This is why I'm shopping for Itasha livery. Might as well give them something entertaining to look at on the rear tailgate. I'm almost as fast as everything else up until the back straight. Then it goes into park instead of top gear as the thing seems to top out at 125mph there.
Currently looking at one of the nice liveries from @RX8 Racer
Someone should make a livery that's just the view of the back straight on the tailgate. That way, when people are following on the back straight they'll just think it's the back straight and bump draft you. 😉🤣🥸

Hmm. 22B.

Did an 8:12.841 switching the torque distriubtion. Left it set to 50:50, for my second run and dropped to 8:08.293. Half hour to go to make a quick livery.

I've done that before. Don't think a little grass is going to scare me.
No, true.
However remember I'm a B and B's aren't always so clever. People will either put me onto the grass in frustration or take to the grass to pass. They will forget dirty tyres and go off to see Barry R.

That was great fun. I’m n with @Raptor013 and @05XR8 . Door 8. Q7 after being held up badly by a GT40 with a penalty. A clean run and I suspect I get Q2.

Race was really good. The Porsche is fantastic in race. It’s quicker than the GT40s at the top end and has much better acceleration. Once you’re in front of them they won’t get past unless you make a mistake.

I was p5 with half a lap to go and got by a GT40 at Bergwerk. Held the position all the way down the straight, even with the Ford in slip distance, only to enter the last chicane too hot and run off. Avoided major carnage but dropped to p7. So frustrating after such a good race by my standards.

126 points, should be one and done but it’s so much fun I’m tempted to go again later.

First mistake: Going out late. Second mistake: staying behind sow moving vehicles.
Third mistake: Not passing a car with a penalty. Qualified 8th when i should have been up around P5.

The car that had the penalty, I let it go way before the PZ. I left a big gap. By the time I got to around T4, that same car was recovering from an off. It didn't let me by. I wasn't going to force it. Waited.....waited.... waited... waited.... It goes off at the fast left handers. Rides the armco so it doesn't enter onto the track and collect me. I slow though. Wait for it to slide onto the track. The player keeps it under control. Finally lets me pass. Lost so much time.

I was ahead of so many S-FRs. Those things don't even seem worth the time.

The car in 14th just barges past me. I was slowing for the S-Frs that were out of control. Then, 14th place goes after a different S-FR and proceeds to barge, push, shove. I'm flashing the lights like crazy! 14th calms down and eventually goes off before the Big Karrusell.
From there, I wait behind S-FRs. Even waited behind P8(started one place behind me) down the straight. Figured it would be later under brakes and through the beginning of the lap. Nope. I was all over it. Passed some cars going off and made it down from 12th to P9.

Good work by Dragline to qualy ahead. I let him past during qualy. Should have either passed all the slow movers or ran with him on the warm up lap.

Make no doubts, the Z8 is mega. Grip for days and easy to steer. Pick the Z8, if you don't know what to run.

Absolutely agree about getting out early. I gave most of the field a 3 minute head start and was in p7 by the time I started my flying lap. You were one of only two cars who let me past, all the others just tootled along oblivious until I found some track to go by. It had become very clear to me very early that it would be bad to spend the flying lap caught behind a slow runner and everyone was just inexplicably bunching up.

The S-FRs are horrible. They’re so slow in most of the circuit that getting stuck behind one spells death. I got lucky with track position and mostly avoided being held up in the race. I’d also reiterate that I think the GT40 is not a great choice. It’s going to be the most popular but it’s ludicrously tall gearing and reliance on downforce make it hard to drive in traffic. IMO the 996 and the F50 are stronger race cars.

Great race with @ShiftingGears and a few other familiar names. Went with the 996 GT3 and quali 5th behind a quartet of GT40s. Unfortunately my plan to take advantage of the GT40's slow start didn't work because we start on the downhill part of Dottinger, so that helps them get up to speed quicker. One GT40 in front wiped out at Flugplatz. Then I got passed by an F50 before the hairpin (the driver is usually a top split runner so I knew he has more pace and decided to let him go to try and disrupt the cars ahead). But he couldn't make any headway either and pretty much stayed 1-2 secs ahead of me the whole race. Not much happened but I can tell you on the driver's seat it was tense the whole way. Nobody made any mistakes  From 1st to myself in 5th were only separated by 7 seconds in the end, and then a huge gap to the rest behind.

Lots of different cars too. SFR, M4, XBOW, a few F50 and of course me in the 996. Lots of GT40s ended up behind the "non-metas" as well. As I always say, Nurburgring always rewards driver more than car, so pick something you're comfortable driving and just enjoy the ride 👍

You just have to get out early enough that you're not pushing to start the lap before the clock hits zero. @LeGeNd-1 and I were last out and put in some disgracefully slow outlaps and got 5th and pole respectively.

