@a6m5 I like the look of its tyres. Apart from that it's a bit (in my opinion) dull but then again I haven't seen BTTF.

Still beats that van from Old School lol

Wow 900 pages.
I don't want to brag, but I did it all by myself.

Do not. Ever bring up that van again.

@a6m5 I don't blame you!

Found some more retro hot wheels (tv show movie ones) today in store, pretty uninspiring ones though.
Same here. They are all old, and I didn't care about them when they were new. Goes for everything else as well. Greenlight is one exception.

yabiggoose,

So I had bought these recently, there's 4 more in the Star Trek pop culture range....

...and today I managed to find the other four. Woo hoo for a complete (minor) range!

I was shopping for cars about a month ago - told myself twenty-buck limit, started cruising the pegs and then saw the Lt. Uhura, picked it up right away (I'm a bit of a Trekkie - and anyway: First Kiss in Space that ever hit the airwaves? Of course you got to pick it up - it's a collectible from just too many angles) picked more cars, started looking too hard at the the Metal/Metal -R/Rs, and then suddenly realised I had gone five bucks over and it was a fight between Bond and Lt. Uhura.
The Bondophile in me won and I went home with the Mach 1 but regretting I couldn't take the Lt. home. Kiss, kiss - bang, bang won that round.
I also was not sure I could score the whole set - It was only the Lt. on the pegs. If Sulu's Otto was on there I would have definitely grabbed it.
The whole set together makes it a very good investment if that's your plan on this - and you should store it well. For instance if there is another huge Trekkie movie to hit the circuits, collectors of Star Trek memorabilia (as well as those who suddenly want Trek stuff to go with the trend) suddenly start hunting around for what's on sale out there.

Unless, of course, you were going to open it out and do a Star Trek race diorama or something ..... :D

@photonrider oh they're definitely staying in pack! I don't plan to scalp them off but hey if it turns out one day the set is worth a bit, never know!

I don't think that's scalping them off - it would be just investing.
Scalping would be buying up a surplus quantity of something that is released in a limited issue (for instance you can't scalp loaves of bread - they make them all the time) and then putting it out immediately on the market at a premium (since the market is now depleted by the scalper taking up the stocks) making collectors pay more than they would have if they were left on the pegs.
OTH - Judicious investing would be to pick up items that you would think will appreciate in marketibility in time - and for sure movie-themed items have a large market.
Die-casts are not only collected by die-cast collectors.

For instance someone into Coke memorabilia would pay quite handsomely to get their hands on a complete Matchbox 50th Anniversary Calendar Girls Truck set - not because they're into trucks but because it has to do with Coke.

Cleared out my Race Track completely because I'm making an attempt to complete the construction . . . but it's so hard when some vehicles just got to come out and play . . . and won't leave the track.

Seeing the trend of my local stores, I'm not expecting to find the Toyota truck, which will be a darn shame.

Sometimes I think its the employees scalping goodies, but sometimes I think the cases we get just don't get certain goodies.

Employees are in the front line when it comes to scalping any sort of limited edition collectibles that come through the retail network. It's a tough situation, though - imagine this scenario - a limited run of (say) 10,000 (!) items is announced, and when the distribution is worked out worldwide through the chains a 1000 units are sent to each of one of (say) ten countries. Each country has 20 units sent to each of the 50 stores in the country.
At that point, the Manager, (or even several department mgrs) will pick up what they want first as employee purchases. Then it trickles down to the employees.
It's a miracle any announced limited edition collectible makes it on to the pegs.

Obviously we're not talking items from the Franklin Mint . . . .

Opened these a few minutes ago. The last of the overdue-for-opening packages.
Over 200 packages opened. Was fun.

These were the 'oddities' . . . :D . . . so they got opened last. Odd, eh?

And opened:

The 'oddities' tray (a corner of which is pictured below) will be getting some company soon.

Make room, oddballs!

@Clocktower - I can't believe you guys pay so much for Mainlines. Something definitely rotten in the State of Denmark. ;)
Question: what about other brands? Are they cheaper? And what do you find available?

I caught your post about the fact that one of the joys of collecting is 'finding' it on the pegs (as opposed to online purchases) and I fully agree with that aspect of collecting - but this must be specially tough for you considering the pricing and probably low item count on the pegs.

I have a car preordered from them due this month,

Which one is that?

The 260Z I have on preorder is listed as late May. Patiently waiting.
Wow 900 pages.

And almost 27 thousand posts too. Doesn't seem too long ago that @SVX was yelling (:P) at us for not acknowledging the 25 thousand posts milestone.

*chuckles*

I honestly didn't expect for it to get this big.

UK (or Europe for that matter) has more access to Matchbox, Majorette, and Norev I believe. Hot Wheels is a North American-based brand which is likely why we can get them for less.

Asia gets Tomicas, Kyosho, Aoshimas, you get the idea.

We have Hot Wheels, Matchbox and Majorette. All mainlines only, and same price...
I never heard of any collectors here, that's why I hang out with you guys.

But you know.. no collectors - more TH's for me! Never found a super though...

M2's I buy from a webshop in Germany. (I've become addicted to them)

I do get a bit envious when you guys show off your pop culture's and other "special" series. :banghead:

I don't have any more time than I do to make this one post, but I went to get some boxes for storing my cars and I found some cars. One is another Speedbox TH. I went to the grocery store afterward to look for cars, and I found six premium cars, which was enough to get the whole series. I also found a Rescue Duty TH and three Fiat 500s. :)

I ended up having a total for both stores of ~$35.

I had a hilarious and ironic moment when at the checkout, though. The older lady who ran the checkout said "Boy, some little man will be very happy tonight."

I found a Rescue Duty TH . :)

As did I. Except I left it there! *anteater*

2011 Muscle Mania '69 Coronet Super Bee.

I sold my collection of Mainline Super Bees and here am I acquiring another one because I really like lime green on American boxy cars. But that car ain't so special, so here's another one.

Time for cars. Matchbox Cadillac CTS-V Wagon.

IMG_20140505_210103.jpg

The basics I got. Both T-Hunts and the Fiats. Also pictured is a Toyota Tundra. I left a Camaro Special Edition behind.

IMG_20140505_210029-1.jpg

And the premos. The whole sub-series I go tonight, but it effectively screwed me for a little bit on buying cars, but its a good kind of screw. It allows me to focus on what I already have.
