2016 Formula 1 Japanese Grand PrixFormula 1

Yeah, it's not like he's a role model or the public face of the sport; and nor does he have a history of showing poor judgement off the track when the pressure is mounting ...

Who really cares? It's a press conference, drivers are always on their phones and showing a distinct lack of interest because the press ask the same boring questions. It's absolutely nothing to do with what is going on where it matters, on the track. I don't want to turn on FP1 and hear them discussing this for 20 minutes, which is bound to be what happens.

If the images posted on the previous page are indeed the ones Hamilton took, then it does look pretty disrespectful.

But more importantly, it may be symptomatic of Hamilton's frustrations or his feeling the pressure of the championship fight. Remember when he posted the telemetry data in Spa? He was slower than Button despite having the updates when Button did not, and his posting the data was pretty careless.

What he's done here is childish and trivial and I agree that it will likely be given undue weight by the media - but at the same time, I wonder if it's a reflection of his state of mind.

You do realise you're doing the exact same thing Sky constantly do with the "psychological advantage" nonsense they constantly peddle about them both? He was bored in the press conference and played on his phone. No point looking for anything else deeper than that.

Ant's back!

I'm so happy - he makes the technical side of the sport and the driver experience so accessible. I really liked that analogy about driving on snow.

At the very least, he's better than Paul di Resta, whose chinos seem to get tighter and tighter every race. *shudder*

I recall a press conference earlier this year where he and Perez were looking at stuff on his phone and laughing to each other... This must have been done to mask his deep inner depression and he used Perez as his catalyst, that evil man, Hamilton is.

Unfortunately we still have Crofty to deal with who is still reading out the moronic Sky viewership tweets.

Verstappen seems to have run down The Hulk. The green one, not the Le Mans Winner.

I don't know why Crofty is having a go at Grosjean for complaining about the brakes. The amount of issues and failures he's had you'd forgive him for not even wanting to get in the car until they fix their yearlong BBW issues. You get the feeling sooner or later he's going to have a mammoth accident, he's been pretty lucky so far.

I know its only practice but Red Bulls long runs look ace!!!...wouldn't be surprised if they will do very well in the race...

Hope they can find some speed for quali !!

The F1 starts at 4pm sunday and Bathust 1000 finishes 5:30pm
Bahhhhhhhhhh
There are replays of both on Foxtel the next day, and the Grand Prix isn't one of Channel Ten's live races seeing as how it clashes with Bathurst every year.

fans should be asking questions, not biased media
How does that make sense? Fans are even more biased than the media. "Hey Lewis, why don't you already leave Mercedes and go to a team that won't sabotage you?!" ; "Vettel, why you not win with Ferrari? I love Ferrari and every race breaks my heart" ; "Kimi, do you want icecream? Hahaha, I'm funny" and so on. Fan questions really should never reach those press conferences.

According to Jenson, that was simulator data.
I read that one. My first thought was "isn't it weird how it's taken four years for that to be revealed?"; I mean, why didn't Button say it at the time and spare everyone the trouble?

Suzuka can be great for overtakes if you want it enough. Kobayashi made his name with a great attacking display at the race in 2009/10. It's not that the overtakes aren't there, it's about whether your driving style suits the circuit. Different circuits suit different drivers and Suzuka is a classic example of this trope. Max Verstappen would be a Suzuka type driver and if Rosberg can pull off the same attacking flair as he did in overtaking Räikkönen at Sepang, he'd be no slouch either.

Now, we can't have a grid of 20 Kobayashis and Verstappens, no, that's not what I'm saying. But when you do have one or two drivers like that, it gives them a chance to shine. A multitude of different circuits shouldn't all suit the same kind of driver. I like a challenge and I'm sure the drivers do too.

As for Japan's other Grade I circuit... it's a decent enough track but I'd rather lick MDF than see Fuji with DRS.

I will watch a stream on the internet as the next day you know who one due to the news reporting it.

Even when there is no sport on ten/one they don't show the F1 as they rather show a old show as it is cheaper than buying the rights for live.

I'm more worried about a red flag delay in the F1 meaning I could miss the Hong Kong ePrix

Psychological warfare between drivers?

Some or most of the questions asked now are not much better than your imagination of how fan questions would turn out. A lot of people are more interested in the technical part of the sport than hearing the same bogus media spin. A simple way to get good questions is to hold an online poll on the topic or type of questions asked. The press conference isn't a "get to know your favorite driver" session. Look at the questions posed to Alonso about the difference in working with Honda and Ferrari. That's actually interesting to read. Not the goofy 'higher power' Hamilton questioning for the thousandth time.

Would you rather fight 100 duck sized horses or one horse sized duck?

why would Jenson insert himself into someone else's argument?

i think that's an issue we see throughout the entirety of journalism, but sports journalism gets the worst of it of course. At least F1 hasn't stooped to ESPN level. Yet.

Nico being on top so far is weird, Lewis on Suzuka is a sight to be hold.

It's been quite obvious this season that Rosberg has upped his game considerably compared to last year. He seems much more focused and less vulnerable to pressure. When they're both on their zone, there's almost nothing between them in terms of pace.

.072 is not a huge margin. Nico always seems closer or slightly faster than Lewis on softer tires. At least on one lap. Get them on hards or mediums and the margin seems to be in Lewis's favor.

Nico has been great this year and fully deserves the title if he gets it, but Suzuka is one of Lewis's strong circuits.

Yep, and if this predicted storm shows up, that practice will all be for nothing.
