Too many, 20 is enough. Its just greed by liberty media. I adore F1, but what about regular fans who, work mon to fri, have children ? We are expected to give up most weekends for races, people don’t have time for it, i get 2 days off a week and most of them seem to get taken up by F1 already. I remember when an F1 race was something to look forward to, a special event, not anymore, its just yet another race. I think 16 races would be spot on.

They need to try rotating races. Have a core few that stay on the calendar every year by fan vote/history (Silverstone, Monza, Monaco, Spa, Montreal, Hungary, Melbourne, Japan, Brazil, USA) and then rotate the others on a year on-year off way.

Alternate Bahrain and Abu Dhabi, Singapore and Malaysia, France and Spain, Russia and Azerbaijan, Germany and Austria. That cuts out a few races while keeping them all in contract.

That's.... actually a great idea.

No season would be the same as the previous one, mixing up the tracks so you don't see the same each year, and F1 can keep harvesting those sweet, sweet monies from whichever suspicious country is willing to dump public money to host a race.

That's a rehash of someone else's article (motorsport.com). Jalopnik used to be (a bit) better than that, I don't know what's happened to them in the last year or so.

However, the Dutch government has already indicated that it wants to lend a helping hand as much as possible. According to Minister Bruno Bruins 'the whole of the Netherlands' is served by a successful Grand Prix on home soil

Dutch GP organisers are following the issue closely, but they do not worry about nitrogen emissions in advance.

"A special Committee will give its verdict, but we don't expect any exceeding of the nitrogen emission in our plans," said a statement from the track. "We build temporary stands (not permanent) and will adapt the circuit according to plans that the FIA and FOM have seen and approved.

"And because the Dutch Grand Prix event takes four weeks to build up and finish, there is also a direct and significant reduction in CO2 emissions as a result of fewer races on track during those weeks."

Dutch GP chief Jan Lammers added: "People are now working hard on permits and legal matters. I want to let them do their job quietly and leave it at that."

Miami isn't going down without a fight!
Now they want a track at the Hard Rock Stadium.

How can you tell that the track is stupid from that one photo?

Super Best Friends is from Southpark

First thought...how did a row of yachts get inside the race track...
*looks at track on google maps*
Oh they put them in a swimming pool... Makes sense.

Anyway, not a big fan of this parking lot racing. Wish I lived in a parallel universe where F1 still raced at the Glen.

I have doubts about whether this Miami GP will ever go ahead considering the amount of support it's so far gotten relative to the amount of going ahead it so far hasn't done

If it does go ahead I'd probably expect it to just wind up being at Homebase

Well, at least I can say I've driven half the track before. Test data bidding starts at $1,000,000 but I'll discount it 10% if you use the order code PHILHILL. I can assure you my social media account won't go rogue, and @Omnis will do the reconnaissance work.

Ugh, they shouldn't leave Austin's COTA for this featureless design, no matter how much of a pipe dream I may have wanted it 30 years ago. Also, it's really hot and humid in May, though chances for a rainy race are pretty good.

Trust a longtime Floridian and F1 fan on this: It's stupid.

I thought the idea was for this to be the 2nd US GP of the season?

No offence, but at this point I don’t trust any fan’s opinion on whether or not a track will be good or stupid, until it’s actually been raced on.

People thought Baku would be stupid, but it’s been absolutely brilliant.

For a temporary American street circuit, it actually has quite a number of fast and medium speed corners. Any race on any circuit in Miami has decent chance of being interesting because of how fast the weather changes (I’m sure you know this)

I could show a circuit map of Bathurst, or spa, Monza or Macau, to someone who hasn’t seen a race there, and chances are I could find people who would call the circuits stupid based on the circuit map.

It's stupid. One rain storm and the giant parking lot that they're making into the track will flood. It's also situated right smack dab in the ghetto. People are going to starting shooting in the general direction of all the noise.

That parking lot floods every time it rains in Miami?

So, like Interlagos?

Even Circuit Gille Villeneuve is closer to some shady parts of Montreal than it is to “nice” areas. The south side of the St Laurence Seaway, literally across the rowing lane, is not exactly upscale

I mean....Formula E races in Brooklyn, so I really don’t see what the big deal is about the type of neighbourhood that surrounds a track.

I don’t know LA that well, but I imagine the Long Beach circuit isnt exactly far from Nipsy Hussle’s hood, and is what, a 15-20 minute drive from Inglewood, Compton, etc.

Yeah but they keep pumping it up like it's glamorous Miami. It's a **** hole.

F1 should do the Charlotte Roval. Or the Glen. Or Road America. Or Virginia International. Or Laguna Seca. but that one might be a bit too short.

If they can worm themselves into city centres, or ******** Zandvoort, any of those aforementioned will do, and probably better. If they want another US race that much, use one of the existing tracks. The ones that have an actual history of races.

I’m a country boy, so I’ll agree with you on that point about any metropolitan, urban centre. New York City, including Manhattan, is a literal 🤬 hole. When the subways pass underneath you, the most foul smelling air you’ll ever smell in your life gets blasted straight up your nostrils. Look up 🤬 hole in the dictionary, there’s a picture of NYC’s skyline.

From many of the images and videos I’m seeing coming out of LA and San Francisco, those places are literal 🤬 holes

According to the most trusted name in news, it’s actually rural Americans, with their assault style rifles, who are the real threat. Hosting an F1 race in upstate New York, or at a sleeping town in Wisconsin, or the middle of Ohio, would be extremely dangerous :P

No, I dont think you understand. The race on biscayne bay would have been flashy Bernie appropriate for F1. The football stadium is in Miami Gardens aka the ****tiest place in the south Florida metropolitan area. The only thing to do is tailgate and then get on the highway back home.

Can someone explain why they aren't just doing this at the track that already is in Miami surely that'd require less work and stuff?

Homestead does have one of the better roval layouts as evidenced by Forza Motorsport. It also doesn't use the banking if that if that is still and issue.

The Homestead road course is aight, but it’s really nothing special. It’d be a really small track for F1 (not that that necessarily is purely a bad thing).

If they can’t do a Miami street race but insist on a race in Florida, I’d rather see them just go to Daytona. Sure the circuit itself isn’t spectacular, but the venue is pretty great. Seeing the F1 cars on the banking is always cool too. Would be some amazing slip stream battles, and the bus stop would be wicked fast. No idea how it would work with the way the pits are set up though.

This, folks. Miami Springs is a hastily thrown-together joke. There's an actual garbage dump right nearby. Or perhaps you'd prefer a cement plant? There is zero glamor nor natural beauty nearby, just some tract housing and a bunch of straight-line roads.

Interlagos has 80 years of history behind it, and it's a kick-ass track with elevation and no two corners are the same. Not here. Maybe it could provide a great race; Silverstone and Barcelona can sometimes provide excitement, and sometimes Spa and Suzuka have snore-fests.

This is like the Ceasar's Palace track, minus the casinos and other attractions within walking distance. There is literally no thing nearby Dolphins Stadium which anyone would want to go during the week of the event. It's 30-60 minutes to South Beach, and about that far to anything for shopping, attractions, or culture.

This is what happens when nobody wants a disruptive race in their backyard and you might not have a billion dollars lying around for a new track.
