Wait, Andy Priaulx MBE is how it is stylised on telly? That is very irritating, actually. Nothing colonial about it.

we have better touring car racing

Now, now, you and the DTM need to stop calling yourselves touring car racing and admit that you are both spec series, bordering on GT series. Although granted, the V8s are a great watch.

Yeah, in the final standings. Maybe it's just in the highlights package, though. Sometimes the commentary felt like it was recorded after the race had been run, particularly when the race skipped ahead a lap or three, so who knows what else was changed. But the use of the MBE does come across as pretty pretentious.

Is it aussie commentary or David Addison and Tim Harvey?

edit. Merc time :D

It's British. I don't know the commentators' names. It just reminds me of the highlights packages the WRC has put out in the past few years where the commentator clearly knows what's about to happen, but is still trying to sound excited about it.

All commentaries are live, all races including support packages on the sunday are broadcast live free to air with occasional example of a earlier in the day race to fill lunch break.

Okay. Maybe it's just coincidence, but sometimes the race would skip ahead a lap or two and the segue in the commentary lined up very well.

It's the way that the highlights packages are cut, I've watched a few season reviews (which are a compilation of the 40 min. highlights packages) recently and they'll regularly play the audio from the previous clip into the start of the next clip (or vice versa).

Austin and Ingrams Toyota liveries are awful, and Simpsons is pretty bland. Deppers looks a bit better (now the ICD logo looks less like it was drawn in MS Word by a 78 year old). I was hoping with Goff going to Priaulx's old car they might change that livery, but no, that's still pretty horrible too.

I love the BTCC, but some of the liveries are just rubbish.

Is BMR going to get a livery or make the series look amateur with a bare car that's up the front.

Atleast have a Subaru livery I would hope.

Now the blue touch paper as been lit everyone stand back.
And here's we go

To our Owners Club family

I am currently at the Autosport show and very shortly I will be announced as the new driver for Handy Motorsport. I am sorry we have been so quiet over the off season but as I’m sure you can appreciate we have had to keep this under wraps however I wanted you guys to be the first to know and I wanted to explain the situation in more detail than the press will be able to.

Firstly this has been very difficult for us, Dad, Lucy and I have run the RAR team for ten years now and have grown it from running a single Ginetta G20 at track days to a race winning BTCC operation so I’m sure you can appreciate how difficult this decision was.

The fact is though that the only way we could have continued would have been with the Audi A4s while remaining on the GPRM suspension package. With the championship being so competitive we wouldn’t have been able to be at the front. If you’re not at the front then you and your sponsors don’t get seen and eventually this downward trend would only continue and, well, fading out isn’t a fate I was willing to accept!

We tried our upmost to bring a manufacturer on board and had some good engagement but unfortunately ran out of time. As you can imagine the level of funding required to build two new cars and update them both to the new RML kits is huge and as great as our sponsors are we really needed a manufacturer on board to make it possible.

I was then at a family dinner and, as I’m sure most of you know by now, Christian Dick who runs Speedworks is my brother in law. Speedworks run the car for Handy Motorsport and so he suggested this route. Tom Ingram put in some great performances last year and showed the car has enormous potential. When Christian told me some of their plans for the winter and given our situation I went for a meeting with Simon Belcher (who runs and owns Handy Motorsport)

Simon really impressed me, he has some exciting plans for the future, he’s a bloody good bloke and from a team point of view they are doing everything right! Things we simply couldn’t afford to do!

So we did a deal.

This deal sees US as a team joining forces with Handy. The same team of mechanics and engineers will be running my car, Dad and Lucy will continue their roles and I made sure that you guys were part of the deal as well. So we will still have OC meetings on Saturdays and we will be doing the roof scheme again and you will still be just as involved.

I’m sure you have heard that we are planning to run Sherman and Panzer in the B-Tec development series, so that side of the team will continue to run while the other side concentrates on our BTCC aspirations.

The car is a brand new build Toyota Avensis which is considerably lighter and shorter (in wheel base) than the Audi, Tom proved it very competitive last season and there is and has been a considerable winter development plan. Combining the experience and skills of Handy Motorsport, Speedworks and RAR I really think we will have a package that will be a solid, consistent and very competitive front runner.

It’s a big change and it’s been stressful, of course I care what you guys will think as well but everything considered I really believe that this is the right move for us and I hope we will continue to have your amazing support through this next chapter of our quest to win the British Touring Car Championship.

