There was never an NBA team that did not have a starting five player 6'7" or taller since the 1960s... until my 2019 Houston Rockets put forth their team. After all the trading, the Rockets managed to defeat the Los Angeles Lakers 122-112 last night in Los Angeles. Ex-Rocket-turned-Rocket-again Robert Covington put on some great scoring late to lift the Rockets past the Lakers. I am not sure if this glorified smaller lineup will work or not, but I do think they might get ripped apart by teams with legitimate big men. In a car sense, this is like going from a V8 engine to a V6 or maybe a peppy Inline-6. So we may have essentially made ourselves "the little team that could." I wonder how far this new style could take the Rockets...

The NBA has hit the All-Star Break. So how are the teams doing as they head into the All-Star Break? I have prepared this Standings Update to prove points. Find your favorite team(s) here (Sources: Yahoo! Sports and NBA.COM):

I actually had to re-do my post because I thought there were no games for February 13. I had this post all lined up for February 13 to post, but this is the true day where no games are scheduled during this All-Star Break. Set me straight if I still botched certain stats. Other than that, enjoy the 2020 NBA All-Star Game festivities from Chicago!

Seeing here that the Philadelphia Sixers currently have the best home record in the league right now, I'm actually quite concerned how this team will fare well in the playoffs since they have a mediocre record in their road standings. Because of this, it leaves big wonders how they can get past over Eastern teams that will clinch higher seeds than them come the time.

By the way, I wonder where all those fans of the Golden State Warriors went. They seemed to have become mum for this season after knowing that their favorite team most likely won't make the postseason for the first time in 8 years.

Also worth noting is that the Toronto Raptors have managed to record a franchise-best 15-consecutive wins and even without Leonard, they still managed to win 40 games faster this time in 54 games than last season. I guess Nick Nurse's defensive scheme really helps a lot. Still, a big question remains how they will defend their NBA title once the regular season concludes.

Leonard's Clippers, on the other hand, are not turning out to be the invincible team people expected in the West. They have yet to win 40 games but dismissing them for their current record would be a bit premature. We should not forget that so far, they have not yet lost a single game against their crosstown rival in their last two meetings. If ever they both face in the playoffs, then that might be the most exciting thing to see.

The season gets back underway starting tomorrow. Every game from here on out matters. No other breaks in the regular season. Everything's towards going to the NBA Finals and hoisting the O'Brien Trophy after winning the NBA Finals. The Toronto Raptors are the defending champions. Everyone still has a chance to at least make the postseason. My latest post in this thread is a Standings Update of how all of the teams are fairing as we get into the remainder of this season.

Having said all of this... make the most of this remaining season to make a postseason push and even have a chance to win it all. Enjoy the rest of this 2019-2020 season!

Tonight, the NBA goes back to work. Here are tonight's games to be played to resume the season from the All-Star Break:

* MIL Bucks at DET Pistons
* MIA Heat at ATL Hawks
* CHA Hornets at CHI Bulls
* BKN Nets at PHI 76ers (NBA on TNT)
* MEM Grizzlies at SAC Kings
* HOU Rockets at GS Warriors (NBA on TNT)

Elsewhere, I read former University of Michigan coach John Beilein has resigned as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. He'll have some other role with the team from what I read this morning.

I hope you get to enjoy tonight's action!

The Bucks are now getting close to their 50-win mark of this season after a victory in Detroit. Looks like they'll be guaranteeing another homecourt advantage for throughout of the postseason. :)

So far, I believe the team hasn't lost two consecutive games in a row, which explains why they've not yet lost two-digit losses in their games after half of the season.

Having said that, will the team be bound in the NBA Finals for the first time in nearly 50 years and Giannis winning his first-ever NBA championship ring? Only time will tell...

We have our first "IN!" team for this season's Playoffs! Take a look:

--- Who's IN! - Eastern Conference ---
Milwaukee (clinched Playoff berth)
...Eastern 2...
...Eastern 3...
...Eastern 4...
...Eastern 5...
...Eastern 6...
...Eastern 7...
...Eastern 8...

--- Who's IN! - Western Conference ---
...Western 1...
...Western 2...
...Western 3...
...Western 4...
...Western 5...
...Western 6...
...Western 7...
...Western 8...

Milwaukee clinched a Playoff berth by virtue of their 49-8 record and being ahead of their Eastern opposition by a country mile. They lead in their Division (Central) by 16 over 2nd Place Indiana, and they are 7 games ahead in the East over 2nd Place Toronto. Every other position is still up for grabs. Milwaukee has NOT clinched their Division yet. However, considering this pace, it is probably likely Milwaukee will win the Central Division pending some epic collapse.

Current Division leaders:
EAST - ATLANTIC: Toronto (42-15)
EAST - CENTRAL: Milwaukee (49-8)
EAST - SOUTHEAST: Miami (36-21)
WEST - PACIFIC: Los Angeles Lakers (43-12)
WEST - SOUTHWEST: Houston (37-20)
WEST - NORTHWEST: Denver (39-18)

There you go. Enjoy some NBA action!

