I feel like if we ran with weather, teams could run for three hours of full rain and lose a whole lot of time to teams that only run with 2 and a half hours

8/6 Event Updates

1 - Entry List

The Entry List has now been updated. I am pleased to announce that all Reserve Entries (as of 7/6) have been promoted to full entries.

I can also confirm that teams may now field up to 4 drivers.

2 - Class Entry Limits

In order to ensure a level of competition for our entrants, there will be a limit on the number of entries to each class.

Currently only new LM GT entries will be accepted.

3 - Balance of Performance

One of the aims of this event is to attract a diverse grid, with teams choosing cars their identify with or like, rather than which one is quickest out of the box.

In order to ensure a fair race, cars performance will be balanced (BoP).

BoP comprises of various adjustments made to a car’s limits in order to limit or enhance its raw performance, so that it can compete with other cars that may originate vastly different concepts, in this case; Power (BHP) and Weight (kg).

Balancing racing cars for short sprint races may simply mean making them all achieve the same lap time, but with endurance racing there are many other factors, such as; fuel consumption, tyre wear, and track type.

Extensive testing of many eligible cars and all of those that have been chosen so far has been conducted, this includes a fair amount of math, race simulation, and extrapolation.

I don’t want to mess people around with this, so I plan to publish the BoP Tables once, and once only. In order to achieve this, and get it right first time so Teams have as much time as posable to test, we need those team that have not decided on cars to do so ASAP.

Data from the 6 Hours of Silverstone & 6 Heures de Spa-Francochamps may also be considered, with the caveat that the tracks have different characteristics, and that BoP should never penalise driver skill.

4 - Network vs Local teams

Local teams do not need to leave the track or the lobby when they change drivers.

Due to this it could be considered that they have a considerable advantage.

This if off set by the fact that Network Teams do not need to wait for new tyres and a tank of fuel when changing drivers.

Getting out and then into a sim rig isn’t perhaps as quick as you may think!

The two prologue events (Silverstone & Spa) will be a good yard stick, If after these events it is still felt that there is a significant advantage to Local Teams, we can use a small twist of BoP to tune this.

Remember that it was a Network Team that won the Bathurst Event.

5 - Ferrari FXX

Having had a second look at this car, It doesn’t really fit into LM GT+.

If anyone really wants to run it, they still can, but in LM P1.

6 - BMW M3 GT/GT2

Again, having looked at these cars again, they belong in LM GT.

7 - Team Manager and Driver Briefings

Team Manager Briefings will be conducted by class via GTP mail.

Driver Briefing Posts will be made on this thread with all competitors tagged.

i am going to conduct a weather test, time progress set to 1, weather change set to 1, start weather set to 70% ( to ensure that it rains), road surface set to 0% at start....ill leave the lobby open for a few hours and post the details, (*** this test will not be done today***) , keep in mind that after the initial weather change it will change at random, so i shouldnt get the exact same results everytime.

If the weather wasn't broken then a 24hr race without changeable weather is kinda pointless... its like an omelette without eggs!
It's kinda broken... I even reset my own room with 100% weater with 0 changeability and it stayed sunny.

please explain....there are 2 of the same car on the entry chart, i thought base models could be duplicated but not regular cars unless for example Z06 & ZR1

Extensive testing has already been done. Weather is broken.

Yeah weather was good at launch, got broken in some update in february/march or something like that. Hope they realise and fix it soon again.
I would like to step in here, the FGTA have tested the weather on various time changes (inc. 1) and the weather is not so much the issue (rain will come and go as should) the issue is the surface water %. As soon as the surface water starts to rise, it will go up by about 1% every second, this means you could pass the pit lane with it raining a little, but 0% surface water, but by the time you get to the end of the lap the surface water will be at 100% and undriveable as you would still be on RS.

From the WEC race at Le Mans this weekend for example, I stated a lap at 0%, went to 1% about half way down the Mulssanne, was above 80% by the time I got to the pit's, and I was lucky to be the leader, for the rest it was worse as they had further to go on the wet track and slick tires, by the time we all got back out the pit's I had close to a 1 min gap (up from about 20 sec).

So in short, use weather at your own peril, it will ruin someones race, maybe everyone's.

Yeah that is what I meant. Surface water increase far too quickly. And at Le Mans you have a lap of nearly 4 minutes, especially when it's raining, so an increase of 1% per second means you could be stuck on RS in 100% for over half a lap.. That half a lap will probably take up to 15 minutes because even the straights are nearly impossible with slicks in 100%.

@Player 1 Concrete Climax Racing would like to select the Oreca Audi R8 '05 to run in the LMP class. Also Chozza_32 will be unable to attend so will be running with only three drivers.

