Just ran a 1:03.766 with a DS3 and currently sat 375th.

The most annoying part is that last turn where I lost 2 tenths on what would have been a sub .500 lap which would have put me inside the top 100.

Only if you make it to race camp.
That is the most backwards thing I've read in a while.
Let's stop the best people from trying again after they've had a couple years to get even better.

So if you've advanced far in previous years, you're no longer eligible?
Previous Race Camp finalists have never been eligible.

However... It may be the case that ANZ competitors who were previously in the 2010 Europe Race Camp may be eligible for the 2014 International Race Camp as it's technically a different competition...

I've never kept up with GTA. That rule is just strange to me. You would think the pro teams would want the best talent to win. If you make it that far one year, chances are the additional years of practice would help you get further...

Maybe I'm confused about something. Is the RACE CAMP what they show on the GTA TV show or is it the camp you go to after you've advanced from the televised comp?

Race Camp means you made it to Silverstone (TV show), where you spend a week whittling down to the winner.

They're not just looking for people who can drive - though it helps. It could be argued that Jann wasn't the most able driver even in the UK group during the 2011 competition, not that you'd know it now!

I know what you mean though - but it could be argued that by making it a one chance deal they get the guy who will take that chance. That's probably one of the two most important qualities they look for.

Race Camp is what you'll have seen on TV - or at least the US Race Camp.

The competition goes:
Online qualifier/Wildcard events - Everyone eligible whittled down to 30ish qualifiers from each competing nation (can't remember how the US one works - 6ish from each subregion?)
National Final - 30ish qualifiers whittled down to 6 or fewer qualifiers from each competing nation (err... however many for the USA cut to 16, I think)
Race Camp - 30ish qualifiers from all combined nations in each region whittled down to 1 winner

After race camp the winner goes through the 3 month Nissan Driver Development Program, including a couple of months progressing through British club level racing to get enough signatures to gain their race licences, then they get their final prize - which has always been a race at the Dubai 24hr to date (except Salman and Ashley, whose final prize was a race at the Silverstone 24hr, though they also raced Dubai this year) before they progress to being Nismo Athletes (or don't - see Lars Schlommer).

I know, but the other rounds will have a bad handling Nissan aswell, the 370z or the GTR. I dont know in real life but in the game these are heavy understeering cars that are awful to drive in my opinion.

Yea, given this is a competition to find players to place in real races you'd think the cars would be a little more representative of that. Something like the GT500 GTR's make alot more sense than a electric econo box. But I guess that's the marketing angle of this. They're hoping to sell a bunch of Leafs I guess.

It's harder to make a slow car go fast, than it is to make a fast car go fast.

They also probably want people who can drive a variety of cars, other than just high downforce racecars.

How did you drive that stupid turn 1-2? I always struggle to drive that part of track and Using DS3.
Paddock Hill - it's a beast.

I've been staying quite high (left of the white line in the centre of the track) and braking quite early to about 70-72mph, hitting the cones (literally, too often) and immediately on the power. I can just about hit 77mph by the time the car stops understeering towards the outside of the track, just about half on the green astro. I may be a second off the pace at the moment, but through Paddock Hill I'm on top of Tidgney - which is good enough for me to say I've got it right

Apparently they only want drivers who like driving understeering pieces of crap (sorry to say)

I absolutely hate understeering cars.

My time ATM is 1:04.4 btw. Using a controller

Haha Famine ;) you have a new target for sector 1 now!! .7xxs :)!

Although generally paddock hill bend I see alot of the lines overshooting, brake later and harder and accelerate through, you'll get better consistency than trying to chuck it in sideways at 80!

1:03.293 GTP_Tidgney

Just noticed top GTP Tag *Slight Cheer*!

There's still lots of time here, your going to be talking 1:03.0/1:02.9xx as the ultimate lap.

No it's not. That's just a myth perpetuated by those who like driving slower cars. Fair enough if that's what you like, but driving slower cars is not harder than driving fast ones. If it were, then all the best drivers would be racing Spec Miata or something like that rather than F1, Indy or Nascar. The point is, the competition is going to put players in real race cars, not stock Leafs, so the cars IMO should be more indicative of the types of cars you will be driving should you win.

No, the point is that this is also a contest and, therefore, PD should be trying to include as many of their fans as possible, even children from which some might grow up to be the next winners. There will be something for everyone. By the time the contest gets serious, contestants get to use a better car. No problem.

Had a quick go before going out to meet the missus, got down to 1:03.529 with the controller and messed up plenty of .3xx runs. I either screw up the 1st turn or the last turn.

Don't know about anybody else, but the constant stutter and screen tearing soon gave me a headache. As much as I despise those problems they normally don't hurt my eyes, but within 30 mins it was becoming painful to look at the screen. Seemed worse than it usually does.

Congrats Tidgney.......I hope it stays up there..

How tight are the Force feedback?... Power steering??

Cheers, My steering options are;

Steering Type: Simulation
Power Assisted steering: Off
Feedback Strength: 4

Hope that helps :)!

Here's the updated lap video (Unfortunately rank 2 now :P! Lost alot at the Graham Hill bend, and just watching Dans replay I've also lost .05 in the last sector! I reckon 1:03.0/1:02.9xx would be the ultimate lap)
