2002 C5 Z06 Corvette

Do it! :D

Ill race you too goat. :P

That would be a pretty fun run :), I"ve never really ran a 5.0 yet, and stock for stock, both are pretty equal so it would be a good drivers race! Just wish you were local lol.

I'm actually in Sarasota, 45 min south of Tampa, so you could stop by on the way to Miami? 💡

Ouch, my wife and I were actually in that area (Clearwater/St. Petersburg area) two days ago, wish I would've saw this thread earlier that way we could've set something up. We were planning on Miami for 4th of July weekend, but if she changes her mind we may end up going back to that same area. I'll let you know if/when we'll be in your neck of the woods 👍

Cool, we will definitely set something up 👍

How are you only making 389 with full exhaust and a 100 shot? I made 417 at the rear just putting exhaust and a chip in mine:confused:

Those are my #'s without the 100 shot and it was on a Mustang dyno so they are a bit off. It was also almost 100 degrees outside that day, so I had some power loss too. :)

OP has a stock'ish C5z so I believe running no spray would make it a fair race. Figuratively I'd be making around 500 to the rear wheels had I sprayed on that dyno run but I didn't.

EXCELLENT purchase 👍 Nice to have another C5Z owner on the forums. Another little mod I would recommend is a short shifter. It makes a load of difference when shifting at WOT. I've had mine for 4.5 years now so if you have any questions about the ins/outs let me know. Also Corvetteforum.com is a great resource. Congrats on the new car, amazing the mileage is that low for an 02 👍

Thanks man I'm really happy with the purchase. I've always been a corvette guy at heart since I was a kid. I am looking at a short shifter, maybe a Hurst? I'm signed up on corvetteforums and z06vette.com.

Do you think you may come down to Sebring next year for the ALMS race? I'm prob going to bring the Vette this time and join the corvette corral. I'm also thinking of getting the Jake skull tattoo on my chest or bicep, too white trash lol?

I do have one question, I get the "service column lock" error code and "pull key wait 10 seconds' warning constantly but I think the previous owner already had the column lock removed. I read there is a bypass chip you can buy to stop this error message?

I got the B&M shifter but they're all pretty much the same. It was just $10 cheaper than the Hurst.

I'm planning on being at Sebring. This year I'll set everything up 6 months in advance so I don't have hotel booking issues. Regarding the Jake tattoo I already have one on each bicep so the more the merrier!

I have been lucky enough not to have the Steering Column issue, so I really don't know much about the fix. This thread will tell you everything you need to know about the column lock (link in post #12) and anything else to do with a C5Z. 👍

Awesome. I loved the 12hrs of Sebring last year I will be going every year now, as well as the 24hrs of Daytona. You could stay at my place in sarasota if you would like, its a 1hr & 30min drive to Sebring. It's a fun open road drive, you get in a caravan with other cars going and make up some pretty good time.
How much did the B&M shifter cost and installation by the way?
Blackbird.
Any plans on removing the pop-up headlights?
You know I really wanted to but the 'frog eyes' look is too odd for my taste. I did find some low profile lights that barely open and have projector beams that looked really nice but way too expensive. I think I'm going to just throw in some LED bright white bulbs because the stock lights are pretty weak. Btw have you S/C your stallion yet?

Sounds like a plan.

The shifter was $289 and I installed it myself. Took about 30 minutes.

So to those that own C5 Z06's, have you guys looked into changing your valve springs? Seems like on the vette forums the valve spring issues seem to be quite a horror story.

Yeah maybe a yellow Z06 it might look weird. But I saw a black one the other day and it looked nice.

As far as my Mustang, it should arrive in the shop either tomorrow or Wednesday. Then i'll take it in so they can install everything.

Like what "frog eye" ones were you thinking about? Do they look like the ones on the C5R?

These are the only lights I would consider doing, they are completely flush with the body like the C6.

I'm not sure how I feel about these, they are painted completely except for the actualy projector bulbs: (click for bigger pic)

I prefer the popup lights myself. They look goofy from inside the car but from the outside they actually look fine.

I haven't had an issue with them. I've had mine for over 4 years and it's currently at 105k miles. It doesn't get driven everyday though.

I see, yeah my friend did the frog eye ones since everything else was more then he felt like paying to get rid of his pop ups.

Awesome, congrats! I love the sound of a supercharger whine

There goes my short shifter fund, just got a $300 speeding ticket. Ouch.

:ouch:

That sucks. I was just thinking yesterday how lucky I am not to have any tickets. :scared:

I agree, details. :P

...and thank you, I called them this morning. It arrived Tuesday but they've been swamped in the shop so I'm taking it in either Monday or Tuesday and then it'll probably be almost a week for everything to be finished. Can't wait for next week to arrive! :)

Schweet! Details! Obviously not where though.:D

My first ever speeding ticket. Was on the highway moving along as it was wide open in the passing lane (which is rare). Sneaky snake highway patrol in the median behind trees. I was thinking of downshifting and hammering it but he already clocked me and started pulling out before I even passed him. I got off quick at the exit ramp as it was right there (to try to hide) but my yellow sticks out like a sore thumb and he was hot on my tail.

Trooper was really polite and didn't give me any lecture. He showed me his radar gun. Clocked at 102 in a 70mph zone. I should of had to go to court due to the speed but I guess since I was clean he let me off with a $300+ slap on the wrist and a 4 hour online course to keep points from going on my license. I usually never go past 10-15mph above posted unless I'm in a group that is moving fast ahead of me.

Not schweet :(

No not cool, but meh. The troopers have to make their money somewhere.(pffft yeah right) But hey, now you know not to speed there. :) Could have been worse like you said though.

Welcome to the club. I got caught doing 88 in a 45 in March on a trip through the mountains. First ticket I got in this car.

Haha no way, I got caught too around the Channelside area during 4th of July weekend. 87 in a 65 on the i-275 freeway. Ticket was $245, had some plans for a cam, but that opportunity is gone now haha.

Well I think I have a buyer on my GTR's full stock exhaust. So I'm back in the game. I want headers too though, but that will have to wait.

How come you haven't taken any pictures of your 'vette and R together?

Was going to after cars and coffee last weekend but had to take off early, and its been raining a ton in South Florida. I also want to do the pictures from a specific spot near the ocean but I'll do a few quick ones just to post.
