Euro Champs Portugal kicked off their quali campaign with a 2-0 loss away to Switzerland, they were without Ronaldo mind you, and France endured an equally frustrating night with a 0-0 draw away to Belarus.

Saw Australia beat UAE 1-0 in abu dhabi a few hours ago. UAE had a good start before Australia began to slowly take control. The goal by Tim Cahill was inevitable 👍

USA won 4-0 after another great game from Pulisic, Kljestan and Altidore.

I watched the Netherlands vs Sweden 1-1 draw yesterday and that Dutch forward Janssen is a beast up front. Sweden really missed Ibrahimovic and had few chances.

Interesting to see that Brazil are struggling a bit - would it be the first time they ever failed to qualify for a World Cup?

Despite Scotland's win against the mighty Malta, I fear for Scotland in this campaign - not least because of these slightly ill-advised adverts across Scotland sponsored by the SFA...

... there's one adorning a huge billboard at my local train station and it is already starting to annoy me.

I couldn't help noticing that the commentators during Scotland's game against Malta described Malta as 'a banana skin', as if the others are not... I reckon that is because the phrase 'banana skin' applies only to a team that we are expected to beat easily but could actually end up losing to, whereas all the other teams are simply teams that we are not expecting to win against at all...

Portugal's first game after winning the Euros?

Losing a WCQ against Switzerland.
Which makes Switzerland the Unofficial European Champions.

Canada is out :(

Uruguay became unofficial world champions last night with a 4-0 win over Paraguay.

Wales (10th) are still ahead of England (12th) in the World Rankings, with us leapfrogging Spain to get into the top 10.

It's nice for bragging rights but the rankings are still rubbish. Belgium still 2nd? Still in the top three? Still Europe's highest ranked team? Puh-lease. More seeding corruption. Someone must be desperate for Belgium to make it to tournaments via a crooked draw and there is only so much a brown envelope can do.

Although with that in mind I'd like to congratulate Kosovo (168th) and Gibraltar (205th) for entering the rankings at last. Good for them. Good to see their international teams ever more legitimised.

Next batch of European qualifiers start tomorrow.

Now that I've had time to reflect, I still think Wales threw that :censored:ing game away. As good as Austria were, and they were good; knew what they wanted to do and did it, we led twice and both of Austria's goals were our own doing. Slack marking for the first and a dreadful backpass to no-one for the second. I suppose a point away from home against the second seed isn't so bad.

But we were also playing in our cursed kit. We'd lost every game in that kit until last night and we didn't play particularly well. Plus Joe Pirlo went off injured. The curse goes on. Bah.

I did have a great time though. To see your country play is such a wonderful occasion.

Faroe Islands.
I don't think anyone should be surprised by it. Latvia have been tanking in recent campaigns and Faroes come off their best ever Euro qualifying - beating Euro 2004 champions Greece home and away...

Big Breaking News!!!!

San Marino have actually just scored a goal!!!

England are complete and utter shine!

Edit: Yawn! Get these muppets on a rugby pitch and see if they would carry on like that!

England 0-0 Slovenia and i think Scotland lost 3-0 away to Slovakia too....

England are crap and we're worse.

This group is a total dog.

Not a single one of them gave a damn about that match.

Struggling to think of a worse England performance in my over 35 years of watching them. We've never been great but at least in the past the players were proud to pull on the shirt. Other than Hart not one player deserved to be in the team tonight. Shocking performance.

When you realize that San Marino scored and England, Scotland and Northern Ireland didn't....

Should've seen their Twitter when they scored, they went ape-****!

.......but in the end they did lose 4-1...

If I was being managed week in week out by Pep, Poch or Klopp then had to spend a week with Gareth Southgate I think I'd be unmotivated too.

I went to Trnava again to watch Slovakia vs Scotland. Scotland looked bereft of any ideas; they spent 75 minutes pumping long balls which were cleared by Škrtel what seemed like every single time. Scotland didn't even contest the aerial balls and Fletcher up top on his own was useless. They did have a good final 15 mins when they decided that playing the ball to Griffiths' feet to make use of the fact that on the ground Škrtel is a clumsy donkey might be better but by then it was too late and Slovakia had taken their foot off the gas anyway.

Slovakia were excellent value for their win. Hamšík and Mak had a riot.

We bought tickets for the exact same seats as we did last month against England. England game was €58, Scotland game was €18. I'll say one thing though, the Scottish fans were great. They brought at least double as many numbers as England did and they made noise all throughout the game unlike the morbidly silent England fans. Very dedicated and passionate.
