I knew the streak was going to end very soon and I really expected it to end against Man U but not Burnley. Probably a draw against Burnley at best but certainly not a straight out loss. At this point I don't know how far we're going to slide down. I thought once Van Dijk went out we would be winning games like a few years ago 4-3, 5-4, etc. but I never thought lack of offense would be our main problem.

It's like Norris' helmet from Silverstone last year, if it hits you in the feels, the "quality" of the art itself doesn't necessarily matter.

Forgot to mention that there is one league game tomorrow, its Aston Villa v Newcastle at 8pm and its not televised.

I'm not convinced about our chances yet, City have a game in hand.
We've been too inconsistent for a long time for me to get too excited yet. I'm loving every minute of this don't get me wrong, but I'm not expecting 21 in 21 yet, there's a long way to go.

City can go ahead, Leicester shouldn't be dismissed, Liverpool are going thorugh a bad spell but I don't think it'll take much for them to get going again. They're still dominating teams they're just not scoring, so it's not the defence where they have the main injury problems causing them trouble it's misfiring forwards. So I expect them to start firing again at some point and probably sooner rather than later.

My money (if I were a betting man) would be on City winning the title this year, but it's a very open race at the moment and it's more exciting for it.

Huge blow for Man City as De Bruyne is out for around six weeks with a knee injury, this is on top of Aguero testing positive for Covid.

Wolves beat Chorley 1-0 in the FA cup tonight, Vitinha with the goal in the 12th minute.

Current FA Cup holders Arsenal were knocked out by Southampton earlier, Saints won 1-0 and the goal game from a Gabriel own goal in the first half.

After @Famine's post about Papa Boupa Diop a few weeks ago, another footballer has died of ALS complications; former Sheffield United striker and all-time top goalscorer for Jamaica, Luton Shelton.
Very sad to hear whenever anything like that happens.

Other than the Arsenal Game which was between two close teams, the other games all ended up with fairly predictable scorelines, although Man City did go behind to Cheltenham before they pulled thier socks up and ended up 3-1 winners.

There's been a lot of speculation that Amad Diallo will be in the United squad to face Liverpool tomorrow, will be interesting to see himfollowing the hype, but we have to remember he's only 19 and will probably be far from the finished article.

Cheltenham were fantastic earlier and can be proud of themselves, they tired towards the end and that's when City got three goals in the last 13 minutes, great cup tie.

Villa beat Newcastle 2-0 in the only league game this weekend, Watkins and Traore with first half goals, Newcastle were poor again and its another nail in Bruce's coffin.

Chelsea 3-1 Luton.
Fulham 0-3 Burnley.
Brentford 1-3 Leicester.
Man United 3-2 Liverpool.

A Tammy Abraham hat-trick gave Chelsea a fairly comfortable win, Kepa should have done better for Luton's goal scored by Jordan Clark and Werner continued his bad form by having a penalty saved.

Jay Rodriguez scored twice and Kevin Long got the other in Burnley's win, Brentford took the lead against Leicester thanks to a corner headed in by Mads Sorensen, Rodgers must have said something to his team at half time as they came out firing in the second half, Under and a Tielemans penalty put Leicester in front before Maddison got the eventual winner.

United-Liverpool just finished and what a game! Salah gave Liverpool the lead before Greenwood equalised just six minutes later after a great pass from Rashford and it was 1-1 at HT, Rashford then coolly slotted in to make it 2-1 at the start of the second half and then Salah got his and Liverpool's second, Liverpool were dominating when Fernandes came on, and he scored the eventual winner from a great free kick around 10 minutes from the end. Great game and so much better than the league game between the two last week, and a United win!!👍:D

Everton 3-0 Sheffield Wednesday. Calvert-Lewin, Mina and Richarlison with the goals in a comfortable win for Everton.

No shocks yet in this round with Wycombe v Spurs and Bournemouth v Crawley still to come.

United v Liverpool was a great match, it was what the press were hyping up the league game last week up to be. But we all know league games can be much cagier affairs as losing is a bigger deal in the league than the cup. I do think United were the better team overall, but Liverpool played well, both teams had periods of dominance.

I think when Liverpool scored the first goal to take the lead it was against the run of play at that point in the game and likewise when we scored our 3rd goal with the free kick it was also against the run of play at that moment as well. Some good goals too, the first goal by Salah was a great chip and a superb through ball. the pass for Greenwoods goal was also superb and a great touch and finish.

A great result for United, a few positives for Liverpool as well, they've ended thier goal drought and no doubt will be looking to carry over into the league too.

