If it's a California then it can't be a convertible cause shape of the roof and it wiil be a targa top.

Here a photoshop from Jalopnik on how it would look...........

Looks a little weird.:yuck:

Except for the last California was a hard top convertible with an electric roof. You wouldn't take out just the middle section, you'd take out the middle section and the rear window, that WOULD be a convertible, then. That photoshop would be for a targa top, but the way the roof is sectioned off in the original sketch, I would reckon it's a hard-top convertible.

EDIT: Autocar already mentioned what I just said and that the sketch might be what the final product looks like. Also....it's a California. By definition, it WILL be a convertible.

I have a hard time believing that is any kind of convertible. The C-pillar, roof, and rear part of the roof do not look like they could be part of a foldable system. But, stranger things have happened.

The 'hatch' part does not appear to have a place to fold into. Even if it did, it in conjunction with the theoretical roof section would take up far too much storage space, and we already know Ferrari is rather proud of the cleverness of their folding roof on the 458 and California. My bet is that the section in the roof, the cut line, is referencing a hinge line for a hatchback and that this really is an FF coupe/hatchback or the replacement for the California (remember Ferrari almost never replaces a model with one of the same name) will be offered as a coupe initially or in conjunction with a spider not yet shown.

From Jalopnik.com

Unless Ferrari is really screwing with everyone, this is Ferrari's next one-off, a four-wheel-drive V12 supercoupe called the FFX.

I can't say this is all true, but it doesn't take a lot of brainpower to put this conclusion together.

On October 4th, Ferrari filed these patent drawings showing the car above.
On October 4th, Ferrari filed this patent application for "SP FFX" and an accompanying logo.

These two points need a bit more fleshing out for everything to be clear.

Firstly, the patent drawings could be of the not-yet-debuted 2015 California. Autocar reported as much, and the car has the same three-vent motif as current and past Californias. However, the patent drawings showed the car with Ferrari FF door mirrors, headlights, taillights, and general proportions. It appeared, more than anything else, to be an FF Coupe.

Secondly, SP FFX is a little unclear, but not if you're familiar with Ferrari's one-off naming strategy. The SP stands for Special Projects these days (as opposed to Sports Prototype), Ferrari's in-house coachbuilding division that makes one-of-one customs. So far they've made the F430 SP1, the 612 GTS Pavesi, the Superamerica 45, the P540 Superfast Aperta, Eric Clapton's 458 SP12, and the not-yet-public SP Arya.

I think it's pretty clear what the 'FFX' part means, so SP FFX can really only imply that a special FF is coming. This appears to be that car.

So I'm just going to run down some points of why you should be excited for this car.

It has two transmissions.
It has part-time four-wheel-drive.
It has a front-mounted V12 with more than 6 liters in capacity and more than 650 horsepower. I'll steer clear of actual figures, as Ferrari may modify this particular car.
It has a top speed of over 200 miles an hour.
It doesn't have the FF's hideous grille that looks like a mouthguard.

So there you have it, what is in all likelihood Ferrari's next one-off. It will be one of the weirdest, coolest, rarest cars Ferrari's ever made.

Still, no sure conclusions on what it's all about though.

Those renders could very easily be mistaken for an F12. I briefly had to do a double-take when I saw them.

Ferrari is ruining its brand image (or rather tainting the lineage) by doing these ugly customer projects and shouldnt allow people who don't design cars to design cars!

Ladies and germs say hello to the Ferrari Special Projects FXX...

Oh dear. It's an angry beaver.

I'm not really liking this.

Perhaps if they remove the bucktooth front grille and replace the white accents with black accents, (or if they don't put those on the car at all) it will look better.

I believe the front of the car will look ugly in whatever conditions it's photographed with. As for the rest of the car, I think it could be just the image quality. The color looks too saturated in that picture, making it hard to track the contours of the car, so it's looking a bit like a big, bulky blob of light red.

Even this rendering looks much better.

It doesn't look to bad, I kind of like it.
Only one thing that bothers me is the white on it, it just looks odd. If it was red or black it would look way better.

Wow... That back end looks like it's rocking one of those horrible body kits from NFS Underground...

I had to go to Google to confirm that this was an actual Ferrari project, not some craptastic tuning company's.

What's with the white "fangs" on the front & back? Should have left them red. Actually, should have left everything red besides maybe the carbon fiber. Way too much influence from that 599 Alonso edition.

Kinda tacky. Seems like this was far better on paper then in actual form.

And hilariously, what do we have in the same picture? Ferrari F12, The very car I said it would look too much like.

I think the styling is okay from some angles, but the guy who ordered it should've came up with a better interior color combo that that.