Wow really? I did not expect the FXX to be that fast. Probably should try it out sometime. :P

Seeing some interesting diversity in the GT class.. interesting to see how that turns out.

That was the car we were testing. Ran a 3:31 with basic suspension adjustments. It has 100/150 unadjustable aero, so it'll go over 220 mph in a draft, but that also means it's hard to control in the corners.

I had it go past 250 in an unlimited room, and it tops out at 333 mph with the right tune at SSRX. It's a crazy car.

Do you know what kind of lap times it will do round le mans? Should be losing some time in the corners.

I averaged 3:33/3:34's with it. Pretty sure the 31 was dirty/I wasn't being as careful that lap.

just did a test...it took 90 minutes for the road surface to reach 100% , 3 hours later and no change, still 100% road surface, it never quit raining, i also never saw it rain softer or harder...

9/6 Event Updates

1 - Balance of Performance (BoP)

I expect there to be a global reduction in max BHP of around 10%, which will be confirmed with the publication of the BoP table.

2 - Weather

I stated a lap at 0%, went to 1% about half way down the Mulssanne, was above 80% by the time I got to the pit's, and I was lucky to be the leader, for the rest it was worse as they had further to go on the wet track and slick tires, by the time we all got back out the pit's I had close to a 1 min gap (up from about 20 sec).

That sounds pretty realistic to me.

I’ve noticed that the rain starts before the saturation increases, and the saturation decreases, before the rain stops, which is a good bit of advance notice. Haven’t managed to get it to rain in a 1x time lobby yet though.

3 - Clarification on Network Team Driver changes

6 - DRIVER 2 enters Lobby.

7 - DRIVER 2 selects his car and joins the track.

8 - DRIVER 2 takes digital photograph of entire screen (or screen capture).

9 - DRIVER 2 leaves the pits.

1 - DRIVER X enters the Pits.

2 - DRIVER X dismisses Pit Stop Options menu.

3 - DRIVER X takes digital photograph of entire screen (or screen capture).

4 - Car is stationary for PIT STOP.

5 - DRIVER X leaves the pits.

1 - DRIVER X enters the pits.

4 - Revised Lobby settings

Confirmation of Practice mode rather than Free Run, and ‘real’ slipstream strength.

5 - Track Limits & Advisories

This will be finalised for the Drivers Briefing but I would like to start the conversation now.

We will not have automatic penalties, so this will be self and peer policed. IMO the penalties dished out by PD are too harsh, and do not allow the running of real lines.

Below is what I think is a good staring point, I look forward to hearing your views;

PIT IN

a - make it obvious that you are entering the pits, do not cross from the left side of the track at the last minute if other cars are close to you.

b - crossing the white line on the left, once you are in Pit Lane is permitted.

c - bouncing across the grass is not permitted.

d - if you are following a car into the pits, keep your distance, they may brake at a different place to you, particularly if they are in a lower class.

PIT OUT

a - crossing the white line is only permitted if there are no other cars on Start/Finish, exiting the Pits in front of you, or exiting the Pits behind you.

DUNLOP CURVE

a - no advisories

DUNLOP CHICANE

a - attacking the baguettes on the left is permitted.

b - attacking the baguettes on the right is permitted.

c - placing any part of the car ON blue track is not permitted.

d - an exception to ‘c’ would be slowing down and letting a car through.

ESSES

a - attacking the white line at the exit of the ESSES is permitted.

TETE ROUGE

a - attacking the baguettes on the right is permitted.

b - see picture for prohibited area.

PLAYSTATION CHICANE

a - see picture for prohibited area.

b - weaving through the tyre barriers is permitted, caution when rejoining the track, keep to the left.

MICHELIN CHICANE

a - see picture for prohibited area.

b - weaving through the tyre barriers is permitted, caution when rejoining the track, keep to the right.

MULSANNE CORNER

a - widening the corner using the run off to the left is permitted.

b - mounting the inside curb is not permitted.

c - this is going to be a contentious passing/lapping zone.

INDIANAPOLIS

a - If using the inside run off, give way when rejoining the track

ARNARGE

a - no advisories

PORSCHE CURVES

a - If you are lapping another car, wait until you are through, you will lose time trying.

FORD CHICANES

a - attacking the first chicane is permitted.

b - attacking the baguettes on the left at the second chicane is permitted.

c - cutting the left of the second chicane is not permitted, see picture.

d - attacking the right of the second chicane is permitted.

e - placing any part of the car PAST blue track is not permitted, see picture.

Interesting, rain might be ok.. we'll just have to be really careful if we're caught out on slicks and it rains hard.