Here’s to a fantastic 2016 season!

As ever, thanks for your support.
Rob and the the RAR team

Still wanting money though

So Belcher confirmed 2 TBLs, Austin confirmed his TBL is for the second car, Scott has said at AI that the cars will NOT be in a WRC-style Subaru Blue, and the Insignia's, contrary to popular belief they got turned into the Passats, still exist and will run in the new club support series!

Aron Smith has confirmed he is on the grid but NOT revealing plans yet.

Any news on whether Jackson has got the third Motorbase seat yet?

Post Autosport International, Furi's silly season driver chart, version 4 with a good lot of updates and format revamp!

WSR / BMW 1 Series
Also known as: "The Longer The Sponsor Name The Better!"

Goff / Tordoff? / Collard? / Hawken?
Jack Goff revealed at ASI moving from T888 to WSR, driving the ex Priaulx IHG car. Collard said "open to offers" out other teams, Priaulx off to Ford WEC, Richard Hawken sponsors appeared on a facebook post showing the BMW's being prepared.

T888 / MG ???
Also known as: "We can't keep our drivers"

??? / ???
Currently 2 TBL's, hot rumour is a third TBL coming courtesy of BMR, who's owner Warren Scott owns some of the operation. Could become the "BMR Rejects" team. Confirmed with a new MG for 2016-18, no word on if it is a new model, but almost surely a facelift at least.

HONDA YUASA RACING / HONDA CIVIC
Also known as: "Shorty & Lankys Championship-Winning Team"

Neal / Shedden / Clarke???
Three TBLs, with Neal and Shedden as usual confirmed. Jack Clarke was signed in 2015 as a "Honda Development Driver", so most likely candidate for the seat.

TEAM BMR RESTART / SUBARU LEVORG
Also known as: "Death Star Scooby Doo Team"

Plato / Turkington / Smith? / Scott? / Menu?
Gaining Subaru manufacturer backing with that most obvious of choices, a RWD Estate. Using Mountune Boxer 4 Cylinder for added bwap bwap bwap. Plato confirmed, and cannot whinge about RWD anymore having helped broker the deal. Turkington confirmed, so expect him to be quick back in a RWD. Rumour is Warren Scott IS driving a third car that is being built up. Fourth car may not happen despite a shell being built, and a TBL could easily be shifted to T888 / The BMR Rejects Team, as Scott owns both teams. Aron Smith wasn't employee of the month after Brands but got photographed with team at ASI, Menu has Subaru links via TCR.

EUROTECH / HONDA CIVIC
Also known as: "The Honda's That Don't Win"

Depper / Smith / ???
3 new Civics for Eurotech, having purchased a TBL from Houseman Racing, with the good ol' boys Depper and Smith driving. Said to be in contact with three drivers for the final seat. Jack Clarke could become Honda Development Reject driver and join as Eurotech are in direct partnership with Yuasa.

CICELY RACING (WIX) / MERCEDES A CLASS
Also known as: "The Angry Wasp"

Morgan
Apart from a divisive new paint scheme, little change - Adam is still blonde, the car is still yellow, and he'll still run well.

SPEEDWORKS / TOYOTA AVENSIS - HONDA CIVIC
Also known as: "Putting Best Driver In The Slower Car Because Why Not".

Ingram / Simpson
Acquired another TBL to return to 2 cars. Ingram in the Toyota again, and hot rod racer Simpson in a Honda running under his own banner. Confusion over the chassis, was originally announced to be the 2015 title winning Shedden car but thats appeared alongside the car at ASI - maybe they used a spare shell?

AMD TUNING / AUDI S3
Also known as: "The FWD Audi"

Bushell? / Hamilton? / Hill?
The 2014 Audi S3 soldiers on in classic Audi-themed livery for a full season after Nick Hamilton and Jake Hill drove last season. Both need £££ to continue, and no driver signed as of present. Shaun Hollamby team boss even said he may hop in if he can find no driver jokingly... or not? The teams Ford Focus got sold to Maximum Motorsport and with it the TBL.

LASER TOOLS / MERCEDES A CLASS
Also known as: "The Mercedes That Thinks It's A Rally Car"

Moffat
Moffat returns, and much like stablemate, Morgan, nothings changed much except for a new sponsor (Butlers) and a new sexy blue. Thats gotta be worth a couple tenths right there.

