Missed the first slot due to a late lunch and then the football was on so my first slot was 18:00.

I messed up my first qualifying lap. Even though I broke normally the car decided it wanted to see what the outside of the Senna S looked like. So I got a 1.5 second penalty for track limits. Obviously it wouldn't let me serve it just afterwards so I quit the lap and went again. Made it to the flying lap by 7 seconds. As I was coming through 'Junction' I glanced at the message board. Most people were setting 42's or slower. I smiled as my best in practice was a 40.3. I came across the line in 4th about half a second off that time and .4 off pole. So my best could have had pole.

Got an o.k. start but through Curva da Sol the top 3 pulled away a bit. My fellow BMW decided to go for an ambitious move at 'Lake Descent' that really wasn't on. This shoved me a bit wide but I think they spun as I came on ahead and they were now in 6th. By the next lap he was again behind me. He once again tried the bomb at the same corner but I shut the door and he clipped me with no incident. I had caught the guy in third, however my Polish BMW friend got a run on me along the start finish straight. I decided to let him have the inside as he might overshoot or I could cutback. However in the braking zone he nudged me onto the grass on the outside. This is an automatic spin and I went back to 16th. Over the next couple of laps I managed to move up a few places either by them being slower or penalties. (Plus a few spins.) I was behind a TT for a few laps. He got a penalty for going wide at 'Lake Descent' and I knew I would have him next lap. However he was looking at a RCZ at the time which allowed me to get a run. As he ghosted I looked over at the right hand side of the track. With an expletive I saw I was at 75 meters. Damn. I went wide allowing the two cars following to pass. The Pug also decided to join me in the run off for no reason. I got back on and an Aston decided to have a move at the following 'Horseshoe'. I went wide as he nudged me. Thankfully I didn't spin and kept it away from the looming barrier. Pitted lap 8. Came out in some traffic and was fighting for a lap. However I once again caught the grass on the outside of the Senna S (my mistake this time. :banghead:)
However the car didn't even give me the courtesy of facing the right way afterwards like before. So it took ages to get her round. Luckily the next guy back was 20 seconds behind so was able to just keep ahead. I was able to make up some ground to enter the final lap in 14th place. I saw they next guy had a 0.5 second penalty. I know the game rounds it up so I pushed as much as I dared to try and get into that 1 second gap. Crossed the line .8 seconds behind so that mini objective was complete. 13th for me. I would go again as a less eventful race will offer me more points. However I can't be bothered so I will consign this to a drop score and hopefully the jaunt around the gardens will be better. Group 3 seems to be going better for me than 4 this season.

I've practiced several different strategies the last couple of days - then I read reports from Oceania this morning and ran a couple more.

The 'Vette can go 10 laps running full out. Just short-shifting it's borderline 12-13. I finally got a full no-stop in this morning by fuel-mapping and short-shifting. I ran out of fuel just as I crossed the line but my time was 12 sec slower than a 1-stop with a tire change! Based on my practice times, a 1-stop without a tire change is only 1 sec faster than a 1-stop with a tire change. I'm definitely going to do a 1-stop this afternoon but I guess I'm going to have to wait and see how much of a beating my tires take before deciding on changing tires or not. Gr 4 Interlagos can be awfully door-banging with some carnage on the side...

Surely if you think it's so close the tyre change would be best and if you need to fight at the end you'll be in the best position, just my thoughts.

Right but my thought being if my tires are okay (and the more I practice the less wear I put on them) and the extra 5 sec for a tire change would be the difference between emerging in open air vs traffic...

Unless, of course, my tires are completely shot by the time I pit.

Okay, as is so often the case, I'm going into this one cold in the Viper.

Interlagos is a circuit I usually enjoy, so here's hoping it does me some favours in my one attempt!

Watch here:

Just check the gaps you have when you are pitting. If no tired puts you in front of a pack then dont do it. Most won't change tires and the extra seconds can be huge as all the battling can waste the tires easily

Tonight's races showed up one of my weaknesses. Fuel saving...

Only ran it twice. And didn't have the chance to practice much.

Race 1

Came in with almost no practice. Qualified on pole. In race decided to try and short shift, push the car as far as I could get it. Trying the no stop. Accidentally cut the second part of the Sena S. Got a 1s penalty. Decided to pit and just push. Finished P9, 99 points. +400 DR.