Just another update regarding some notable changes in the current rosters of two teams.

Last Feb. 6, Marcus Morris has been acquired by the Los Angeles Clippers via trade with the New York Knicks. Then after two weeks, his own twin, Markieff Morris had agreed to a buyout with the Detroit Pistons. Two days later, he would be signed by the crosstown rival of his twin brother's new team, the Los Angeles Lakers.

However, in the process of doing so, the Lakers had to part ways with DeMarcus Cousins, who tore his own ACL from more than half a year ago, although the team assures him that they'll be interested in signing him again come off-season.

By the way, do you guys remember the number of Boogie's jersey before he went to sign with the Lakers, albeit in one of his old jersey number? Yes, it was #0 so you've guessed it right. Coincidentally, this was also the same number of games he played for the team and he scored for them before waiving him recently.

Just so you know, that's a fun fact. Now, let the season continue as usual.

In advance of tonight's games, here is a look at the standings in the NBA. Find out how your team is doing with this Standings Update:

There's still a lot of basketball to be played. More of the better teams will make their Playoff push this month. So any number of teams will join Milwaukee as Playoff teams for this season this month, if not next. So you all keep playing hard if you're one of the better percentile teams right about now!

Enjoy tonight's action as well as all the NBA action this month.

The playoff entrant list needs to be updated. Here's the latest (see italicized text):

So make it Milwaukee and Toronto now making the Playoffs for the 2019-2020 season. Toronto won at Golden State even in the return of Steph Curry to the GS lineup.

We got the Milwaukee Bucks at the Los Angeles Lakers tonight. BIG match for you NBA fans. Some think this will be the NBA Finals for this season. Whether or not that materializes remains to be seen.

The Houston Rockets got whacked at home 120-105 to the Los Angeles Clippers last night. The Clip Joint led by as much as 29 last night in a game televised on the NBA on TNT. The Rockets will face a back-to-back this weekend starting tomorrow night at the Charlotte Hornets followed by a Sunday night game hosting the Orlando Magic. That leads into my latest assessment...

The 2019-2020 Houston Rockets are 39-22 on the season after suffering back-to-back losses (at NY and vs. LAC). Going to small ball (or "micro-ball") has meant the Rockets are too reliant on having James Harden and Russell Westbrook being the primary scoring outlets. They also are too reliant on the three-pointer as part of their offense. When either or both elements struggle, they will fall. I fear the Rockets will likely get shredded by more complete and more physical teams going with this small lineup. Moving forward, if the Rockets are to have ANY championship aspirations, they need to execute more consistently. Outside of Harden and Westbrook, I most enjoy the play of Danuel House Jr. and Robert Covington. R. Covington has been quite sneaky banking three-pointers. Otherwise, the pressure is going to be too overbearing to where the Rockets have a better chance of defeating themselves than defeating the other team on the court.

That's all from me. And if you want to assess your favorite team(s) or some other team, feel free to speak up. Otherwise... keep enjoying the 2019-2020 NBA season!

The NBA may cancel or postpone games due to the Coronavirus/COVID-19. The game at Golden State tomorrow will have no fans in attendance. Be sure to follow the different NBA news for how games could be affected (if at all) from the Coronavirus. All of you please be careful.

On a different note, the Houston Rockets remembered how to win games again, snapping their four-game losing streak the visiting Minnesota Timberwolves last night. Their next game is at the Los Angeles Lakers tomorrow night. I can pretty much see this as a loss.

NBA Season has been officially suspended following a positive test for the coronavirus by Utah Jazz C Rudy Gobert.

This is awful, man. We often think of things like sports as being escapes from various issues, but even athletes have lives of their own and are affected by things like Coronavirus/COVID-19. Surely sad to see this happen. I wouldn't be surprised if various other leagues in America besides the NBA take similar measures. Other sports in other countries made their own restrictions for sure.

[OMISSION] The 2019-2020 NBA season has been cancelled because of Coronavirus/COVID-19, but also apparently the G-League has also been cancelled for this 2019-2020 season. The whole deal regarding Rudy Gobert is bringing some people on social media into an uproar. Sad seeing this season like this.

Recently reported...

Four Brooklyn Nets players tested positive for COVID-19/Coronavirus. Their last game prior to this positive test was when they played the Los Angeles Lakers. So there may be some trickle-down if perhaps some Lakers may also have been infected.

[UPDATE] It was also recently reported that Kevin Durant has tested positive for COVID-19/Coronavirus. K.D. says he's fine, though.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver went on ESPN recently to discuss the NBA's plans to continue the 2019-2020 season. The league is eyeing a resumption of the season to be around mid-June or so. A. Silver thinks either have the season as normal with fans in the stands, they may play games without fans in the stands, or maybe some kind of charitable deal by the players help in further battling and containing COVID-19/Coronavirus. The main thing to digest here is that the NBA is trying to resume the season some time around mid-June.