Its been wildly reported that Frank Lampard will be sacked by Chelsea today, former Dortmund and PSG coach Thomas Tuchel set to replace him.

One bad run of form and he's gone, didn't get time to turn it around, club legend as well.

A bit of a weird decision, quite a heartless one as well.

It's half way through the season and considering it's been a "disaster" at Chelsea they are only 5 points off 4th (6 points if the teams around win thier games in hand). It's hardly doomsday for them, 2 rounds of favourable results and they're top 4. But it's Chelsea who aren't known for thier patience.

Interesting (maybe) facts, Chelsea have spend over £110m on managerial payoffs under Abramovich's reign:

Also they are the largest loss makers in the Premier League since it's inception in 1992:

Wycombe 1-4 Spurs.

Similar to the Cheltenham-City game, Wycombe took the lead through Onyedinma before Bale equalised right before half time, Spurs kept plugging away in the second half and brought Kane and Son on from the bench. a late flourish came with a great Winks strike and two goals from Ndombele all in the last minutes, fair play to Wycombe.

FA Cup fifth round draw.

Burnley v Bournemouth/Crawley.
Man United v West Ham
Sheff Utd v Bristol City.
Wolves v Southampton
Barnsley v Chelsea
Everton v Tottenham
Swansea v Man City
Leicester v Brighton

Games to be played on 9, 10 and 11th of February which is a mid week, Bournemouth-Crawley will be played tomorrow night, the game was delayed because of a Covid situation at Crawley.

----------------------------------------------------------

Here are the Premier League games for mid week this week.

Newcastle v Leeds (6pm)
Southampton v Arsenal (8.15)
West Brom v Man City (8.15)

Wednesday.
Burnley v Aston Villa (6pm)
Chelsea v Wolves (6pm)
Brighton v Fulham (7.30)
Everton v Leicester (8.15)
Man United v Sheffield United (8.15)

Thursday.
Tottenham v Liverpool (8pm)

All games are live on BT Sport.

Newcastle 1-2 Leeds.
Palace 2-3 West Ham.
Southampton 1-3 Arsenal.
West Brom 0-5 Man City.

Leeds back on track with a good win over Newcastle, Newcastle played better tonight. West Ham up to fourth after their win, another man of the match performance from Arsenal's Saka who got a goal and an assist, City were 0-4 up at half time, two goals each from Gundogan and Mahrez and the other was score by Cancelo. City go top.

Plenty of goals tonight.

Chelsea 0-0 Wolves
Burnley 3-2 Aston Villa
Brighton 0-0 Fulham
Man United 1-2 Sheffield United
Everton 1-1 Leicester

Tuchel's reign at Chelsea began with a rather drab 0-0, didn't see all the game but Chelsea were better in the second half and they had over 800 passes in the game, Burnley came from 1-0 and 2-1 down to battle back in impressive fashion, Brighton-Fulham was a bit rubbish but Brighton had the better chances, James Rodriguez scored a Worldie for Everton.

I have been thinking of what to write about Man United in a rational sensible way after tonight's performance, We have been doing brilliantly lately to be where we are in the league but tonight it was another example of how bad we can be and how bad we have been in the last eight (nearly nine) years, no fight or desire against the worst team in the league and again there was too many players just not turning up, massive win for Sheffield United and credit to them, and a big step back for us.

I am fuming.

It was a shocking performance against Sheffiedl United, who to thier credit played thier game plan brilliantly. The dissallowed goal was harsh, very harsh, but it still doesn't transform our performance into a good one. It just highlights the issues with inconsistency in our squad. You'd think the team selected would be good enough to have dominated that match, and on another day it would have, but there are still too many players in the squad where it seems to depends what mood they are in.

Big missed opportunity for us, we need to bounce back but Arsenal won't be easy. They may be mid-table right now but they will be as up for it as anyone tomorrow. Let's hope City don't just run away with it now they're top with a game in hand, but they've been my favourites foe the title this season for a couple of months now. I just don't want to see us go on a bad run and start dropping places which these players have done before.

Motherwell's Bevis Mugabi scored with a header in Wednesday nights win over Ross County. I don't know if it's just the low camera angle, but it looks like an absolutely massive leap.

Southampton v Aston Villa (8pm Sky)

Sunday.

Liverpool got back on track last night with a 3-1 over Spurs, Firmino, Trent and Salah with the Liverpool goals and Hojbjerg with Spurs goal who were pretty poor, Kane and Matip both went off injured at half time.

There are league games in mid week next week as well.

The racist abuse that United players Martial and Tuanzebe suffered after the Sheffield United defeat is repulsive, Martial's wife was also the target of abuse.
