Just tried a simulation run at Tokyo in my F-Type. Had fuel set to 1, short shifting at 50% ish, lift-and-coast for most of the long braking zone corners, needed a second stop at end of lap 11. Do we think the 2-stop is viable here? Or just fuel save with fuel mix ratio, short shifting, and lift-and-coast techniques to get a 1-stop? Obviously the pit loss is significant, but what's the lap time loss like with so much of a fuel saving combo?? Interested to know what people are thinking on this one...
Unless you're in the slipstream of someone the entire time, there's no way you'll make a 1-stop work without heavy use of leaner fuel mixtures in addition to short-shifting (I have to leave the Corvette in FM2 the entire stint to make it 8 laps and do a 1-stop if I'm not in the slipstream). Also if you're shifting at 50% in the Jag, you're still probably revving it out too much. To make up for a 2nd pit stop, you'd need to run 2 seconds/lap faster roughly, and even though saving fuel feels slow, it's not THAT slow that you'd be able to go 2 seconds faster just going flat out.
It's in a car park though. You have to go up all the spiral ramps to find the right level your pit crew are at.
You also have to pay the attendant before you can even get in. And it's cash only...

Recently just jumped backed into GT sport after a 2 month hiatus. Decided to try out Ferrari for my Manu car after being very impressed with the GR4 488 this week. I think I made a HUGE MISTAKE!!!

Took the Ferrari Gr3 car out for some test laps yesterday. Thing is the most unstable thing I've ever driven outside of an MR2. Anyone got some tips?
One big hurdle about the 458 GT3 is the lift off oversteer SO what ever you do don't machine gun down shift the gears. there are two ways to avoid this
1: slowly downshift matching with the speed
2: start downshift halfway through your braking point
and which ever your chose you should shift to the last gear for that corner close to the apex.
hopefully this will help you the checkered flags in one piece.
I also recommended this guide it explain how to drive MR and RR by David Perel

My testing suggests the Vantage will be able to 1 stop on FM1 with short shifting only.

I found staying a tiny bit on throttle (if you’re able to do that) on corner entry (so only off throttle while pressing brake, and reapplying after ending any braking) helps keep the car stable as well.

I have to say that while the Nations combo was short and set up for elbows out racing, there were at least some options for cars. I used the WRX and I could've had a podium if it didn't bottleneck so much the first few laps. Hard to see from my vantage point but some really good racing behind me.

It's going to depend highly on the car.

I run FM1 all the time but short shift in the Cayman and I make it to the pits on lap 9. Laptimes around 2:06-2:06.5.

I think the only time you want to bother with FM is if you really can't make it just by short shifting. You lose way more pace with lean FM than short shifting.

Does anyone know what has happened to the perennial Australian World Championship representative? He hasn’t raced since early April and I haven’t seen his father in a lobby since then either.
He was mentioning on a discord that some stuff about representation had changed and he now needed to represent Macedonia beut there was no ability to do that so he wasnt able to race FIA without risking penalty for representing the wrong country or something like that. One of those situations where certain countries seem to be falling through the cracks of the system and he is caught in the slip.
He didnt seem happy about it but resigned to the situation

With a 2nd fuel stop in the neighborhood of 30 sec there's no way I'm going to make a 2nd stop. In a B lobby, you know that almost half the field will pit twice. That 30 sec can easily gain 4-5 positions. Fuel map and hope you find a slipstream buddy.
I'll try a couple of fuel map runs today and see how I get on. Thank you!

I did a simulation in my Citroen earlier, in a lobby set up by Seth Logan (thanks to him for doing so!) and also needed a 2 stopper. Although I did all possible to fuel save I could not do a one stopper. Worst thing was that I was bloody slow while attempting to fuel save. But i suck at fuel saving. And imho it is no fun to be so busy with fuel saving....

Most of the others in the lobby did manage though to do a one stopper, among those driving Jaguars, and all finished ahead of those doing a two stopper, so yes it is viable....and likely the best strategy. lap time loss is perhaps a few seconds, but the pit stop time here is a ridiculous plus 20 seconds, which is odd concering that the pit lane is really short...
It's that crazy pit entrance with the double helix triple spiral ascent to the pit garages as mentioned by @OJBrit and the payment booth! I'm also fairly terrible at fuel saving. I usually resort to the fuel map...

You'll do fine in your Jaaag. 1 stop and use all techniques you mentioned and the rest. Your mid B so would think you'll need to drive an average of maybe 2:06 for a top 5? So there will be a limit to adjusting your map. And make good use of your 7th gear!

For me, Im having a blast! Can't get enough of the car, the track and the tactics I'm having to master.

At the beginning of the week I drove a fuel map 6 no stopper, after that a fuel map 2 1 stopper and over the week I've learnt to drive at fm 1 and STILL drive faster... no matter what happens Saturday, the lessons learnt, the racecraft gained is invaluable.
In no small amount this has to do with the actual race pace having to be balanced by all drivers. For once they actually HAVE to work together. Of course many won't this Saturday, but if we drive smart and don't fight them at all, they are easy pickings come lap 6-7

Very enjoyable this eco drive feel.

