2018 Verizon IndyCar SeriesOpen Wheel

Yeah Rossi’s first lap was pretty quick despite the puncture but then I think the tire lost serious pressure and he was just hanging in for dear life at that point

As a Hinch fan, I’m gutted to see him not make the cut. However, I’m glad to see him and team accept the consequences. If they were able to just go an buy him a spot on the grid....what’s he point of qualifying?

I also love this about Indy, that NOTHING is guaranteed, not even a spot on the grid even if you’re a series regular.

It's worth noting that there is less than 9/10th of a second separating pole position from last qualifier. There is absolutely no room for error when qualifying at Indy.

I'm actually surprised they're not buying, or weren't successful in buying a spot. Bummer he's going to miss this one.
If he's up for it, give Hinch a headset and a spot in the booth. Might make the ABC broadcast worth watching.

Leena Gade splits with Hinchcliffe and SPM.

It's a shame and they say it was mutually agreed on. With him sitting 5th in points she clearly understood the car (**EDIT** on road courses but not ovals) but he's going to take a huge hit in points not being in the 500.

According to Marshall Pruett she was fired and it had been building for a few weeks.

That’s too bad about Gade.

Pruett’s article says her services will be in high demand...

Her role at Audi ended mid season, and I never really saw details as to why. It was always just speculated that it was because Audi would later announce its withdrawl from WEC.

She went from Audi to Bentley, and I honestly don’t remember anything remarkable about her time there. She really flew under the radar in GT cars.

Then her relationship with Bentley quietly ended, and she ended up in a very small Indycar team, where she has clearly struggled to adapt. Not saying she doesn’t perhaps deserve more than 5 races to figure things out, but I think with her Le Mans win, she brings too much hype and is expected to deliver more than she actually can.

Something tells me this was a bit of a knee jerk reaction to not making it into the 500. A gut feeling, but I feel that played a role.

With Bentley I think she was in charge of the customer cars division or department kind of like what Brad Kettler is with Audi. I don't think she actually did any engineering on any of the cars. At least that's what I remember.

The one area I was afraid she was going to have trouble in was the ovals. Maybe Wickens being so fast didn't help either. The new boy is lightning quick while the public face of the team is missing the biggest race of the year.

If that was the case, understandable I wouldn’t hear anything about her at Bentley.

Moved to Indiana 10 months ago to pursue a graduate degree in the Geological Sciences. Was not aware there is always blackout of the Indy 500 for local viewers to increase ticket sales.

I am furious. That is such crap.

Are you kidding? Over 9000 horsepower? Oh, wait... 900 horsepower. ;) If this is true, here is something many people wish would say- IndyCar overtaking F1. You know, it's crazy just how fast Indy cars go around Indianapolis. It never ceases to amaze me just how fast and dramatic the action is at Indy.

Can't wait for the Indy 500 next weekend.

Overtake F1 how? Power to weight wise, F1 is still faster, and even if they increase to 900 in 2021, F1 is at 1000 horsepower right now.

I've never been a big fan of Danica's, at least while she was in Nascar (I think she was overrated just because she's a women), but I think it would be awesome if she took the win in her last race. Otherwise, go Graham Rahal and everyone have a fun, safe race!

Cheers!

What I would pay to have a commercial free broadcast here in the US. Lap 7 and they already went to break.

At least you can watch it live. There is a blackout for the race for central indiana. We have to either buy a ticket or watch the race at 8pm -_-

Dissapointing to see that the cars aren't keeping as close together as they have the past couple years...

Oh man, now I can't complain at all. That's a shame. I'd be so fearful of someone spoiling it for me prior to the re-airing.
I'd whip out the old radio, grab a bear, and listen to the race on my porch if I was in that situation. Hope that they restore power soon for you.

I have it for free.

 Wow we're really getting screwed over here.

Looks like a High-speed, single-file parade so far. The high ambient temperatures are really wreaking havoc on the drivers today.

EDIT: And James Davison brings out the first Caution, Takuma Sato out as well
.

Danica Patrick is out of the Indianapolis 500.

Lost the back end in the middle of turn 2. Very similar crash to Ed Jones.
