That was dumb by Truex to completely wreck Johnson after the flag. I know it would obviously be frustrating to lose the win, but he came in at huge rate of knots while everyone else around him had come to a slow.

Jimmie doesn’t deserve to be in the championship with the way the team has performed this year. I get that people love Jimmie and wanted him to advance but he took himself out and it is what it is. He had control of his own destiny and he blew it. That’s not a championship caliber team currently.

This was the first Nascar race I've watched since 2008. When I heard they were doing a roval, I figured it might be worth watching, and boy was I right. If Nascar ran a oval to road-course ratio similar to Indycar I might even consider watching it regularly again.

Same here, currently I only watch the road courses and the 500. Hopefully this and the Sonoma change are signs they are at least somewhat moving in that direction.

  • Horsepower cut from 750 to 500
  • No restrictor plates at Daytona and Talladega (2019 Daytona 500 will use current rules)

At tracks larger than a mile. And there’s the front aero ducts, except at Pocono, Homestead, Atlanta, and Darlington, where they’ll run the reduced power but no ducts.

Apparently the all-star package was 400hp, so this will be slightly faster than that. Apparently another reason cited by NASCAR is that “manufacturers aren’t interested in entering with a 750hp engine since it’s too expensive. Oh sure, and I’m sure that’s the main reason, since pushrod V8 engines are SO relevant to current automotive trends and are so worth their while when it comes to research and development. Yep.

Short tracks and road courses are unaffected.

So let’s see, this will make the already overly long races even longer since the cars will be slower, make the series less about talent and skill and more about luck, and make the cars easier to drive. Exactly what all the fans and drivers were asking for (/s). As Keselowski and some others have said, this will result in the few NASCAR drivers having enough talent to race elsewhere leaving this sinking ship for somewhere where they can actually make a difference.

I think the amount of fans who are in the “I only watch short tracks and road courses” will increase exponentially.

The only good thing here is that hopefully this will change plate racing slightly.

I like no plates at super speedway but tapered spacers are restrictor plates anyways so there will still be plates at plate tracks. I don't like the sub Xfinity hp numbers at all.

Pushrod V8's are irrelevant? I guess you don't watch drifting then, pushrod LS v8s own the turf there. Everything else is spot on

I meant for street cars, they’re important in pretty much every form of grassroots American motorsport and probably always will be as long as there’s gas.

GM and Chrysler still use OHV engines in production cars and trucks. Rumor is Ford is developing one as well for use in trucks.

As for the new rule changes, not a fan of the big power cuts. Remember the awful plate race at Loudon back in 2000?

Man the reddit takes on the JJ vs Truex situation are worse than those I see on the average F1 controversy, that's saying something.
I watched thew whole race. It was an interesting contest. The fans were roaring more than usual, and the TV viewership was up significantly. Maybe they have a winner in the Roval? For one thing, the fan in most any seat could view an enormous amount of action going on in multiple corners.

Generally skeptical. Maybe it'll work...?

I think going back to the big spoiler will make more drivers competitive with the regular top dogs. More new people could come into the sport and be quick right away. Things will be more mixed up.

Wish the 10 car or a Ford would have got it. Safe to say the 10 car threw that race away with a classic GTS move.

How to make NASCAR good again: Just get rid of the dominant teams!

Missed the end, but the action sure oicked up after Harvick's incident.
