Wayback Wednesday to when some team actually turned a GT4 V8 Vantage into an R-GT car for Rally Sweden

So cool, if it werent' for the guy I'd think it was an expensive diecast from the first couple slides.

It is when Mikkelsen is in a WRC2 car. The Citroens are well off the pace but I guess we won't know until Friday or even Saturday if they're sandbagging.

Most drivers are saving their studded tyres since they might use the full allocations of studded tyres on friday stages (that are almost fully snow or ice). ;)

Tyres choices for the "top" drivers on the shakedown :
Pilot alpin studded : Ogier, Tänak (mix-mount), Mikkelsen
Pilot alpin non studded : Latvala, Hänninen, Paddon, Neuville, Sordo
Pilot SS4 super soft : Meeke, Lefebvre, Breen, Evans

Only thing we can conclude is which tyres were the most effectives on the shakedown stage. :D
And that most drivers are saving their studded tyres for friday.

Full results of the shakedown here :

Real action begins tomorrow night. 👍

What's the best way to watch WRC? I know they have their own thing but you need a subscription and their YouTube channel's recap videos are only 3 minutes long.

There's usually a half-hour magazine-format show that is put together at the end of each day, and a one-hour recap that is broadcast sometime after the event. The final stage is also broadcast live (and sometimes two stages are broadcast live, depending on the itinerary). You'll need to check your TV guide to find out which station is broadcasting it.

Red Bull TV are also broadcasting content on their app this year, and spectators frequently upload videos from the stages. You just have to find the right channels.

Shakedown is the equivalent of an installation lap in Formula One. It's a systems check to make sure everything is operating as it should be. Sandbagging gets you nothing because nobody in the service park pays attention to the times. Citroën have already said that they ran slicks to preserve the studs.

The Fiesta is the best-looking car, followed very closely by the Hyundai. The Yaris looks good from the front, but the rear wing is horrible. Really not a fan of the C3, though. It just looks too big and lacking in imagination.

Swap the first two around & we can agree.

After seeing videos of the cars on course, I think the Toyota looks the best. Is it the prettiest? No, but in not here to see a beauty pageant. I'm a form follows function guy, and when I look at the Toyota, I see pure function - and it makes me smile. For me, all the other cars look too tame, not different enough than the previous cars.

Updated the first post with the teams, calendar, rules and this quick guide on how to follow wrc.

Any aero/power benefit from the LED banks on the nose of the Ford? I'd wager money you'll see all the teams switch quietly to those if they work. I have to say (particularly with the night time lighting) these cars give me a Group B feel...and that's a good thing.

I've eschewed WRC in favor of the ERC (I find their rallies to be much more interesting and drivers more engaging) but maybe WRC can win me back with some silliness.

So the first stages start tonight? On the RedBull app, it says Live in 26hrs....is that countdown timer until RB starts streaming coverage, as opposed to the start of the race?

And why wouldn't RB cover the first night stages?

RedBull TV will have a highlight of today stages a bit later but not live. They only stream one saturday stage live (countdown) don't know why.
The first stage will be live on WRC+ or on tv (bt sport in the uk, easy to find a stream on google). 👍

Stage 1 is stopped, Paddon has bollocked it in the middle of the road.

Of the cars which made it through Neuville is quickest from Ogier.

E: Twitter is suggesting that a spectator may be trapped beneath the car.
