Just sayin is all. :P

So Ford goes and builds this awesome car that seems to be able to keep up with the best of the segment. And the only engine is an NA 2.0 I4? Nothing really against small NA engines, but I feel like this segment should be adopting the idea of smaller turbo engines, at least to be advanced and hopefully for fuel efficiency. Put a 1.6 Ecoboost in there instead or in addition to the 2.0 and this would be a sweet car. Probably even better than the Golf in my book.

That ST is amazing though. And I'm glad we don't get those stupid LED eyelids here.

There's a new 2.0, but there's no word whether it'll be the only engine choice.

Unlike the US, where a compact needs 2.5 liters just to "cut it", the rest of the world views 2 liters as the biggest you can logically go with a non-sports variant compact... The word for a long time has been that Ford is dropping the 2.5 and sticking with a 2 liter car.

The one thing I'd worry about is suspension tuning. From reviews Stateside, it appears the Euro-type suspension isn't on the new Fiesta... it might be that they will still detune the Focus for the US market... though Ford promises that the new Focus will outdrive the Cruze (not hard to out-accelerate one.. but the Cruze's handling is pretty darn decent).

BOOM!

A 247 BHP EcoBoost ST will be available. Apparently for about $27K USD. There is a new fancy torque-vectoring system on the front wheels as well. Apparently the trim picks up where the Titanium levels leave off, plus extra-fancy Recaro seats. Schweet.

$27k? I was really hoping (praying) for around $24k to start for the ST. Offer me a stripper model with no luxuries for my $24k. I might pass on getting an ST because for $29k MSRP I can get a '11 5.0 GT or for $22k I can get a base '11 V6 with a manual transmission then add $1,995 for the V6 performance package with all the SVT handling bits and better gearing for acceleration at just under $25k. Sorry, I LOVE this ST but for that money I'd rather take a V6 Mustang with the go fast goodies and RWD.
ST. Win. That car is finally going to make the U.S. Focus what it should be, not what it has been, which is a vanilla-y compact at best.

My SVT is not vanilla. :(

Seconded. I'd get a Genesis before I'd get this as well.

+1. The Genesis is also a strong contender for my next car. The Mustang just might edge ahead just because I love them. ;) Biased? Yes. :sly:

I'm willing to bet that Ford will make the ST run as hard as the Pony-Packed Mustang. I'd probably be more likely to opt for the ST based on the fact that it was different, but the jury is still out on pricing. I'd seem more likely to walk it back a little bit, just to square it up a little better against the GTI and Mazdaspeed3.

I'd rather save some $$ and get the GTI. Or save even more money and just buy a V6 Mustang and or Genesis.

That's something I forgot about. 6-7 grand more than the GTi/MS3 is... quite a lot, actually.

Base GTI and base MS3 are both right around the $23.5 mark so it's not $6-7k.
Either way, have there been pictures of the 3dr ST? The 5dr to me just looks awful. Never liked 5dr hatchbacks that are marketed as "sporty".

I like the ST but I'm afraid I can't see a way to justify that price tag. Not when the V6 Mustang has 300hp, a 6-speed manual, and a limited slip diff for very noticeably less money.

A Mazdaspeed 3 seems to be the way to go over it for a hot hatch despite the problems it has (which, conveniently, the simplest fixes for result in more power as well)...

Don't worry, I can't justify the American prize tags either. It really is a borderline crime to pay less for a V6 Mustang than we do for a base model Kia Cee'd. :P

I prefer the current one tbh, the front doesn't look too bad but it doesn't look that great either but I'm not liking the back end of this one, those rear lights look horrendous.

That's why they'll probably decide at the last minute not to let the U.S. have it...

I hope not. My guess is that Ford will tweak the price a bit, probably making the US version a little cheaper than what the rest of the world has to pay... All because of that damn Mustang.

You can bet I'll be all over this thing once it arrives early next year.

Seems like they could be like Hyundai and make a stripped down version of the ST for cheap. Give it all the same stuff as the base model, except use the ST engine and suspension.

"All because of that damn Mustang." Ford makes tons of money on the Mustang. I don't think it is a bad thing that Ford's got it set in a cheap price bracket. $22k MSRP for a V6 Mustang with a 6spd manual and 300+bhp is an outstanding deal. Yes the Focus ST will suffer, but that's Ford's fault for stuffing it full of luxuries and not offering a stripper "track" oriented model. Give me the ST with NO technology minus power windows and locks and sell it to me for $22k and let's talk. :D I don't care about Sync, a billion speaker radio or even leather. Just, car + power - weight/luxuries.

The problem with that idea is that the competition offers all sorts of those luxuries while still being relatively cheap.

This may be true but the interior and overall build quality will not match to what's in the Focus. Honestly, what gets passed for interiors these days is horrendous. The fit and finish of the Focus is superior to most of the competition. Just my opinion.

Have you been in the U.S. spec of this new one yet?

Me either. Ford's been on a roll, but let's wait 'till we get it. Even the best country bands hit a few clinkers.

It should be on par or above the fiesta which is rather nice on the inside.

This is exactly what I'm basing it on. The Fiesta is fantastic on the inside. I've been in $40k cars that didn't have as much of a quality feel inside as the Fiesta does. The Focus should be slightly better no?

I'd like to see what the interior feels/looks like after some wear and tear. I still get a bad taste in my mouth every time I'm in a Ford.

Thats why you don't lick the car. :sly:

You know I'm joking.

For me Ford is a good American car company... well since recently haha. But my father owns a F150 1999 and it still works today... but does have low mileage on it of only 75k. Only thing we had to replace is the Right door switch for auto windows. Other then that the interior still is in one peace, even tho its a work truck on some weekdays and most weekends.

Like my father says,
Does not matter what kind of car is it or who made it, it matters if you get lucky or not. But some cars are more lucky over the other ones

Considering this is what we have now:

Then yes, you are probably right. :P

Actually, I prefer the current model. I think the 2012 looks hideous. It looks like it's already been in a accident, which, I suppose is nice, 'cause, if you get in an accident in it, you could still drive it around and no one would be the wiser.

But, in reality, I like the first and second gen Focus over these new ones. I mean, I guess they're trying to make it the compact Tourus, but...the other compact Tourus's were a lot better. The Contour was a precursor to the Focus, and I like it's looks better than the Focus.

$27,000 is cheap... this car will cost the equivalent of over $30,000 in Europe.

How do Ford make money if they sell Mustangs for $22,000... unless the quality is paired back to Korean levels?
