Deputies seized the murder weapon, a .22 caliber rifle which was given to the boy by his mother when he was 11 years old.
Firstly, tragic story.
Secondly, maybe it's just me, but who gives a weapon to an 11-year old? That's just crazy. This, also gives me a reason to why weapons are illegal (without a license) here in Denmark.

Gifting firearms to older kids is one thing, but I do think it's dangerous to give the kids free access to them. Kids should be able to handle firearms only under adult supervision.

This crime has very little to do with firearms though. Kid gets his video game taken away, his "tumor of rage" goes off(uh-huh), tries to rape his mother, then kills her.

I don't know where you begin, but what worries me here isn't the gun or the CoD.

I learned how to use a variety of weapons when I was 11, and a long time before. I used 12 and 20 gauge shotguns, .22 rifles, .17 HMR's, various BB guns, cross bow pistols, hell I even shot an AK47. I received a certificate and then registered with the NYS DEC for my hunting license. I knew better than to do something stupid and I was taught well. I see nothing wrong with giving an 11 year old a weapon if the person knows how to operate it safely. It's a tool just like anything else.

And I agree about only being able to handle weapons only under adult supervision. Thats how I was brought up around them until I was about 13-14 because I was trustworthy enough with them.

I'm sorry but  .

This has got to be in the Top 5 of silly cases.
Tried to rape his mom...

This is the kind of stuff that make people my age look bad. :yuck:

I'd be willing to bet they are going to attempt to use this to start up the war against guns again.

I'm 15 .. and I have Call of Duty , I can get very easily influenced by games but still ... dayum I can not be that retarded!

Apparently you can justify murder by saying you're really mad, at least that's what his lawyer thinks

...and guns, games, parents and adolescent behavioural disorders...
... enough for some fascistic shartnozzle to try and ban as many of those things as they can and control the others.
Quite.

Still, as someone who semi-regularly plays COD, it's novel to find a screaming kid who shouldn't have the game threatening to rape their own mother, rather than mine.

I almost peed myself.

Well he didn't kill her with kindness now, did he?

Or the kitchen utensils, or the fire escape ladder, or a belt, nor the car, nor the faucet, nor the oven. Though those cases would be different, for some reason.

I always tell the kids who shouldn't be playing COD that their parents should be shot but I never thought someone would take my advice.

Now I wait for the media to get all up in arms about video games causing violence etc when they don't. Only mentally unstable people cause these problems so leave the games & guns out of it.

This story is sick enough as it is.

If the media starts a massive war over guns and video games and such over this, I'll just have to start puking.

Sick.

Must be the gun's fault, it couldnt have been something the parents did after all.

Well the link did reveal some oedipus within the kid...I just hope his mom didn't have a hand in fostering it.

Or it could be he's just a really messed up kid.