Race 2

Qualified on pole, again. But opted to just drive at full speed and see how it went. Unfortunately got hit wide in to T1, went down to P4.
Came in to the pits on lap 9. Could only manage P5, for 122 points.

First 3 drivers did the no stop.

Not the best results, but thankfully kept it clean, didn't get the win, but nice to be back to DR A, after a few weeks.

OH boy did I muck up. Door 20 Q10 and in 5th on first lap. Everything looking great till lap 5 when I pit. WHAT A MORON!!! I changed tyres but got excited and didn't fuel so I had to come in next lap putting me last (19) instead of 8th ok with fuel maybe 10th. I made some good moves and with people pitting was looking good for 7th but my tyres were going and I hit the guy as I was passing shoving him off line and braking myself so I slowed to let him pass. OK 8th is not so bad after such a stupid error....but no I have to lose it on the last corner and come in 10th.
Still it was an enjoyable race unlike the Euro one earlier and I would be inclined to run again, but I know it will be bad so I'm going to end the day on a high note.

I’ve had three races in the SLS Gr.4 car now and I’m not a fan of it at all, seems to me that it is more of a handling car but it isn’t brilliant at that either. Guess I just need to practice some more.

Tried to fuel save but couldn’t do enough, cut a long story short, I just went backwards.
On top of that the off track penalties at Interlagos are a joke.
You can cut some corners by a mile as standard but if you run wide (much slower) it will give you a 1 second penalty as well as dirty tyres for the next few corners.....as infuriating as the 1.5 second barrier collision penalty!

Looks like the next Manu race is more about tyres than fuel, more my cup of tea!

Interesting race. I'm smack dab in the middle of the DR rankings - door 10. I get stuck behind someone slower than me during qualy but am able to set up enough of a gap going into our second flying lap that he doesn't slow me down and I pass as we pass the line at the end of qualy. P10. Decent time for me but nothing to write home about.

Right at the get-go, I pass the Audi in front of me right before we go into T1. I then spend the next 5 laps with a pack jostling for P5. It was clean but it was frustrating. Everyone in the pack was clearly capable of racing clean, giving space braking early but no one was content to just form a train, get away from the gaggle behind us and work to catch the leaders. L5 a Merc catches us and latches on to my tail. Unlike the rest of the group, he doesn't know how to brake under slipstream and keeps tagging me from behind and giving me SR downs. Getting frustrated, I see the guy in front of me go deep at the hairpin and dive up the inside. Apparently, I lunged a little too far as the guy ahead of him catches my nose as he hits the apex and I get a 2 sec penalty. That sends me back to P10.

I spend the next two laps trying to make a move happen, as I can tell I'm faster than the guy in front of me. It doesn't happen. What does happen is that I just miss my braking point going into the last left-hander before the uphill climb and tap his bumper - getting a 1 sec penalty. Finally, I catch a break when all the other 1-stoppers pit in L7-8 and seem to take tires. That jumps me up to P3 before I go in for my pit on L10. I decide against the tires and take half a lap less than the meter tells me, as I've finished almost all my practice races with .5 a lap of fuel in the tank. I come out of the pits in P5 with a Porche running up my tailpipe. The Porsche behind me is on fresh tires but I manage to hold him off for half a lap or so but he finally makes it around me and I lose his slipstream almost immediately. A lap or two later, two other guys on fresher tires make it around me. I finally cross the line in P8.

It wasn't a bad finish for me, as my lap times were pretty consistent with my practice races. On pace alone, I don't think I could have finished much higher. The penalties and SR downs, however, bug the heck out of me. The 3 sec in penalties alone moves me up to P6. I get the first one - although I think 2 sec was rather excessive as I didn't slow down the guy I tagged all that much. The second was complete BS, though, as I got tagged 3-4 times from behind and the guy behind me didn't get a single penalty but I managed to lose 16 SR this race with his help.

Even though I got overtaken at the end, I think not taking tires was the right call. I pitted out pretty much exactly where I wanted and I didn't lose a ton of time to tire wear the last couple of laps. I think we'll call this good.

NA Slot 1. I wasn't confident in fuel saving with the Corvette and Interlagos has been a challenging track for me in the past. I qualified 9th and decided to try going all out first. I pitted on lap 8 for fuel and finished 10th for 109 points. Okay result, but I felt I could do better than that so I went again.