I mentioned I started 8th. I actually started 9th. Just noticed an F50 had jumped up from leaving last out of the pits. Started 3rd behind another F50. Slow out lap, last, first or whenever you leave, you just have to be clear of traffic and hope someone isn’t recovering ahead of you.

In true honor I went out to meme it up in the Ford Raptor. Made a mistake on my flying lap and ended up spinning in a stupid spot and having to reverse to get going again. The rest of the lap was just making sure I didnt hold up the GT40s on the straights.

Unfortunately this put me p17 of 18 and where we were starting on the straight let the METAs get a lead on me. I ran up to a few over the first section, but as soon as we hit the straight to Aremberg they were gone. Watching the deltas I was holding my own on the twisty bits, but any length of straight that let those things stretch their legs and it was lost. I lost just about 11 seconds on the long straight alone.
Shame, the tank drove great, just needs some top end. Proof the BoP for N-class is a bit rubbish.
Didnt time out at the back of top split though so all good.

Wow, you guys are fast! First time poster here, I'm only just starting to get more into this game and do the FIA races (and am about to invest in my first sim rig.....but just running with the controller for now). I spent a couple of hours last night and got my practice time down to 7m54 in the GT40, but like others have said....one mistake and you're cooked. I spun on an uphill section one lap and I think it took 5 minutes for it to get faster than walking pace....
That second half of the lap is where I lose my time, hopefully work will be quiet today and I'll get some more practice in so I don't get completely smoked in the race. Is it just me, or do the cars feel completely different in the actual races (even qualifying)? The last one I did, the car felt completely different to drive in qualifying to how it felt in free practice!
Race and qualifying are different from free practice. In free practice, tire wear is turned off and there's no fuel weight in the car. FP is great to learn the combo and set a time for bragging rights but when you're actually practicing for the race you should get into a lobby with the correct race settings. Or at the very least, create a custom race with the settings so you get a feel for the car under race conditions.

@RX8 Racer did create some for the last N300 race (I forget which track I just remember work popped up and ruined my meme race plans).

(Never mind, I see you found them already. )

Well here we go again. 3 GT40s and 8 S-FRs, with 996s, Yariss and an EVO. OH nearly forgot the X-bow and he did wel Q4, but I'm Q3 with 2 S-FRs in front.
Well both guys are German and dirty little "£$%^&* I end up getting 4th, but really had 1st as I passed them at the start and if one hadn't ran me off I MIGHT have stayed there rather than having to fight my ay back up only for the other to run me off as I passed him again. Not a happy chappie and got discoed after the race had finished, but before results confirmed so probably a good thing I didn't win. Going again.

Was in the same lobby as @VulcanSpirit and qualified just in front of them in the midpack. Lap 1 was pretty quiet until the end of the lap where I had an incident with an Italian and I was lucky to come away in the same position though I now had a bit of a train behind me and the pack ahead had pulled away. Started to push a bit more and almost binned it but did manage to get out of slipstream range and after that not much else happened and brought it home in P9. In the end only gained 1 position from incidents up ahead, it seems there weren't too many major mistakes in front of me.

I'm praying to not get thrown in top split for this one. 2nd split with you will be fine for me lol
We'll almost definitely end up in Top Split, since the first slot is 8pm EST on a weeknight. Honestly I'm probably gonna use this round to shed some DR so I hopefully won't be in Top Split in later rounds that I'm actually looking forward to. I can't wait until Slot 3 for the aliens to log off like I could when I didn't have to get up for work the next morning...

I realistically only got 2 shots at this with a 8EST start. I tried 10:40pm EST last night around the ring, it didn't end well.........................

an absolute shambles in the F50. Started my qualifying lap with damage because I went too hard into the last corner. Got a 1.5 second penalty because I went wide before the hairpin after the long straight following Flugplatz. Started 16th. Ended up 18th after being barged out the way in the first few corners then knocked back further at the same corner I binned in qualifying by an S-FR who didn't brake properly in slipstream. Ended up in 9th by the end of the second lap as crashes happen, before I was coming up on an Italian in an S-FR who had a penalty to serve who I'd seen putting other people off in the last 1/3 of the lap. He moved across to block me and the guy who'd originally barged past me on the first lap passed me, then he got the same treatment from the S-FR. Ended up barrelling through the last corner together but I got the place, finished 8th.

It seems like I do genuinely have pace here and I'd go again, but the timings on a Wednesday are too awkward for me. That was genuinely the worst qualifying I've ever had, including races where I was fuel burning and missed a flying lap. The only thing you need to do here in qualifying is survive, and I didn't. Annoying.

