About the bit in bold. It should be hard as he hasn't actually driven this years car at all. All the testing he has done has been on the simulator. .

This years car, yes - other/older cars plus the sim time, no.

He'll piss it, no probs - he's definitely not a mug.

I'd always thought it had to be one of the designated FP sessions. To the rule book...! :D
So did I but on the Sky coverage they said that technically, the Quali is classed as a practice session, unless they've made a boo-boo.

Can't see Williams sorting Di Resta out without checking up.

Massa out, Hulk with +5 Grid Penalty. This is looking to good for Alonso now. There won't be a better opportunity to become "best of the rest" than this weekend

Unofficial caption competition entry from Bernie Ecclestone:

Apparently there is a sickness bug doing the rounds at the moment, could that be the reason Martin Brundle was taken ill at Silverstone??

Yeah I think I saw someone retweeted a tweet by Natalie Pinkham saying that it's the same bug called Viral Labyrinthitis.

All three, it turned out...

P1
7 - Alonso
8 - Vandoorne

P2
8 - Alonso
10 - Vandoorne

P3
6 - Vandoorne
9 - Alonso

Currently 7th and 9th in Q1...

Edit:
Q1
8 - Alonso
9 - Vandoorne
Q2
8 - Alonso
9 - Vandoorne

And thus guaranteed top 10 finishes in Q3. Bodes for a dreadful race

According to Canal+, yes it's the same than MB and there has been more people affected in the paddock. It affects internal ear, they said.

Viral Labyrinthitis is, as the name suggests, a virus that affects the labyrinthine canals - three circular parts of the inner ear. They contain sensitive hairs and fluid which detect motion along three axes and are entirely responsible for your ability to balance and sense motion. The virus affects that, so you get motion sickness and fall over a lot.

It's mildly bad for people whose job relies on their ability to sense forces of motion...

Mercedes always had a tendency to struggle with tires, especially in the race. Don't have much hopes, anything can happen of course at that level, but I think the most likely outcome is Seb widening the gap.

p.s. Bottas has the tightest balaclava in the field.

What a cracking lap by Vettel. Ferrari in the front row for a change.

This track is great to see who has the best chassis. Great job for Alonso on his birthday and for McLaren.

DiResta did pretty well too considering this was basically his FP1. He'd have the 7th best time in FP1 with his Q1 lap time. ^^

I've never rated either driver, to be honest.

Likewise. But when F1 gives you a Scot and a Canadian... and a Palmer...
Also interesting that Palmer used to put his performances down to old parts on his car compared to Hulkenburg, but this weekend thier cars are equal by his own words I believe, and his is still pretty slow compared to his teammate.

I honestly thought Raikkonen was going to get pole with a purple S1 but it looks like he lost a smidge in S2 and just never managed to regain that.

And Alonso... just a few hundredths shy of Hulkenburg. Either McLaren have taken a huge step forward or Alonso is being Alonso.

Vandoorne also performed way better than usual so i would say McLaren did something right, knock on wood.

Hungary has been good for McLaren I believe. Looking at the times Vandoorne definitely did a decent job, but was some three and a half tenths shy of Alonso. But that could easily come down to experience.

Honda might have something yes. But the top speed difference between the McLaren and MB or Ferrari was around 10kph instead of 25 or 30kph on other tracks. McLaren's aerodynamics has always been good and this circuit is a good place to see that.