WELCH MOTORSPORT / ???
Also known as: "The Little Engine That Couldn't"

Welch
One TBL, unknown if sticking with the engines they did have or going to Swindon power. Rumours were Hyundai, but choice of car still being investigated. Protons, all 407hp of them (when they work) are up for sale... more on there possible home below...

TEAM HARD / TOYOTA AVENSIS
Also known as: "Formerly TeamRentADriver.Com, now Tonys Pastel Colour Fetish"

Gilham?
One car, a Toyota. Occupant unknown. Just expect pink.

HANDY MOTORSPORT / TOYOTA AVENSIS
Also known as: "We Get The Fans To Pay For Our Repairs Racing"

Belcher / Austin.
Belcher confirmed himself driving at ASI and a second TBL with Rob Austin bringing his over having sold off part of RAR, and probably confused a lot of his Owners Club at the same time. Don't think that's the last we'll hear of it... Note the Austin chassis is a brand new build. Luke Hines was linked with 2nd seat originally.

PRO MOTORSPORT (S.O.P.R) / INFINITI Q50
Also known as: "The Unwilling Soldier"

Palmer / ???
Speculation is the teams second TBL won't be used after troubled 2015. Palmer confirmed.

MOTORBASE / FORD FOCUS
Also known as: "EcOPBoost Racing"

Jordan / Jackson? / Cole?
The trolls of 2015 return hopefully with a car that isn't ridiculous on straights and average everywhere else. Jordan brings the Pirtek backing with some chrome, Jackson is according to Dave Bartrum "high priority" (Read: "We're gonna sign him last minute for banter again"). Don't be surprised if they try get another TBL, Cole brings money. Ash Sutton tested it so probably means he won't get a seat.

POWER MAXED / CHEVROLET CRUZE
Also known as: "The Midfielders"

Newsham? / Cook?
Cook isn't confirmed, but his facebook is pure banter. Newsham is looking for sponsors, because as Cook wrote, you don't want to sponsor a ginger. Ever.

PARKER RACING (DEXTRA) / FORD FOCUS
Also known as: "We Want ALL The Colours"

Martin
Martin said he is almost certain of returning. Hopefully they replaced the 10 year old who designed the 2015 livery.

MAXIMUM MOTORSPORT / FORD FOCUS
Also known as: "The Other Other Ford"

Lines
Ex-AMD car as Lines moves his Clio team to BTCC, and with Motorbase form, the Ford might be car to have. Just a shame it's got the wrong engine. Oh Stewart...

OTHER ITEMS:
Unless cancelled, the ex-Holland Audi S3 will have a spare chassis handy if AMD plans go ahead.

Hunter Abbott without a drive but considering Alcosense are all his sponsors he could buy a seat or even the ashes of RAR.

BONUS! - THE BTCC FEEDER SERIES:
Club level series for first gen NGTC cars that people either couldn't be bothered to, or afford to, upgrade. Eligible cars known in existence:

2x Protons - For sale with the Welch engines.

1x Toyota - From Houseman Racing assets, Eurotech could sell it.

2x Vauxhall Insignias - Originally cannibalised into Passats, now apparently fully rebuilt and present at the factory.

1-4x VW Passats - Unlikely to be seen again in BTCC, will either go back to the cars owners (not Team HARD or BMR), or be available. And knowing Warren, he'll enter 1 car minimum.

3x Audi A4's - RAR cars. Sherman I, Sherman II, Panzer.

Did I miss something or are the A4's from RAR not in this series?

Only one A4 surely? I thought Hunters off at Rockingham was deemed to be terminal.

No, they rolled out the original Sherman at Brands for him. Wait so 3 chassis, Sherman, Sherman II, Panzer.

We'll send you our Triple Eight if you like. You can have Whincup, van Gisbergen and Roland Dane (but we're keeping Lowndes; he's a national treasure).

Curious to see how this works out. Our feeder series started out as a class for gentlemen racers and moneyed-up playboys who fancied themselves as racing drivers, but in recent years it has become a quality championship in its own right, with young talent mixing it up with the endurance stalwarts. It can also be more exciting than the top tier champions at times, mostly at the boring circuits like Queensland Raceway, because the drivers aren't always as professional as the top tier and driving standards are lower. And we all know how much touring car drivers like to stick their elbows out.
