The #8 car had already won last year. They can just let #7 has some fun this year before LMP1H is gone for good.
There's a championship to be considered. The #7 has to win and hope something happens to the #8 car. The #8 car only needs 7th place.

I don't know if there are other legal streams available, but the Dutch network locked it behind a paywall.

The #8 will want to win this race. Buemi has said he expects the car to be better after dark. LMP1-H is around for another year too.

Only if it is classified.

I might be missing something here, but barring disqualification from contravention of the race rules, how else will they not be classified if they complete at least 75% of the race winner's distance?

Oh you know, spending hours and hours in the pits.

Another stupid thing the ACO changed is the colour of the GTE car's headlights. How are drivers on track going to tell apart classes at night now?

Shocking BOP change has killed the Aston. First to 13th in just over an hour.

It’s the double-edged sword nature of BOP: get it right and the field is close and competitive. Get it wrong and those affected might as well not turn up on the grid.

Can someone link to a radio le mans thing so I can have that playing on my phone instead of the Frenchies? I have MotorTrend too but they're not using Radio Le Mans right?

Motortrend uses the Eurosport feed for this race. I had forgotten about this when I told someone a day or two ago that they used the WEC feed.

I figured they had some sort of issue I missed that dropped them back there. They dropped to 13th purely out of the BoP hit?
Nikki said the tyres went off quicker than expected but the Corvette just drove straight past.

Fords sitting nice and steady in GTE Pro, bar a drive-through for the #67 for an unsafe release, otherwise all is good so far, touch wood. Feel sorry for the Aston's, a rather silly late BoP change for them, wasn't really needed, as it's pretty much spot on otherwise shockingly .

Toyota's running well so far, again touch wood, though the #8 has s bit of work to do to closer the gap. Still, plenty to go, things have calmed down a bit, but GTE-Pro remaining tense and action packed 👍.

I don't get why it was necessary with the qualifying results so close.
The BMWs got hit before test day and it was to be expected that they wouldn't be competitive. I wonder why the even bothered to show up at the race. It certainly feels like the ACO wanted to punish them for their late exit from the WEC.

Now the thing that worries me is that this kind of BoP will be used for the top class soon.

In German TV, it seems the TV hosts have some kind of embargo to talk about the BoP. They mentioned that there were changes, but that overall, it works out well. Yet they didn't tell that the Aston Martins got hit pre-race and instead, talked about how "race speed is not the same as qualifying speed".

(Of course I haven't heard 100% of the commentary and maybe the talked about it in more detail. But I was surprised that they didn't mention it when it was obvious right from the beginning that the pole-sitting Aston Martin had a disadvantage in Top Speed).

I'm loving my Corvettes up front, but I really feel for Aston Martin. How can they be hurt that much by the BoP change - was it that drastic an amount?

Also, just like last year: what is the point of LMP1, or should I say, Toyota's battle to decide how they finish 1-2? How can an organization let the regulations/BoP be so bad across a class - especially the top class like this? It might as well be LMP1-A (Toyota) and LMP1-B (all other P1's). Several seconds a lap advantage is ridiculous. I would probably feel differently if I had a horse in that race and they had the advantage, but as a racing fan it is rather embarrassing to be honest.

Edit: I realize BoP is a tricky thing, but how can they consistently get it that wrong?
