What chances do you see for Alonso?

I see Alonso qualifying with no problem. His Chevy engine will be no disadvantage. I believe his odds of winning are good but probably not the best. Indy is notoriously one the world's toughest races to win, with 33 mostly strong entrants. But almost a quarter of the field are former winners.

The Mclaren car has been solid this season he has a decent chance I would say. If he doesn't win this time though the next time he does it has to be in a Penske, because outside of a lucky caution or fuel race the Penskes are the likely cars to win on Merit.

It doesn't help that Chevrolet seems to be struggling with the exception of the #21 (so far).

Edit: After the first round of qualifying the best Chevrolet is VeeKay in 5th, the next is Newgarden in 13th.

I'm aware that 500 miles is a long way to go and many things can happen - and their opposite, too - but the qualifying doesn't give much hope to them. I don't really have any favorite team or driver, the field has a very good quality in my eyes, just asking. OK, OK, gotta admit that despite not being an Alonso fan on any level, it certainly would be a historic act to grab the Triple Crown but I'd much rather have Holton Certa (or Colton Herta ) drinking milk at the end

Penske and ECR (both chevy teams) looked strong on race pace with the Penske’s especially being able to follow closer than any of the others. Will that be enough to offset the raw pace of the Hondas? That’s yet to be seen, but it’s likely not going to be just a Honda dominated race. I’m keeping my eye on Conor Daly since I think Cole Pearn has brought another level to that team and to Conor and remain stoic about Alonso’s chances given that Arrow McLaren SP don’t look the strongest at the speedway.
