Also on the note of anyone going to the first round, particularly the Sunday, if there's anyone available around the Sussex area who is going and would be kind enough to offer a car share then let me know. M and my brother are trying to find the best way of getting there.

Really looking forward to this season, my local track is Croft so will hopefully be there this year. I lost track of last season somewhat and went to watch the bikes at Olivers Mount which was the same day.

I think some of you have missed Clark's point slightly.

As I understand it he wasn't saying it would be 4WD and given how I know he follows the championship quite closely don't believe he would think 4WD would be allowed.

I think the point was that given that both of these cars come in different configurations (FF and 4WD). Would either team try to use the same argument as the A4's to gain the RWD startline traction advantage by claiming that the base model they were using was the 4WD version.

No, I understood his point and I explained why the RWD for the A4. Maybe you should understand my point.

RWD was not an option for the S3. It was only an option for the A4 because allegedly that was the only way the drivetrain/gearbox would fit.

Not to mention that apparently Audi weren't interested in offering any factory support to Austin because of the RWD thing. Rotek are apparently getting some small Audi backing..so they have another reason to be going FWD.
(Audi backing mentioned here:
http://www.touringcartimes.com/2014/01/13/robb-holland-hopes-for-greater-audi-involvement-in-btcc/
)

Its explained by Alan Gow here:
http://www.btccforum.net/forum/showthread.php?9976-Rear-wheel-drive

So, the A4 is not "RWD by claiming to be the 4WD version", its a special case to do with the transmission/drivetrain layout. Something that the S3 does not suffer from I would assume.

Forget about 4WD, none of this is to do with 4WD. This is why I re-iterated that the rules simply do not allow 4WD.

It's RWD because that was Rob's preference. He's not a FWD fan.

Ardius is right:

The fact that the Audi will run in rear-wheel drive had been questioned due to the NGTC rules stating that cars should run with the same drive-train layout as the production models they are based on – with the A4 being available in either front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

However, in answer to a question posted on his official forum, series boss Alan Gow said that the layout of the mechanicals in the Audi was the reason why it was being permitted to run with rear-wheel drive.

“It's simply an anomaly of the specific engine/gearbox layout of an Audi,” he wrote. “The cars must retain their original engine/transmission orientation and use the NGTC specified gearbox - there is one for front wheel drive cars (i.e. transverse mounted) and one for rear wheel drive (i.e longitudinally mounted).

“However the A4 does not have a transverse engine/gearbox like other front-wheel drive cars - its engine/gearbox sits longitudinally like rear-wheel drive cars - so it obviously can't use the transverse front-drive gearbox and therefore must use the rear-drive one.

That's a quote from Alan Gow not Rob Austin and it was possible as they do make FWD A4's with that set up

Just got a list of the Knockhill changes.

The changes are:-

· The Hairpin is being widened on the inside and the extended run off gravel area means the Marshals post is now by the car park track.

· The entry to the Chicane has the sausage kerb removed completely on the left (outside). Only one sausage kerb remains on the inside at the exit.

· The entry lane to the pits has been extended down towards the hairpin and appears to narrow the track. This may be an illusion but there is more green concrete added on the outside edge of the track.

· After Clarks, the inside earth banking has been moved away from the track and opens up the view down railway straight.

· The reason for the works is to allow the Superbikes to run in reverse direction but will also change the conventional clockwise track.

Robb Holland and the Audi... Dug this up, may have been posted before but his comments about changing the driveline of the cars...

Just for the record Rob (Austin) is one of my favorite people in and out of the BTCC. Had a great time hanging with him at the Autosport show this weekend.

That being said
1) Rotek have never claimed any real Audi backing. Chassis and some basic tech stuff is the extent of Audi's involvement. What was said is that it would be great to get Audi back in the series.

2) The A3/S3 is Audis newest model and fits with what we believe will best make a competitive car in the series. Additionally the series has a new rule against changing the driveline layout of a car so a newly built RWD A4 was not an option even if we wanted it to be so

3) Rob and I have chatted about working together but we're not sure how that would work but that doesn't mean that it won't or can't happen. 3 Audis on the grid is better than 1 or 2 on the grid

4) I'm not exactly sure how you marginalize Rob Austin he's kind of like a force of nature.

If you don't think Rob and I can work together see the below picture. Which also serves as a warning as to why you don't fall asleep in a bar with a bunch of BTCC drivers hanging about.

Cheers!

So, is there a way for us in the colonies to watch this season somewhere? I could catch the 2013 races a week later or so on Youtube, but seeing them live would be much more interesting.

You can stream itv4 online, i'm not sure how that would work depending on where you were in the world though...

I have seen them very occasionally on One HD in Australia, but not live.

I'll PM you ;)

So BMW just posted this on Facebook...

What I find interesting is that they suggest the engine is production based... I thought WSR bought the NGTC engines in a crate from someone.

Here we go then, P1:

Red flag with 21 minutes to go due to an incident in the pitlane.

EDIT - Mechanic involved, medics on the scene.

Appears to have involved a WSR team member, updates on the way...

UPDATE - Session restarted. Team member transferred to an ambulance.

The MG being fast at BHI is becoming a trend now. Made it's debut and got 2 podiums and a 4th in 2012. 2013 it gets 2 wins and a 5th and it's currently fastest in this session now.

Also now I've seen the livery alongside the Pirtek car it doesn't look too bad now.
