2013 Middle East General Discussion

Thanks Sems. I realize that you dont use active steering also, thats cool.

So you're in the top 16, you live in UAE?

Yeah I didn't use it as well ,but I think your lap is the most impressive of all the times set .

No I live in Egypt so I don't qualify for the event, was fun taking part though ,hope next time north african countries aside from Lebnan will be eligible .

Good luck in the event

I have no time at all, only spent an hour with 1'32.2 ,1'30 .x has been achieved by very very few people
Good time for an hour driving this track with car. Just was referring to your comment of 1:31 being hard to break into. The global leaderboard from this years GT Academy, breaking into 1:31s would have put you 1424 in leaderboard.

One thing I just noticed was only 85 people entered in the Middle East GT Academy which is surprising and 427 for South Africa one. I would have thought there would be more than that but I guess this shows to Sony, they need to market these areas more.

I think 1:30's is really really hard. Like Sems mentioned very few people in the world have achieved those times. It would take all day practice for 2 weeks to get there and that only happened to a few people.

Goodluck to all.

Going into 1:30's can involve luck too. I didn't spend much time on GT Academy final online event this year due to knowing I'm not prepared for finals but if I got a bit luckily could have got a time in 30's. I think GT aliens can get into 1:30's probably very quickly, probably a few hours or less. I think it would take me three consecutive 10 hour GT Academy days to get to level of being consistent in getting it without involving luck element so much.

It is all in mentality I guess, practice can bridge some of that gap but you need really alien mentality to do the top times. Hope to one day come close to that level. I think it is achievable. My fastest time was done with someone shouting in my ear half way through lap if I recall correctly .

Good luck in finals 👍

I would like to know which elements make you an as fast as the aliens in setting quick fast lap times.

Guessing with wheels like the T500rs and Fanatecs you'd have a better chance, also if you have a comfortable setup(I can't play more than an hour then my back starts to ache),I'd also hazard a guess playing real sims increases your car control abit more.

Anyway out of those 47 in the middle east I know atleast 3 which are egyptians (not eligible)which is surprising as I think Granturismo is popular in the middle east, but maybe with the conflicts most arab nations live with and many ps3 owners opting to hack the console might answer those small numbers.

I think on technical level, very similar. Stringing very fast sectors is hard part. Difference can be like 1-3mph in a corner that costs you quite a lot of lap time. Best sectors can come close to aliens but I think they have slight edge on that department.

T500RS and Fanatec will not help really, probably hinder if anything. I don't have comfortable setup but that would help. I don't think the aliens generally have that good setup. Playing other sims can help with concept of speed but GT5 and watching videos of onboards is enough to understand how to go fast in GT.

Maybe because GT5 is old, people stopped playing it and already with GT Academy 2012 being done earlier, maybe not many people thought there would be one for Middle East or there could be lack of people who play games in Middle East.

Thing about high quality wheels is the fact you have better and more accurate steering input as well as better brakes.

I'd agree that nerves play a big part,I count several times that I had brilliant first sectors only to mess the lap up soon after .

GT5 equalises equipment. I would prefer DFGT than T500RS due to pedals responding quicker for TTs.

really? that is interesting ,I for one always thought a better wheel/pedal would make a difference, having said that I always drive with a G25 only tried a DFGT for about 10 minutes.

but the DFGT pedals were causing problems for me felt better brake control with the G25 pedals that is for sure.

Thanks Sems. Hopefully there will be a GT Academy for North Africa region. In the middle east there aren't many people playing GT5 seriously. Im hoping this will increase over time and will see how GT5 helps improve real driving.

Anyone in the top 16 receive an email yet? I know the regionals will be held 10-12 Jan during the Dubai 24hrs. We are getting close

when i read the terms and conditions - very carefully - , they mentioned that the deadline for registration is december 31, yet the registration form is closed, i sent a message through the facebook page gt academy to inform them about this and i have not received any answer about this case

I felt the GT Academy Force feedback algorithm have made all the steering wheels feel the same. the T500RS feels like DFGT. accuracy is reduced whereas in GT5 the T500RS is VERY accurate compared to the DFGT. I guess this is to make it fair for everyone competing in GTA.

I still haven't gotten a mail from GT Academy. I guess we have to wait till the end of the month.

It also depends on user preference too. Something like G25 or G27 is similar to DFGT and all three should be just as fast, maybe easier to be fast on G25 or G27 due to pedals being better. Problem with T500RS pedals is initial deadzone, you still should be able to drive fast on it if you overcome any limitations, probably a tenth or two in it if you don't adjust. I might get a T500RS due to it being the wheel used in UK National Finals.

Don't know about that as I don't have T500RS, but from memory GT Academy 2012, FFB felt as good as DFGT with G27 and later with GT5 update it felt as good as GT Academy.

If you have money I would highly recommend it,such a beautiful wheel and that shifter as well

I think gaming, fitness test, and real driving
Oh that should be fun indeed
Great news :) How's that ?
Did you get my FB message ???

I recieved my Winners mail so I replied saying I am an Egyptian and will I be allowed to enter, and they replied saying yes and that they are aware of that and they want to cover my travel expenses .

I am not 21 though which seems to be the only issue left ,although I find that odd as I already have a driving license and you don't have to be 21 as far as I know to be eligible for a racing license .

Oh we ah 3amltelak accept m8 👍

does this mean that even though you're not a resident in one of the gulf countries or lebanon, you are allowed to participate? if so then this is good news , but could you tell me how you filled your address information in both your UAE account and in the GT registration form? given that in the PSN account with the country UAE, you can't fill in egyptian addresses, only UAE addresses
I'll appreciate your advice.

UAE PSN account details were obviously fake (I filled the street name with mickey mouse street)

the form for the GT academy on the website I stated I was Egyptian.

SO after I got the mail I sent them an email stating I was living in Egypt so that they don't count me in the finalists but they said that they are aware and it is no problem.
