Looks like Redding may have a fractured wrist thanks to his quali off, which would be a pity.

It also looks like the MotoGP race may be shortened due to the massive tyre deg everyone is experiencing :ouch:.

The new track surface mate. The Moto 2 race has been shortened from 26 laps to 13 so Dunlop have their own problems. No idea what's going on with the Moto 3.
Back to Scott Redding, he has been declared unfit to ride and given Espargaro won the race last year by about 6 weeks it could be championship between the 2 Pons riders.

Race distance will be 26 laps (previously 27), and no rider is permitted to make more than 14 laps on any one slick rear tyre. This means a procession of bikes will enter the pits at the end of lap 13 and 14, expecting every team to split their riders between them.

At least they took precautions marking a clear pit exit to rejoin the track, with penalty for violators, and extended pit lane speed limited zone.

Hope all goes well...

Controversy!

MM either ignored his pitboard to come in on lap 9 and 10 and stayed out on the tyres 1 lap too long - result - DQ! Unbelievable!

Almost as tight was MM drifting into the racing line on turn 1 after his stop, right into the natural line of JL steaming down the track - glad to see Jorge taking no prisoners and giving MM some of his own medicine and pushing MM out the way.

Moto3 was another epic scrap - the title fight is still alive for Rins, but not Vinales although he can still play a part in deciding where it goes!

Well, a bit of an eventful race. I can't say I agree with the severity of the penalties given to Marquez, Staring and Cudlin, especially considering how light the penalty for pit lane speeding was, but rules are rules.

Yea, I think Pedrosa got off lightly with a 1 position drop - in any other motorsport, that would have been a drive through.

They thougt end of lap eleven was ok to pit. How can they misread the rule. It was pretty clear... And they knew the consequencies.

Valiant effort for Lorenzo, deserved the mostly unchalenged win.

All in all it was a mess for the riders never quite knowing what pace to go, with those very small stints and shredding tyres. Please don't let this happen again!

All I can say as a Lorenzo fan, its nice to see the championship heading into overtime. If anything Marquez's coronation have all but halted for now.

Some of the best racing that we've seen all year at Phillip Island I think. Moto3 was glorious, Moto2 was very good and I was glad to see Luthi and West being competitive as well.

I think that the pitstops in MotoGP added a level of excitement and uncertainty that we've not seen all year and I did enjoy it. Shame to see Marquez make a horlicks of it however.

During. He ended up having to give up a position to Marquez.

It looked more like Pedrosa got passed instead of giving it up.

Interesting race even if it was a total shambles.

Marquez had the best bike transfer though, like a ballerina.:D

He was like a ninja, the other riders should have practiced something like that because it looked like the fastest way.

The penalty for speeding is a ride through, Pedrosa crossed the white line at the pit exit.
I do think they extended the pit exit speed limit too far though. Having guys battling on the pit exit is nowhere near as dangerous as what happened between Marquez and Lorenzo.

Yep you are correct. I thought the commentator's were saying that the organisers had moved the start of the pit lane speed limit further up the pitlane towards the track, due to the increased activity in the pitlane - and he forgot and pulled up at the old speed limiter line.

In F1 though, crossing the white line is also a drive through ;).

Regardless, I think pit stops are best left to other forms of motorsports, and it was all a bit of a fiasco.

Tough ride for Marc...kid has been on fire though! I don't see him losing the championship.

I can't get over that he is my age, 20, and is racing in the highest level of motorcycle racing. I started watching this season after I watched Fastest on Netflix. Went in cheering for Rossi, came out cheering for Marquez

Also saw this on FB earlier, shortly after the race:

^Holy crap.

Better than Lorenzo's stop.

If they had placed the bikes close enough he could do a counter clockwise turn, put his left foot on the left peg of the new bike, and continue the spin onto the seat and right peg.

All without touching the ground.:dopey:

Why were the tyres getting torn up so much and the race distance reduced, was it the new surface that caused the issues?

Yeah, that's what they said.

Too much stress on the tires, and they couldn't get enough heat into the harder compound.

The one-position drop is a wildly inconsistent way to apply a penalty. If Marquez wasn't in the race at that stage, Pedrosa would've had to drop six seconds to allow the next rider to pass him. That said, a drive-through in motoGP might as well be a DQ, especially if it's only a 30-minute race.

It's now the 23rd October in the UK, which means that it has sadly been two years since we tragically lost Marco Simoncelli.

Wow. This t-shirt has generated quite the media outrage.

I couldn't see what was wrong until I searched and found some people saying it's racist. Still don't see it.

You're kidding, right? It's like they guy who showed up to an F1 GP with his face blackened to "resemble" Hamilton. Although I'm sure the intent was different.

No. I see no racism in any such act.

Racism to me is using differences to _mock_ or in any way negatively reffer to someone.

If I need to refer to a friend in a crowd as the "that black guy over there" I will, the same way that if I was in Motegi, I'd probably reffer to a friend as "the white guy in that group", or "the tall one" or the fat one. Why not?

I see no racism in that, and none here. It's like using a huge wig (#58) or someone dressing up as Asimo (#26). Using specific charecteristics to connect to them.

Racism is in people's heads. Not just racist people, but in the head of those that feel the need to prove (sometimes to themseves) that they are not racists or feel the world is against them because race, or simply to sell views.

(Not refering to you, I don't know you that well, just expressing a general view 👍 )

Surely wasn't on their mind (or they wouldn't have printed them!), and printing this was surelly not made to mock anyone, but to somehow dedicate the race to a speciffic group. A plain sentence saying it would not be "funny". Which I believe it still isn't anyway...

At the very least, it's a bit insensitive to Japanese / Asians who have for decades been stereotyped based on the look of their eyes.

MM should just be keeping his head down and focused on the job, not trying to be a Rossi in the media - he clearly is a bit ham fisted at it.

Anyway, Spies has announced his retirement from all motorcycle racing, over concerns for his long term health. A big shame that such a talent didn't quite meet it's potential, but as long he gets his health back, that is the important thing.
