Anyone care to share the pros and cons to opening your collection?

I have over 170 cars easily... torn on opening them or not.

Are they an investment for you? (selling in the future?)

If you just buy them because you like the cars, no reason to keep them sealed.

I kept most of my cars carded for the longest time because I didn't have anywhere to put them loose where they wouldn't get nicked up. Finally got a display case and have started making my own shadowbox displays, so they've been going in there.

I keep a few carded just so I can brag about having a mint condition car from the '90s about 20 years later.

Theace, I'll take some off you if any of them have wheels I want. How much will be you charging for each and what will your shipping be like?

edit: Actually, let me save you the trouble. Do any of your cars have these of the following wheels and if so which ones?

screensnapzk.jpg

In any colour and in regular-sized wheels and another a size up?

Umm, you buy those cars to take them apart and I will personally hunt you down.

And I'll help him. But...

Let me save YOU the trouble. All the cars posted in that list haave wheels that look either like this (which, btw, aare impossible to pry off the base without cutting them):

or like these:

All of them are 60s-early 70s cars, the wheels you listed are from the Tyco era (mid-1990s) to today.

Maybe I'll make an interactive youtube video where I slowly (and poorly) cut one open for its wheels until you guys send me your Super THs to save them.

The Hobby of 1:64 Collecting just got real.

That dump truck thing's awesome!
Ergh, as much as I don't want to be involved in your financial woes because of toy cars, I think in your case we are as guilty as you.
Spenditure's one thing, but the actual problem is the volume. I really gotta put check on this, because the inventory's starting to get a little ridiculous for an apartment dweller.
To be honest, my love for collecting Hot Wheels i have, i get from my dad.;) My dad used to collect them when he was younger just as i do, he probly has a bunch of them redlines from back when they came out. Unfortuntly due to family problems i can't get them!
Sorry to hear that man. Things do change over time though. Let's hope you inherit some of those cool cars down the line. :D

Edit: I forgot to post the Ford versus Chevy I received today.

So it was from the Ford vs. Chevy. Hmm. Got that Chevelle, the Cougar, and waiting on the Cobra to arrive.
I think what we thought was a Chevelle is actually a '65 Malibu. You'll love Cobra. That's one of the best one's in the set. 👍

AOS-
So I take it that the cars you have don't have wheels I want?

No they most deffinately dont..

All of my cars are 1960-1980

Anyways, I. Hoping cano can tell me what there worth, illl post them on ebay and anything you guys want will be put into private sales...

They are purchased because I like the cars, indeed. Almost 95% of the cars are real vehicles and not Hot Wheel Originals. (Not counting hot wheel originals based largely off of real cars like the Brazilian Stock Car and Formula Cars).

I had the idea to make playful dioramas and display the cars in settings similar to car shows, races and track days.

I keep a few carded just so I can brag about having a mint condition car from the '90s about 20 years later.

There are a handful that I don't think I'll open like Twin Mill III and a few of the cars that are already 10+ years old.

I'm torn on whether or not to open my Treasure Hunt BRE Datsun Z, though...

I guess I'm going to be opening them! Soon... maybe I should buy some cases first.

I am far behind in this thread.

For some reason, I find the PR5 Subaru quite attractive, although...not sure if I can say it's better than the 10SPs. Interesting to see something different.

Also a6m5 got me wondering, is the Garage set worth the $39.95 price tag I found at Tuesday Morning?

I got it for $36 on Amazon. I think it's now $35.95 or something like that. Also, at the time, I provided a link I found of some department store that had them for $34($30+$4 ship, I think).

Cars come out to $1.80 a piece. I'm a fan of the Garage series, so it was well worth it to me!

P.S. Handful of cars of this set, if you like Muscle cars, they are just AMAZING.

They set I found had Ferrari in it. But yeah, it is mainly American muscle.

I just saw that on eBay earlier, also going for about $100. Awesome set, but yeah, I got better uses for a c-note!

Worth the $39.95 then? I'm sort of tempted by it... But at the same time something in the back of my mind's telling me to wait or just ignore it because of the price.

Dude, just do the math. Those cars generally sold for $3 a piece. 40(dollars) divided by 30(cars). Personally, if there was a small child between me & this set, I'D TOTALLY PULL A CANO.

AND I WOULDN'T REGRET A 🤬 THING!!!!