Slot 2. I started higher up, qualifying 7th. This time I was going to try fuel saving. For most of the first half of the race, I was tailing an Audi TT driver and trying to stay in their slipstream while short shifting and occasionally adjusting the fuel map. Like last time, I pitted for fuel on lap 8 but didn't have to refuel as long as in the previous race. Four other drivers went in at the same time I did as well. I emerge in 8th and by lap 12, I'm in 4th after passing a Genesis and a few other drivers who also had to pit. Things were going well, but because I didn't change tires (which I wish I did) the wear was starting to slow me down and another Corvette driver passed me on lap 13. With only two laps to go, I didn't want to lose anymore positions. A different Audi TT wasn't far behind and had tires in better shape than mine, but I fortunately was able to keep them at bay by the end of the race. Finished for my best result in Manufactures this season so far, which I really needed.

I decided to pit every single slot, pitting on either Lap 7 or 8 for both tires and fuel. Fuel saving (without using the fuel map) only got me to 12.9 Laps without heavy slipstreaming. Even with heavy slipstreaming, I couldn't make it all the way without taking at least some fuel. Since even with extreme short-shifting, I was able to run times similar to my flat-out pace, I decided to save fuel as much as I could and still pit at halfway for tires and 2+ laps of fuel, and hope I could make up some spots by not having to take as much fuel as the other 1-stoppers who went flat out.

Slot 1
P10 -> P10; CRB

Slot 2
P7 -> P7; CRB

Slot 3
P11 -> P8; CRB

Slot 4
P10 -> P6; 2.5s of penalties

Slot 5
TBD...
Edit: P10 -> P7 (I was originally running 8th when the 7th place Porsche ran out of fuel just before the finish)
1s penalty again for being caught out when traffic stacked up into T4 (4 of us all ran into each other and everyone got a penalty :lol:), but despite that, it was my biggest points haul of the night, with a score that's actually good enough to boost my total by 6 points. It also means that for the first time ever, all of my counted scores will be over 200 points, no matter what.

If you'd have told me I'd actually enjoy this combo (Interlagos, Gr. 4, requiring fuel management), I'd have laughed in your face! Instead this turned out to be the 2nd-most fun I've had during this season in either Manufacturer's or Nation's (with BMB obviously being the most fun). Now I'm really looking forward to DTG II...

@vvise, @Winnie847, @kevinddr, good racing you, even if I didn't really see much of y'all aside from @vvise in the actual races.

Slot 1, A/S Lobby, Door 19

I jumped on last night just to get warmed up and realized the first race was in 2 minutes. DOH! So, I registered and went for it. Probably not the brightest idea I've ever had. Qualified 19th after getting bit in the arse by a penalty with no time to exit and restart. First time the 5 minute qualifying caused me an issue.

Had a fun clean race but kept getting tempted to burn more fuel than I should have. Fuel saved my tail off at the end and managed to gain 4 spots. I think I could've done better that race not fuel saving. Enjoyed it though.

Recently switched to hood cam, absolutely love it. Noticed that @Tidgney and others use it. So gave it a shot.

Really wish it had a rear view mirror. It's so much nicer, when you can fuel map, and still be aware of what's around you, with either the radar or the mirror.

But hey, on we go to SSRX. Not much to lose, nations has not gone well this season. But it's my first FIA season.

I would absolutely prefer the hood cam, but after a year of getting used to the mirror, I simply can't drive without it. I agree.

One of my pet hates that we don't get a rear view mirror. I mean Safety rating is drilled into us, surely having a rear view mirror (Like every other game) would help with this :banghead: :confused:

Yep, I'd switch back to hood cam if it had a rear view mirror. Use it for the longest time, but eventually switched to bumper cam to get the rear view. It's saved me more times than I can count, even though it's way more difficult to drive close in traffic.

Well for me it doesn't, I am just as aware using time, map and radar, but I don't keep looking at the guy behind as I miss my braking point or forget to turn. Now I do think it would be better if it was switchable, like now doing N24 it would be helpful as the map doesn't give any info and switching constantly from radar to track (that's assuming track shows player? I never use it) isn't really a good idea on a track that's constant corners. I definitely drive better and safer without a mirror.
