. And whatever you do, don't listen to this guy:

Andy is trying to corrupt our community with things like restraint, discipline. I miss that Andy that bought things left & right like there's no tomorrow. He sounds like Canadian Hot wheel Dr. Phil now. I'm so disappointed.
Been wondering about this one. My god, are they so blind to the market it takes them this long to cash in on the JDM? M2 was unbelievably slow, but they had to start from scratch. Johnny Lightning already had design on hand.

Admittedly, I bought all that stuff partly to impress you guys... once prices got absurd, the Canadian dollar fell, and the fact I was paying the price of a dine-in restaurant meal to ship like 5 toy cars most people don't even care for, I started realizing I could've probably paid off my school debt a few years earlier than I actually did. Yes. I'm debt-free from school now... this is way better than buying more toy cars!

But other than that, y'all should try some high-end 1:43s at the very least if you don't have space for 1:18s... :sly:

So @Spacegoat mentioned while ago how the release of the silver TLV Safety Loader was moved ahead to September? I didn't even notice that one, but I did catch the notification email this time, that they are moving the release date back to October. What the heck was that about?

Just finished reading that email, I was just about to ask you if you had received it yet. The flatbed was originally scheduled for October, then for whatever reason was pushed forward to September, and now has been pushed back to October again? Make up your mind TomyTec!!:crazy:

Is this official email? The Tomytec product page still says September.

I also thought this was due to be released in October until one of the big department stores here in HK started offering preorders stating a release date of Sept 9th. And then every shop announcing on Facebook that all preorders will be fulfilled. It's why I took photos of the 787b with the loader
