I only blast how vaguely worded that amendment is and how easily warped and distorted it is. Anyone with a f:censored:ing brain in their skull would know that.

Seems to me the only people who say it's vaguely worded are the ones who wish to contravene what it very clearly says.

I bet the kid was on ritalin, ssri, or some other crazy cocktail of pills.

What's wrong with ritalin? Furthermore, what's wrong with a medical professional using prescribed medicine to treat mental disorders/illness?

Don't worry about "offending" Britons on this forum when you show the tabloids as the fearmongering arseholes that they are...especially if that tabloid is involved with Piers Morgan.

Well most Brits know The Sun is the most useless crap that is printed.

Tbh I would have been pissed too if someone toke Cod or Crysis 2 away for me. Maybe not necesarily rape someone over it but punch to the face is enough, despite the gender. Im very fond of FPS, as some of you might be aware of. But rape is rape so he will do some time I guess.

Or, you know, the murder that followed the rape...

And if you'd punch someone in the face (especially a woman) over a video game, you might wanna see someone about them anger issues.

A man no more deserves to be punched in the face than a woman, or maybe I should say a woman deserves it no less. I'd hit one in self-defense.

Meanwhile in the rest of the world, kids who don't have an excessive expectation of privilege don't attempt to rape or punch their own mother for attempting to parent them.

I like how you say you wouldn't necessarily rape "someone" (reminder: in the article, "someone" is the kid's mum) for taking your game away. As if that needs any kind of qualification - like you'd think about maybe raping them, but would probably not do so. Since not being able to play a computer game could potentially require forced sexual intercourse as a proportionate response.

It rather looks like you're very fond of not thinking and spouting drivel for the sake of it.

I'm glad you ditched that old signature - it just wasn't working for you.

Attempted rape isn't rape. But murder is murder. Since, you know, he killed her rather than putting his winkie in her.

Try growing up a bit before you post next, 'kay?

I suppose that's true, but I feel like there's more of a stigma attached to physical violence against women, so for a lot of people it's something that doesn't enter their mind as much.
I agree that perhaps that kind of thinking is stupid, because realistically no one deserves it more or less based on gender or anything else, but that's not really the same issue. As things are, I think most people see punching a woman in the face as 'worse' than punching a man in the face.

Punching anyone in the face, man or woman, over a video game is just plain wrong. Anyone who would do it, or even seriously contemplate it, needs help. Bad.

Let's not even get into the "not necessarily rape" issue; that's even sicker.

You might be the reason the anti-violent-video-game folks gain any traction. When you ruin it for everyone else, we'll know why.

Don't play Bejewled, either...you might rob a jewelry store.

Whilst I was doing research for my assignment (the one I mentioned last time) , I found that it was ironic how the media would view videogames as unethical, but the ethical principles of Utilitarianism and Kantianism cannot conclusively prove that they are unethical.

Who gives an 11-year-old a firearm as a gift? I don't blame video games, guns, etc. I blame irresponsible people who can't parent their kids right.

I got a shotgun for Christmas when I was 12. Somehow I never felt compelled to rape and murder my mother.

BUMP

But it's for a good reason. I just read the last 4 Pages and I need to get my opinions out there.

1st. "Guns don't kill people, people kill people." He had perfect control of what he was doing. If anyone tries to say the 2nd Amendment is the problem saying what I quoted will give you a good argument back at them.

2nd. Who in their mind gives an 11 Year Old a gun for a gift. That is just bad parenting in my opinion.

3rd. I play violent games most of my life. And I never had a thought of killing and attempting to rape my mother. Or killing innocent civilians, or taking a car and go on a road rage (that's from Burnout 3), or speed dangerously in traffic. So killing someone over a game and then claiming you have ADD is just idiotic.

If he really is mentally ill, he never had perfect control of what he was doing. Some people just freak out and do stupid things, he needs help. No person that is in control, tries to rape and kill his mother over a game. Who knows what he would have done without a gun? If the mind is set to kill, it will.

We need to round up all teenagers on earth and stick them on an island somewhere. :P

They did in Norway...

Not really.

I mean, it would be if they gave him a gun, fully loaded and said "Hey, go have fun". But you know, giving your kid ANYTHING and allowing them unfettered access is pretty poor parenting.

Giving them a gun as part of teaching them how to be responsible with weapons (of any kind, actually) - so they learn respect for them, discipline with them and, with practice on the range, ability with them - is pretty good parenting.

As I said earlier in the thread, my parents gave me a shotgun for Christmas when I was 12. I never felt compelled to kill anyone, not even when my mom grounded me from Call of Duty.