If we get basketball, hockey, and baseball all summer long I'll be really happy because that means a steady flow of sports for the rest of the year without that weird lull that happens around the MLB all-star break.

The NBA is considering coming up with a charity competition while the 2019-2020 season is suspended. It reminds me of when I attended the only NBA style game I've ever attended, when there was a Hurricane Katrina game here in Houston where I attended Toyota Center. So I wonder how the NBA would put together this whole deal and who all will play in this charity competition.

With the NFL recently announcing it will do the NFL Draft virtually and with a good amount of social distancing, I have a hunch the NBA Draft (and maybe even the WNBA Draft) may follow suit. I may update the latest college basketball thread with news on whom has declared for the NBA Draft. This is just something I've thought of while this whole world is basically on lock down or quarantine.

A funny thing for me is that I still get Microsoft Outlook/Calendar updates on what Rockets games are going to happen. Same goes for updates on my smartphone and tablet PC. In fact, today would have been the start of the 2019-2020 Playoffs. The COVID-19/Coronavirus has disrupted everything, of course. The season isn't cancelled; there is still some hope of trying to complete the season. Trying to complete the regular season and all the playoff matches could extend into late July or even early August at this point.

Keep hopeful if you're an NBA fan! Also remember to stay safe!

When I was watching local news this morning, there was something I heard in which states that do not have "Stay at Home" orders will have NBA players able to practice at NBA facilities starting this Friday. So it is possible players and teams can finally get back to playing basketball for real, or at least, prepare for getting back to normal. I'm sure any plans to resume the 2019-2020 NBA season will have to do so without fans in the stands or with very limited and restricted guidelines and social distancing. Perhaps you NBA fans can be proud that at least some sort of "normal" is being established and that we all can be excited again for sports to return amid this COVID-19/Coronavirus pandemic.

[UPDATE] Recently, the NBA retracted on letting players practice again in states lifting "Stay at Home" orders until next Friday. So May 8 will be the earliest in which teams could practice at NBA facilities.

Could the 2019-2020 season be saved by playing the rest of its season at Walt Disney World? That is an interesting plan that I read when I was looking at my Android notifications. I later came across this article explaining what makes Disneyworld a fine location for games: https://sports.yahoo.com/nba-finish...navirus-pandemic-player-safety-020438272.html . I am somewhat familiar with sporting events at Walt Disney World. I've seen things like Grade School basketball and competitive cheerleading (competitive cheerleading IS a sport to me) that was held there. It is a novel idea nonetheless.

I think this is all great that Florida is doing a lot of the sports during this COVID-19/Coronavirus pandemic. My only concern is... how will Florida fare if/once tropical storms and such and stuff impacts the state? Stuff like this could delay games further. If this is what it takes to save the 2019-2020 season from being cancelled, then so be it.

On this day in 1971...

The Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Baltimore Bullets 118-106 in Game 4 of the NBA Finals to win the NBA Championship. The 1970-1971 Milwaukee Bucks earned their first and only NBA Championship. If today's Bucks could go on some kind of baller run, they might capture their 2nd-ever NBA championship. Oh... and Milwaukee had people named Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson on that Bucks team along with that cool (and kind of cute!) Milwaukee Bucks logo. Those guys came out pretty good, if I recall correctly.

Not much NBA news to share of late. Something I have heard, though, is that the 2020-2021 season could start around Christmas and end in July or August. You may remember when the NBA had that 2011-2012 season where snags in the Collective Bargaining Agreement lead to the NBA trying to jam in a 60-something game season. This plan seems like that 2011-2012 season, only this one will try to do the full 82-game distance.

I haven't followed it, but most of the NBA talk of any kind has been about ESPN's "The Last Dance" 10-part documentary on the 1998 Chicago Bulls. It is providing perspective on Michael Jordan and all of the other pieces that have showcased sides of Michael Jordan and his clique. You all may want to share some thoughts on this documentary series if you've been watching.

Today begins the slow return of NBA action. A number of teams have been allowed to open their practice facilities today. Now is the time for everyone to pretty much get back into form as best as they can. Some say to do away with this current season and get ready for 2020-2021. Whatever side of the fence you're on, the slow return of live basketball is impending. To what level and to what precautions remain to be seen.

It is said NBA teams and owners will make decisions in the next two to four weeks as to whether or not to resume the 2019-2020 NBA season. So we will have an idea of what this suspended season will bring. The next phase is in determining how to play out the rest of the season if indeed it is resumed. Do you play at neutral sites (and where?)? Do all of the teams and players play? A lot of issues will be addressed and perhaps resolved between now and sometime in June.

(Tree'd)

It is with great sadness to report that Jerry Sloan has died today. He died from complications from Parkinson's Disease. The Hall of Fame coach is about 4th all-time on the coaching wins list. He was one of currently two coaches to amass 1K or more wins with a single team. He even took his Utah Jazz to NBA Finals twice. My condolences go out to all who known and loved Jerry Sloan. J. Sloan was 78 years old at the time of his passing.

How will you remember Jerry Sloan?
