Whaaaaaa???????? Seriously? Going from being GM's lead prototype team with a link to Le Mans to running little backmarker GT3 cars for Lambo? What is this? What happened to them becoming GM's #2 team? Maybe this will force GM to make Larbre the european factory team now

WTR has been running a Lamborghini Super Trofeo team for quite awhile now.

First what @GTRacer22 said, secondly just because they're a GM team doesn't mean they can't have other efforts. Also their not running cars for Lambo, they're running cars in a Lambo only event, and getting their money's worth by expanding to GTD, which should be easy since they run cars in the top category.

Also this has nothing to do with Labre, or GM efforts.

I mean, the old Prestige/WTR ST cars ran a similar scheme to the DP, it could happen.

Caught up on the race this afternoon. That many cars in a multi class race does not belong at Long Beach. Not much more to say other than please, IMSA, go to somewhere like Portland or Mid Ohio instead. Seriously? Please? Thank you.

On to CotA, then...

Actually I'll admit, racing in Portland was slightly before my time as a sports car fan, so you may very well be right. I'm being selfish in that I just want to see it happen.

And sure, Mid Ohio may be a little short, but at least it's... narrow... and sort of slow... Okay, may not have been the best suggestion...

Long Beach is the best place for IMSA to go, it's just they allowed way too many cars to participate. Other than that hairpin that really messed things up the past few years, the track is absolutely fine. It's the reason why IMSA has kept coming back to it rather than... Baltimore...

They could do Mid Ohio or Portland, that would be mint. It's just in that case it isn't much better.

I've seen races at the old Portland circuit thanks to Youtube (and having starting to watch ALMS on and off back in 2005/2006), and they really, REALLY, need to go back there. It's a great circuit and it needs more love.

The track in Portland is owned by the city, and I don't think they have had recent interest in investing to get it up to snuff.

They did some updates back in '08 to keep ALMS running there, but they currently do not host any major series.

I've raced there quite a bit in ChumpCar and other wheel to wheel series, likely will be racing there in July. Can tell you that some aspects of the facility are noticeably run down, many aspects have not been updated from the CART days in the '80's when I attended some of the races.

I would personally support IMSA running there, I generally think it's a good track for racing, the low speed first chicane encourages overtaking. But I'm not sure if they will make the needed investment to get the track in shape to attract a major series again.

Yet they still go to Lime Rock... Even with the two chicanes that's probably less than a minute long lap in a DPi.

Well, at least they're only taking the GT cars to Lime Rock this year. I bet if the new P cars were going as well, we would have similar issues we had this weekend.

Mid Ohio for correction is over 2 miles in length. The narrowness of the track would discourage large fields like what IMSA is trying to achieve.

Would a GTLM/GTD round work? NASCAR stuffs 40 cars there, could get the GT's crammed in there no? And having a second GT only race would be cool.

It wouldn't draw and there isn't room for it to support the IndyCar race. The Mid-Ohio race before stopped drawing which is what got it removed in the first place.

What about Barber? Not to replace Long Beach, or even Detroit (I like Detroit, probably the only one )...just to have its own event. I really like Barber, the DPi cars would look great there. Is it a big enough circuit for a full IMSA field?

Barber is the same length as Mid-Ohio and is just a smidge wider. Probably not a full grid if at all. Although it is in a great location for a spring or fall race.

Are Mid Ohio and Barber that much more narrow than Sebring, Mosport, Detroit, Leguna Seca, or Road Atlanta?

As far as length, they're both roughly 2.4 miles long. Mosport is 2.46, Detroit is 2.35, Leguna Seca is 2.24, and Road Atlanta is 2.54. So they're both well within the ballpark in terms of circuit length. Long Beach and Limerock are both much shorter.

Yes, Barber back in the conversation. IMSA should not go there with Indycar for sure, bring the Conti series, Prototype Challenge, and invite PWC minus GT4 because Conti fills that pretty well (except they have no X bows I think, boo). That would make a weekend of racing to remember for sure, I just don't know how you can fit all the haulers in the paddock even if you run them all behind pit road too.

You could run the schedule something like Pirelli TC Saturday morning, Pirelli Sprint X midday, Conti 2 hours early afternoon, Protoype Challenge late afternoon. Then Sunday morning Pirelli TC, Prototype Challenge midday, Pirelli Sprint X early afternoon, and WSCC 160 minutes to end the day. That sounds pretty awesome to me.

Yes, Barber and Mid Ohio are narrower than Sebring and Road Atlanta. Laguna Seca is narrower than both, but draws better than Mid-Ohio did for these type of events. Detroit is only there for Chevy's sake. The track is no better than Long Beach.