Decided to run some practice laps to see if it might be worth my while attempting this one. I don't own the GT40, so tried the Z8 first. Two laps, first one very messy, 8:21, then 16s ahead on second lap I clipped the wall and got a 1.5s penalty as the back straight started, invalidating my lap time.
Didn't have time to run another lap because I wanted to try other cars, so I jumped into the E46 M3 for a couple of laps. First lap was messy, again, second lap much cleaner but only just managed an 8:19.
Then I opted for the Subie WRX (the not-22B one) and could only manage an 8:26, despite having MUCH more stability and predictability.
Seeing the times you guys are pulling off, there's zero point in me attempting this one, so I think I'll catch up on some sleep instead!
Have fun guys!!

The game screwed me over for this one.
At the end of my qualy lap I run wide at the penultimate corner. I somehow get a penalty. I cross the line with an 8:08 which should give me 5th to 7th. Nope the game fails to register my time so I start DFL. 🤬 🤬 🤬 🤬 🤬 🤬 🤬 I am seething at this.
I make up a few positions on those who go off lap 1. Then coming through the kink after Pflanzgarten 1 I clip the grass and spin.
Somehow I control the drift but loose bucketloads of time.
1629925721880.png

Lap 2 is uneventful with me overtaking a couple of cars I already had overtaken and a few more find grief. Everyone seemed to race clean around me.
I cross the line 13th only making 6 places on my recovery drive. Could have been more without the spin. Without the game shafting me I'd have had a top ten for sure.
Still annoyed now.

Eventually got the GT40 into the Boeing 7:47 range (more precisely a 7:47.794), so even at 62K DR I was optimistic about getting one or two good EMEA races this evening.

17:00 Nations
Joined @Hasnain282 who I had the pleasure of practicing with during test lobbies; he was one of four starters in the 996. Didn't see as many S-FRs as I was expecting (maximum of three), and was pleasantly surprised to find an F50 somewhere on the matchmaking screen. One of the Fords dropped out during the warm-up, so only 19 cars took part here.

For qualifying, I decided to set brake balance to -5 on my out lap in an attempt to preserve my tyres before switching to -3 for the main run. Felt the lap was scrappier in places, but was very surprised to find myself not far off my FP pace with a 7:48.864 (11th, 4 seconds off the pole-sitting GT40). For comparison, my best qualifying lap in testing was a 7:51, so that was a major improvement I could be proud of.

Now, the majority of the top 10 was filled out by GT40s, and part of me thought during the race build-up that the lethargic first gear might help close the field up and boost my chance to gain places. Sadly, I was among the cars starting on the hill at Antoniusbuche, which put me at a disadvantage against Hasnain whose 996 was able to surge forward easily. Effectively, the grid was split into two, and since I gingerly made my way through the final complex to avoid going onto the grass, there was instant pressure from behind courtesy of the #13 GT40. The #13 eventually got a faster run through Schwedenkreuz, and given the Nordschleife's nature I felt it was best that I let him take the place.

Followed the #13 around with the prospect of catching up to Hasnain, but lost ground and was slipstreamed up Antoniusbuche by the #20 Porsche. An incident between Hasnain and the #13 gave us the opportunity, however, to close up to the pair to form what was becoming a close fight for 10th. Lurked around the back of the #13 and #20 as they fought and the latter picked up a track limits penalty just before Wehrsifen. Another slide off the road at the Schwalbenschwanz forced the #20 out of the picture, and an incident for the #11 Gulf GT40 loses him a ton of momentum. Was on course to regain 11th and had the tow on the #13 which gave me a chance to attempt one last pass.

Moved to the outside just after Tiergarten, with the #13 taking up the centre of the track and, without me realising it, my right-rear wheel partially over the grass. That was enough to pitch the car into the barriers just as I was lifting off to avoid hitting the #13, and the excursion left me with less grip to make it through the final three corners. Two-second penalty for track limits which put me behind the Gulf car as well as the #15 and #20 Porsches on the timing sheets. Otherwise a solid midfield run and surprisingly undramatic up until that point....

Gran Turismo™SPORT_20210825174558.png

Intrigued by the pace Hasnain and the other Porsches had, I next tried setting an FP time in the 996 to see how I would get on with it compared to the GT40. Made a few attempts where I messed up in the first two sectors, and even if I hadn't I could tell from my previous ghost times that the race-bred GT40 still looked - and felt - more agile and responsive. No change of vehicle, then, for the next attempts.

