FJ comes in three models, a standard rear-driver with automatic transmission, and two four-wheel-drive versions, with a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic. Two four-wheel- drive options and two types of locking differentials are also available. Powering the FJ is the same 4.0-liter V6 as found in siblings Tacoma, Tundra and 4Runner. The 24-valve VVT-i engine turns out 239 hp at 5200 rpm and 278 lb-ft at 3700 rpm, which is more than adequate to move its 4050-pound curb weight.

Blazin's Note: Well Toyota has decided to make the FJ concept truck a reality for whatever reason. It's capabilities are awesome, but it's ugly as sin I must say. Although I can't say Toyota is boring on this one, not at all. I just wish they would have made it look more, I don't know, look better. It's uglier then the Aztek for god-sakes, but since it sports a Toyota badge it will sell 3x's as many. I'd still go with a Wrangler though.

By the way, this is the orignal Landcruiser, which the FJ is supposed to look like...

Is it ugly? yes. Is it uglier than Aztek, I don't think so.

Instead of choice on RWD or 4WD, I wish there were 5-door model(what you call 4-door hatchback) that you can choose. I had never seen a gray(or silver) one before. Pretty interesting.

It's the front end that gets me, it's to small and squished. It looks like a big Mirco Machiene to be honest. I don't know I just think its ugly as sin, but at least it looks like it will be able to off road fairly well.

And see I don't only create GM threads :P

what the hell does it compete with? A Wrangler? An Element?

Ugly, but managable.

Elements can't go off road at all, I would say Wrangler and possibly the H3. But other then that I don't really know.

Yeah, but have you noticed that even when you do one on a import vehicle, you still don't stray too far from GM? :D

What about the Suzuki Grand Vitara?

I don't really have any knowledge about it, other then the fact that the older ones looked a lot like a Tracker. But looking at the pictures it doesn't really scream off road me like the FJ, Wrangler, and H3.

I would buy one in white just to nullify the contrasting roof.

Lol, it'd still have that panda-scheme though. FJ-Roku.

I forgot to mention my thoughts of this:
Meh. Jeep does this retro thing so much better. No doubt it's a better product than the H3 or Wrangler, but damn is it ugly. Most overstyled car since the Chevy SSR. You'd think that this would look more like the Wrangler anyways, considering how similar the original FJ and CJ looked to each other. In addition, I notice some rather blaring blind spots on this.

I like it. 👍 It looks like it's got great stock off-road ability.

 Fj-Roku!

If you guys wanna call it by the truck's Japanese nickname(like hachiroku), it would be "lankuru". ;)

I think it is easily the best looking and most destictive Toyota in the lineup for 2006. It is surprisingly capable, and pretty easy on the wallet both in price and in fuel economy.

Its probably the only Toyota sold right now that I would ever consider buying (except maybe the Yaris 3-door)...But the Wrangler and H3 would probably be my first thoughts if I were to go looking for a small, capable, sport utility vehicle... Its still better than the Xterra tho...

I liked the concept years ago, I like this one now. If I had the means I would have one for myself.

Lol Jeep? Retro? Keeping the exact same styling with minor cosmetic improvments every couple of years (wrangler) for the entire lifespan of a vehicle isnt exactly what I would call Retro. Reviving a model that hasn't been around for decades, now that is Retro. Oh yeah, big blind spots though for sure. But also nice big side mirrors so blind spots would not really be a problem if you know how to use your mirrors. I dont even have a rear view mirror in my van, just the side mirrors.

Wouldn't surprise me if those sell like hotcakes, especially since the starting msrp are $21.7K for the 4x2 and $22.9K for the 4x4. 👍

I saw one of these on the road on Monday... Pretty damn ugly if I may say so myself. I'm sure they will sell decently because it's a youth-oriented Toyota that old people will buy in a feeble attempt to feel young again.

On a completely different note, I also saw a brand new Saleen Mustang and a Ford GT at a dealership a short time later.

Kinda cute and funny looking
but it really stands out on the street
and those wheels are huge
it will be funny to see a DUB version of it
