1 or 2 feet for Petals?

Sorry guys, Pedals it is...I don't spell out this word everyday..LOL...Anyways, I definitely have learned to be fast using just my right foot but I appear to have hit a ceiling....I've only all bronzed X1 version 1.05 and all silvered AMG v1.08. Searching for ways to improve...

You don't have to spell it everyday to take the time to look up in a dictionary and see the difference between a pedal and a petal. For example I don't spell "religion" everyday to know that it's spelled "h-o-a-x" ;)

I can't use my left foot to brake, I either brake too hard or too soft.

Im the same. I used to use 2 feet without knowing the benefit, but then started using the clutch with my G25 and can't go back to 2 feet. Its all heel toe now. Its pretty comfortable for me and I am pretty quick, I suppose. I managed to finish all races and challanges on GT5 this way.

Left foot braking is used in ALL motorsports. Pro drivers all left foot brake along with other techniques that you may not know about. You don't left foot break every turn, mainly it's for high speed turns where you left foot break while keeping the throttle pinned, you do this just for a quick weight transfer to plant the front end for the up coming turn.
Kinda off subject but pro drivers also don't use their clutch very often when shifting gears. It's a lot faster and less unsettleing to the car to not use your clutch for gear changes. I'm not talking about sequential gear boxes either, normal gated gear boxes... driver's will just shift, and while there gear lever is in the neutral position they will match revs before throwing it into whatever gear their shifting to.

I've been curious about this for people with clutch pedals. Since the full race transmission is a dog box (or at least sounds like one and acts like one with the adjustable ratios) do you get away with not using the clutch when shifting? I guess since you can't damage a car, it wouldnt matter much.

2 feet with a DFGT, you can ride the brake on entry to the corners while keeping the power on lightly, keeps the car nicely balanced. Best to try this on the elise special event as that car handles on a knife edge.

2 feet for me 👍 As has been mentioned, it helps prevent that horrible lift-off snap oversteer on twitchy MR cars

Hmm I don't think my rig could handle this footwork.

OMG how good did rally used to be, how crazy are the people lining the sides of the track like that, and that is easily some of the best footwork that I have ever seen.

Edit: +1 for 2 feet

Was that Walter Rohrl?

Rally still IS that good. They haven't taken these tools out of the drivers' hands (and feet) the way they have with F1.

I love road racing, but I think the rally drivers are the most skilled in the world.

Unless I'm using the clutch on my G27 I left foot brake. And I don't usually attempt to race competitively with the clutch, since there's the disadvantage of having to use one foot for brake and accelerator, plus the disadvantage of me missing 50% of my shifts into 3rd... :-P

Also, there's nothing like losing the lead when your rear end steps out because you can't heel and toe brake in sock feet.

i just played 5 laps of nordschleife in gtr evo on an bmw m3 e30 with clutch an all and it felt much, much better. it´s sad that gt5 has such a bad realization of shifting. :/ didn´t recognized it before, but now it´s pretty obvious..

GTveteran...strangely enough, my positioning on my loveseat is quite comfy with the pedals to my right...won 6.5hr Suzuka 100km using my Nissan GT-R LM Race Car that way...however, I'm realizing now that I'm probably not as fast as I can be.

It's okay the way everything is now. I'm not as slow as a turtle and I'm not getting a playseat for now.

Well thats absolutely fine. The main thing is you're happy with your set up.:)

I think that this is relevant to the discussion if any one can remember when richard Hammond drove the Renault f1 car apart from setting a record for kicking in the anti-stall he was also slated by the test engineer for taking 1/4 to change from the accelerator to the brake this was because he has to think to use his right foot. Using the left foot to brake is in my opinion the best of the two ways to use pedals the other being heel and toe(this I am not going to go into). LFB allows the car to remain balanced during the braking and corner entry phase. Whilst being the easiet to learn.

I use both. Tried 1 foot and was faster with ds3.

I've had this discussion with a few people, but I've experimented with a friend, me on the wheel and him on the ds3. Mind you I'm not the fastest driver but I can hold my own, and I couldn't keep up with the ds3. We figured out that the braking is different, it basically brakes perfectly for you. Far less slip, tires don't heat up the same. The wheel is so much more sensitive.

The ds3 also seems to accelerate faster though we didn't go too much into that. The braking though is totally different.

In conclusion, the fastest you can be is with two feet on the ds3 👍

When paddle shifting, left-foot brake is the way to go (faster). When using a shifterbox, you mostly need your left foot for the clutch, so right foot is needed here to brake.

if you dont use the clutch ...

Didn't you see him matching revs without the clutch on his upshifts?????
Yes you still use the clutch, i didn't sat you never use the clutch. When downshifting (especially through multiple gears) you still clutch. Up shifting, clutching isn't necessary. Watch the video again, you can see him blipping the throttle while left foot braking (shifting without clutching).

I can advise you getting a lap rest for your wheel then. It may not be the most realistic, but its a lot better than having to sit in an awkward position. You should be able to get one from the Logitec website if, of course, you don't already have one.

I use this set up and its very comfortable because you can recline and relax which is also better for your driving.

Are you referring to the Logitech Lap Attachment?

Too bad there isn't any rally coverage in the US anymore. Before FOX took over speed, they used to have an our every night of an event (Fri-Sat-Sun). And even though the coverage didn't cover every event, and overall wasn't that good, HD Theater had coverage a week late. But now, I haven't been able to find anything. This really sux!