18:20 Nations
Met @GR33N in matchmaking as car #6, but got disconnected before I had a chance to enter the lobby. No effects on my score or driver rankings from the previous slot (144 points, 61,990 DR).

Used some of the spare time to rest, start on this write-up and set a new personal best FP time of 7:46.392 despite getting out of shape through Sectors 8 and 9. Felt there were still another few tenths left to gain, but as that lap was set just before matchmaking, there wasn't a further opportunity to investigate before the 19:40...

19:40 Nations
...where I happened to be drawn as the #1 seed. Curiously, only 19 cars appeared in the matchmaking screen, which included three DR A drivers (against a mostly A+ field), two F50s, two S-FRs and a solitary 996. Went through the same process on my out lap in qualifying as the 17:00, but ended up with a much scrappier lap including an off approaching Adenauer Forst which I somehow managed to recover from. Still circulated round in a 7:50.239 which would've put me further towards the back in a higher DR split, but fortunately was still worth 5th place with pole only being a 7:47.851. Top 4 places all filled out by Fords.

Problem was that one of the F50s (the Swedish #14 car) was starting right behind me, and with its shorter lower gears surged past effortlessly before we got to the pit straight. His joy was short-lived, however, as he touched the grass and spun between Schwedenkreuz and Aremberg... seconds after the #18 GT40 goes off himself. The Moses effect literally unfolded as I almost missed my braking entirely, and up into 4th we went. Next up was the #8 Rothmans GT40 who himself was recovering from an off at Aremberg as well. Add in a 1-second penalty for the red #11 running in 2nd, and a podium finish suddenly seemed to be in reach.

It was a tough balancing act hounding the #8 while holding off the recovering #18 at the same time, but somehow, I managed it. Would have had a chance to slipstream past the #8 through Döttinger Höhe, but remembered what happened in the 17:00 and stuck to his exhaust pipes from that moment on. Got the move done on the final uphill run with the #18 also following through, though not without a small tap under braking which shot me forward through Hohenrain. Got the car under control, however, and lead the formation home in 2nd.

Out of all the things I thought could happen in Nations Cup tonight, a second podium finish of the main season and another DR boost (now approaching 63K) were what I was least expecting. It also happens to be my best Nations score of the entire year so far, five points more than my Group C victory at Blue Moon Bay back in March, and only one point shy of my 2nd place at Spa in Manufacturers Season 1. Even if it was in a lower DR split with a handful of A-ranked drivers in the mix, I'm more than happy taking this result home. Which is good, because I was starting to feel during the second lap that I had enough, anyway....

It was a very tense race, if I picked up any penalty I would've blown it. Always great fun racing at Nordschliefe

You just have to get out early enough that you're not pushing to start the lap before the clock hits zero. @LeGeNd-1 and I were last out and put in some disgracefully slow outlaps and got 5th and pole respectively.

It was weird qualifying in our split. I went out probably 5 seconds behind 05xr8 and we were a long way after most of the field. He ran slow on the out lap and I caught him at Fuchsrohre. I wasn’t going anywhere near flying pace, but I kept catching cars that had gone off, had penalties or were SF-Rs on straights. I had no sooner passed someone than the next car was only a second ahead and running onto the grass or missing a braking point. Even after I had overtaken 10 cars and entered my flying lap at least 2 seconds behind the S-FR I had caught him by the time we reached Metzgesfeld. From memory, the difference in qualy between 2nd and 17th was around 30 seconds.

For such a long track it seemed way too easy to end up in a pack. I think whenever you went out you were likely to be faced with navigating around a slower car.

Race and qualifying are different from free practice. In free practice, tire wear is turned off and there's no fuel weight in the car. Thanks man, I figured that was the case....this was only my 3rd crack at an FIA race (and the comedy that was the bump-drafting ring race was one of them...). I managed a 7:49 in free practice, but barely managed to get under 8 mins in qualifying! Was great fun though - I saw a few names from here up the front in one of the two races I tried, but I was happy to go relatively mistake free and finish just outside the top 10. Looking forward to seeing if a wheel and pedals will make a difference to my times - I'm looking into getting the new Next Level Racing rig next month, and still trying to decide whether to go all-out and get the fanatec podium f1 wheel, or just get something cheaper and wait for the PS5 compatible CSL DD comes out....

17:00 Nations Cup

I was the only Raptor. (Tonka livery.)

I somehow managed to qualify in 17th place.

Ended "last" in 19th place.

The Raptor is really good on tyre wear. So, I had that going for me.

No one likes getting overtaken by a Raptor. They get their "revenge", such as it is, on that long straight bit at the end.

Once a Raptor has a line, it is easy to keep that line.

Raptors are hard to punt.
