Østberg never intended to enter Rally Mexico this year. His wife is expected to deliver their baby any day now, so he'll be on diaper duty for a couple of weeks. According to an article on a local newspaper here he was ready to leave Rally Sweden at any time if his wife was to go into labour.
Yeah, we don't get that kind of news down here.

Good and bad news then! Love Ostberg's personality and his flamboyant driving so it will certainly be missed. But big congrats to him becoming a father!

I can´t wait to see if Latvala can keep up the momentum, I remember how high hopes I had for him in 2014 but inconsistent results destroyed his title chances. People like to point out Germany where Latvala lost but even if he won Germany he would have to win atleast 3 more rounds assuming Ogier would end up as 2nd on each of them. I think his poor performance in Portugal earlier in the season was also a contributing factor.

This looks interesting:

Unfortunately I can't read it since I have used up all of my article views for the month.

Pretty much the only bit that seems noteworthy is this.

FIA rally director Jarmo Mahonen wants independent teams to have more relevance and pointed to MotoGP's system of manufacturers and satellite squads as a good model.

The six manufacturers currently in MotoGP are offered incentives to supply customer teams and, after a decade of factory dominance, three grands prix were won by satellite riders last year.

"We have been discussing for two or three years that we have to move towards a championship for teams, where there is also a place for the manufacturers," Mahonen told Autosport.

"It will be on the agenda now. We will look at what we could do from 2018 onwards.

Well, M-Sport are the only constructor with a customer support programme. Toyota are too new to the sport right now, while Citroën looked as if they made running a customer team to be a thoroughly unenjoyable experience, and Volkswagen had no interest in making the Polo R WRC available to anyone. And I have no idea what Hyundai thought of it.

With the emergence of Formula E and both Formula One and the World Endurance Championship introducing regulations to promote hybrid powertrains, will the WRC introduce hybrids? Not, it seems, for at least five years, but it does appear to be a long-term goal for the championship.

If they added power without increasing the aero grip, the cars might be harder to drive, but you wouldn't get much of a spectacle. You'd just get cars that aren't much faster than an R5 because drivers would have to consciously limit the throttle input.

They mightn't be much faster, but looking fast is more important than being fast when it comes to regulations IMO.

Good decision, hybrids have killed privateers in LMP1 and any small engine manufactures in F1 (Cosworth), WRC without independent teams like M-Sport fighting at the front would not be right.

Fastest within the regulations. People don't fondly remember Group A or Group B because they drove around on rails.
Fastest within the regulations, yes. Surely the rest of your post is a misprint? Autocorrect playing havoc maybe?

Other than when recalling the fatalities, I've never heard anyone say a bad word about Group B.
You Sir, can consider yourself a true pioneer.

Group A as well. Yes, the first few years were dismal when it was only Lancia left standing, but the rise of the Japanese in the '90s is one of the series' classic eras.

I think you misunderstood what I wrote. People don't love group A and B because they drove around on rails - one reason they love Group A and B is because getting the cars sideways was the fastest way to drive them. Same way that the Ford Escort MkII is still a fan favourite.

Ok, understood now 👍

Can anyone explain why there´s no Toyota or Citroen merchandise?

http://www.wrcclothing.com/

that's pretty simple, same reason there is still VW clothing when they left a few months ago. It takes time for merchandises to be updated in this type of thing, and perhaps you can try their personal websites.

I buy Mercedes F1 stuff off the actual Mercedes website, cause the F1 site takes far longer to update and sometimes doesn't even have the stuff I want. It's Citroen's first season back and Toyota's first season back in nearly two decades. Also it's the start of the season, usually you get running first then start making shirts and hats once everything has been sorted.

Stages 1 and 2 have been cancelled and accounts for around 73km. This looks good for Latvala consider he is the road sweeper on day 1

Ooo its March 10th already. Rally time again! Will have to remember to start up the RedBull TV when I get home tonight to check out what is going on. :)

I believe it was because on the way to the service park , there was an accident which caused a big traffic jam and it made the trucks carrying the cars arrive late.
Fair enough.

Sort of hard to run the Stages without the cars.

I feared it may have been something like Spectator Control similar to the cancelled Stages in Monte Carlo.
