I just wonder why Subaru would want to move so far away from their cult fan base.

I have to wonder how many people, apart from the dedicated fans of BTCC, would actually know that most of the cars on track only have about 3/4 of the bodyshell in common with the actual road cars, with not even the 'right' engine used. All most people will see are Scoobies competing in the series. ...... Scoobies do well - Scoobies sell lol

Subaru haven't had any major motorsports involvement for a while?
Apart from a long standing factory team in Super GT, who looked poised to dominate GT300 a couple of years ago, but the BRZ has been firmly outclassed since then. That's pretty much where it stops though.

It's a horrible-looking car, too:

It looks way too long, too big, and too heavy. But then, I have never been a fan of estate touring cars.

Does it remind anyone else of the Volvo C30 or is it just me?

Yeah, i know. But it's obviously not a 'works' effort and their involvement is probably no more than supplying a few gratis body shells, I just wonder why Subaru would want to move so far away from their cult fan base.
According to Autosport it's a works deal.

Scott said: "I have made no secret that I wanted to take the team to the next level, and that meant getting a factory deal.

"Subaru has really engaged with this programme already.

Not sure why they are using an I4 though, Do the regulations allow for boxer engines? I would think it would be a pretty decent advantage if they allowed it.

According to that article, it sounds like they're keeping the boxer unit and developing it to NGTC spec with help from Mountune:
"Although it is an estate car, it has a very strong drag coefficient and also the dynamics of the boxer engine mean that the weight is lower down in the unit, which will help with the weight distribution of the car.

C30 front A Class rear.

Lots of news coming from ASI. New looks and drivers for Cicely, Eurotech, Speedworks and maybe more.

Furi will update his silly season chart sunday night accordingly.

Subara had the BRZ in GT300 recently, even though it ended up being a bit of a dud. Before that, the Cusco Impreza from GT300 was converted to RWD for some seasons iirc. So this isn't there first foray into RWD racing.

For them it must be a bit tough to be an AWD company, when there's not that many AWD friendly racing series out there apart from Rally and Prototype.

. That's what I thought it was at first glance  The grill is what fooled me.

Just looked at Autosport digital edition and it seems Jack Goff is confirmed at WSR in Priaulx's old IHG car (Hadn't seem that posted anywhere other than in rumour form before).

I know who I'm going to be supporting his year then

Also I think the Subaru is far better looking than people give it credit for, even if it does have a stupid name

Since it's January and nothing interesting is happening, Foxtel is playing every round of the 2015 season back-to-back. I'm surprised at just how short the races are - twenty-two laps of Silverstone National? The race is over in less than half an hour!

It's three races, and touring car races are usually 20-25 minutes. Good length as long enough to let field develop and tyre wear take its toll.

Team HARD driver reveal in an hour, as well as news from Eurotech and Cicely.

And from AMD with the Audi:

Twenty-two laps of Silverstone National is just shy of eighty kilometres; three races amounts to two hundred and forty. That's nothing - we regularly have races that are two hundred and fifty kilometres long. Colour me disappointed.

BTCC races have never been regularly long events. The formats perfect for TV, teams, drivers. Just because a race is longer doesn't mean its better either.

Later on does get interesting as the whole FWD / RWD tyre balance shifts.
Yeah, they showing Brands Hatch GP right now.

Also, maybe this is just the bloody colonial in me, but is Andy Prilaux a wanker? Looking at the final standings from each race, all of the drivers are credited by name ... except for Prilaux, who is "Andy Prilaux MBE". If he tried that down here, all the drivers would be lining up to thump him through the first corner.

Yup its colonial. You guys definitely get worked up over little things

EDIT: Ingram livery not a final livery.

Ah, we'll let it slide. I mean, we have better touring car racing, a better cricket team and a better rugby team. Give it a few years, and the A-League will out-class the EPL.

Yeah, I said it.

Cricket and rugby only thing true there

More news from ASI due soon apparently.
