I kinda wonder if he's just not into it. He can do better than he has, I don't remember how active he was in practice over the years, but I think he may just be going through the motions, like he's good with retirement.

They have totally changed the engines, aero packages, and nearly everything else in the three years he's been away. He stepped in mid-season, in a car he's never driven, with a team he's still not allowed to meet at the shop, and for a crew chief that was used to setting up cars for Kyle Larson. Every week, the first lap he gets on track is the green flag. Apparently, the setups/notes they used for Larson aren't great for Matt's driving style, so they are having some difficult weekends. Practice would go a long way in helping him get more comfortable in the car.

I agree there's a serious problem between the crew chief and Kenseth. I think they've now changed the crew chief.

Darlington throwback time again, and I might be able to deal with Logano for this one.

ALSO: Blaney is running a car based on Paul Menard's 2003 ARCA Talladega win, The 21 is going to 1963, Bowyer is paying tribute to Kyle Petty's 1990 Peak car. Lastly, I haven't seen anyone say anything about it, but Bojangles is not sponsoring the race, so it's likely gonna be The Southern 500, as it should be IMO.

Austin Dillon has COVID, Kaz Grala in the 3 this weekend.

Big oof, hope Dillon has a quick recovery. Good thing he picked up that win in Texas. As for Grala, I don't watch Trucks that often so this'll be my first time seeing him turn a wheel. By all accounts he seems to be a solid driver, though.

Grala is a good driver (and somewhat of a road course specialist) but has only made 6 starts in the top 3 series overthe last 2 seasons. Last week was the first time Grala had raced in a year. Allmendinger is apparently RCR’s usual backup Cup driver, but he’s not allowed to race this week due to everyone only being allowed to race in one series. Which is too bad, he would’ve been a threat for the win.

I wasn't able to watch it, but it appears ARCA managed to run their Daytona road course race without turning it into a gong show. Hopefully the top 3 series can do the same.

Ignoring the current lightning delay (which probably couldn't have come at a better time for the drivers), so far I gotta say this has been a pretty ok race imo. A lot less (major) chaos than I expected, but not that much aggressive racing. The drivers are probably still getting a feel for things even at this point in the race, and are still being cautious.

I'm hoping NASCAR decides to return to the roval (just not in the summer), but with proper qualifying and practice. I still think that if drivers had some form of practice, and the teams had more data to determine the best setup for the race car, that the quality of the racing would be better.

The difference in lap times thru the field is incredible. Definitely would be a better race with practice.

Kyle Busch lost his brakes into the new chicane and he's out. He'll finish no higher than 37th.*

Edit for Brendan Gaughan going to the garage and he's behind the 18.

edit: Also, testing of the car by NASCAR to resume next week at Dover.

Ehhh...I want to like it...but...no, I can't.

It looks like a mess. I saw it this morning and knew where it was going, but this doesn't work for me. If y'all can dig it, have my share too.

I'm starting to get curious about what the last race car is gonna be.

That was a really nice article to read. I don’t think anyone really thought that Kyle Larson was a racist, but there’s obviously a very serious weight and backlash that comes with using that word. It seems like he’s gone out of his way to go above and beyond to understand his mistake and how to better himself because of it and that’s all you can ask from him as a fan. Now it’s up to a team or sponsor to give him a shot in the big leagues once again
