The interior shot shows an auto box. I'd guess it must be the US version.
Touche! My coworker says that he read that something like just over 5% of new vehicles sold in the States will have manual trans. Very sad!

Whoops. "Sport Compact."

Honda's supposed to be doing a new Si, hopefully we'll get a properly sorted Turbo Cruze, and maybe Fiat will give Dodge the goods to make a decent SRT-4 successor.

I hope.
247 isn't amazing, and I don't know anything about this new Hyundai Omnis speaks of, but Honda's been really, really underwhelming as of late(lazy). I take that back, they never really wow'd us in the horsepower department.

That fish homeforsummer posted is ugly, but I think the new ST looks pretty good. I don't mind it.

I reckon 247 is just about right. After all, the RS is the heavy hitter. No, this isn't as powerful as a Speed 3 but it's way more powerful than a GTI. Lets just hope it's got proper handling credentials because the soon-to-be defunct Cobalt SS is a force to be reckoned with on the track, it being better than the GTI or Speed 3.

So for the next RS lets give that thing proper AWD and make it worthy of its WRC brethren. Make it a real STi and Evo competitor.

The Focus ST: GOIN' GLOBAL

Boom! It appears as though Ford is jamming a 2.0L EcoBoost I4 under the hood, good for 247 BHP, and letting you row the gears yourself. No real amazing details other than being able to see it and know about the engine, my guess would be some of the RS kit will make the transition. Probably.

Let us hope that this is the opening salvo in a big subcompact sport compact battle here in the US. GM, Chrysler-Fiat... You're on notice.

I saw this today at work and was like "OMG I WANT". I love it, front mouth and all. I see this sucking up children playing in the street as you drive by. :D I will trade my SVT Focus in for one once it's paid off if I cannot find a Terminator Cobra in my price range. The prices for a base ST will probably be somewhere around $26k. I love that interior, and those seats!

And guys, 247bhp in a FWD car is plenty enough. I just don't want torque-steer--any more power and you can count on some torque-steer. If it weighs less than 3,000lbs and has this kind of power and options I'm sold 100%. I don't understand why people are not excited, no really I don't. It's a quality affordable product with some power and some nice kit. If you don't like the mouth buy one in black or a really dark color. :sly:

The thing that irritates me most about the gaping mouth is that it's so easy to not make an ugly car. Difficult to make a beautiful one, but easy not to make it ugly. And yet so many manufacturers don't seem to get it. The Euro-market Focus is really bland but at least it's not hideous.

This is what I don't get. Particularly as the pictures they released for the standard model show a fairly inoffensive front end:

...so where'd that mouth come from?

Wow, the standard front end is sporty looking enough IMO. I can also see where they thought they need something even more over the top to set it apart from the standard model.

They took the vertical things out...

Ah, now that someone's refreshed my memory with the normal model, I realize what I don't like about the ST; the lack of a proper grille. It's got that huge gaping bumper intake, but the nose is smoothed over.

Call me crazy, but I'd rather the ST's mill in that exact red 5 door.

The only thing I'm worried about is Ford getting a little too crazy with the sticker/vinyl kits on the ST like they already have with the Fiesta. And the Mustang. And the Raptor.

I'm interesting in the curb weight as well. In relation to the Cruze and Astra, I imagine the GM cars are much heavier.

Depends, I think it's fair to say that the Opel developed stuff is built like a tank, but being a Daewoo seems to be to the Cruze's advantage on the weight front.

Cruze kerb weight: 1285kg
Astra kerb weight: 1578kg

Both for 1.6 petrols - pretty significant difference there.

Thankfully they're optional. Don't date the girl if you don't like her horrible taste in Fiesta graphics, that's all.

YSSMAN, if you think Ford's bad with vinyls, you should see FIAT UK's website. You can get a ton of stickers for your 500 or Punto. Many of them quite questionable.

I still can't believe how heavy the modern Opels are (Insignia and Astra). The VXR 'Sig, in wagon form, is hovering around the 2-ton mark, and the Astra manages to be heavier than most cars a size up. What, in their desire to catch up to the rest of the German competition on apparent "quality", have they been lining everything in solid iron? Is there some heavy-duty safe located onboard somewhere?

That said, the Cruze probably won't be so light when it's being sold here. An engineer mentions it should hover between 3125 and 3375 pounds, which seems pretty portly for a compact class car, until I remember that A) It's getting pretty big to be considered compact, and B) most of the class is hitting 3000lbs now too :(.

Well, seems we wont be the only American country getting the euro Focus anymore. Oh well... stuff like that only lasts so much. Enjoy people, the car is damn good.

The MKV GTI is 3100 pounds. It's getting to be that that's pretty normal for the compact class I think.

My mom's old '06 Escape 2.3/5sp 2WD was 3200 pounds. The fact a 2 door hatchback weighs so much more amazes me, and even the 04 Mustang here too

Any info on US prcing of the 2012 Ford Focus Lineups?

I would either buy this or the Fiesta, depending on prices. Unless Ill go with Nissan.

I'm dying to find out how much a "base" ST will cost MSRP. Once the pricing hits the dealer network I can get my D-plan employee price on it. :D

Almost more important than all of that is how it drives, and that is what I'm excited about most of all. I just hope and pray it isn't a large fat pig...

This does create an interesting dilemma; how close together are the V6 Mustang and Focus ST going to sit, price-wise? I'm looking at the Focus' nearest cousin, the Mazdaspeed3, as a hint, and I admit that while they'd generally appeal to different people, I know I for one would cross-shop both, and endlessly try to decide if the functionality benefits of the Focus can outweigh the right-wheel-drive and power of the Mustang...

What You Need to Know:
  • The European and American models will pretty much be the same (YAY!)
  • Americans will get a Hatchback (5DR) and Sedan. Europe will get a Wagon.
  • S, SE, SEL and Titanium trim levels will show up. S will only be available on the sedan, Titanium will pack in A LOT of extra goodies
  • There is a new 2.0L 158 BHP I4 to be offered, and it can be matched with Powershift

BOOM!

A 247 BHP EcoBoost ST will be available. Apparently for about $27K USD. There is a new fancy torque-vectoring system on the front wheels as well. Apparently the trim picks up where the Titanium levels leave off, plus extra-fancy Recaro seats. Schweet.

The ST, I want it. Even if it does have an Aston Martin grill. It's like a bigger, more practical Cooper S.

I'd get a Focus wagon just to avoid the fugly tails. Now if only we could cover that airdam completely.

ST. Win. That car is finally going to make the U.S. Focus what it should be, not what it has been, which is a vanilla-y compact at best.