I wish Viperconcept still ran those Eco challenges...
2:06?! My best in my test run was a fraction under 2:09! Most laps were around 2:10... Yikes.

Where would you recommend shifting in the Jag if 50% is too much? I felt like that was a good balance between power and fuel use.

You are going to have to learn when to coast instead of putting inputs in. I dropped my time by coasting a lot through the final esses section. It actually was faster than pushing it hard through there. Was better on tire wear as well. It is worth trying some different driving styles for the race. The Jag is good on fuel, and can carry speed but coasting through middle speed turns will be the key to keeping the times lower while still saving fuel.

That and get cost with the wall. Most turns on that layout prefer a later turn in and early acceleration out

Ah, that makes sense. I know he moved to Europe a while ago. Shame he doesn’t have an opportunity to represent his current Nationality.

Hope to see some of you at practice tonight! Starting 20:00-ish CEST. I will be joining Race Asylum as well for their practice runs, so I might not actually be hosting a lobby myself. Depends. If you want to join their sessions feel free to join their discord. A link can be found via youtube user Doughtinator.

Definitely the coasting thing. Also, in the Aston I am finding that holding a higher gear through those turns actually makes me faster as well. For example I hold 5th through turn 1 and the final complex of esses while mostly coasting. I’m managing to turn mid 6s in race practice shifting at 50% whereas before when changing down and pushing in turns I was running high 8s.

Also, I think the Cayman will be hard to beat here. They are good with fuel and quick around this circuit even before you factor in the fuel saving.

Understood. I'll give that a go next time. Would you suggest keeping fuel mix to 1 and lift-and-coast, or play with the fuel mix ratios and lift/coast?

I'll have to get out and test it, but I have a feeling the BMW is going to need FM2 + short shifting + coasting to make it through the longer stint. Hopefully FM1 + saving is enough on the shorter one. Soooo thirsty.

I'm basing my suggestion on experience in the Corvette, so I figured another V8 FR would be similar, but I'm shifting at just when the red bar begins to fill in order to get 7 laps at FM1 without slipstream. It definitely hurts acceleration though.

Nations - Autopolis Short Gr.4

Race 1 was a total trainwreck. I got tapped off turn 1 by Mr. Scrappy from the Mini race, sending me to the back. Then a Korean wiped me out at turn 1 too despite me leaving the inside wide open, which really ticked me off. He apologised, but I was no mood to accept apologies after getting punted off twice in a row. Finished 19th after someone wiped out Mr. Scrappy at the line.

Race 2

I spent the downtime between slots studying my compatriot's lap from Race 1 to work out where I was losing time. With this knowledge, I put together a much better qualifying lap to start 4th. Of course, I promptly got shoved wide amidst the mayhem of turn 1, briefly dropping to 10th before climbing back up and getting involved in a three-way fight for 4th between me, an Audi that was the polesitter, and an Indonesian BMW that had barged his way up from the back.

Mr. Scrappy in the VW and the Indonesian BMW shoving past me in the chaos of the opening laps.

On lap 5, I had to take evasive action while braking into the final corner to avoid running into the back of the Audi. Unfortunately for me, the BMW behind braked too late and sent me into the gravel. Needless to say, I was frothing at the mouth with rage at getting punted off for the third time that night.
ScBZ99q.jpg

The punt sent me down to 8th right behind the VW of one Mr. Scrappy and just ahead of the other midfielders. The BMW's 2 second penalty for sending me off meant that he fell into range of Mr. Scrappy, me and the other midfielders. Heading into turn 1, the BMW ran into the VW, sending the latter wide. I concertinaed into the BMW in turn, allowing the BMW to scrape past the VW for 6th.

To recap my situation on lap 7, I was down in 8th behind two drivers that had already punted me off once each. I also had a Subaru crawling all over my rear bumper heading into Sector 2. Hell bent on forcing my way back into 6th and with an axe to grind against the two drivers ahead of me, I made a lunge into turn 6's hairpin. At the same time, Mr. Scrappy was making the same move on the BMW into the same corner.

Three cars, two of them attempting a divebomb into turn 6. The results were not pretty, to put it mildly.

Video of the VW and BMW's driving in the lead up to the incident and the incident itself:

I did not mean to shove both of them into the grass, but I can't help but feel they both deserved it. Both drivers had punted me off, Mr. Scrappy had forced someone into the pit wall last Saturday and the BMW had ploughed into other cars on multiple occasions in Race 2.

For some inexplicable reason, I got away without a penalty for the incident. The VW dropped to 11th with a 2 second penalty, while the BMW dropped to 17th before scoring a revenge punt on the VW. The VW basically gave up on the race then and there, while the BMW got another 2 second penalty for the punt before proceeding to shove an unlucky Subaru off at turn 3.

Meanwhile, I was battling a different Subaru over 6th. The Subaru was able to get ahead of me by the end of lap 7, but I was able to retake 6th with a move up the inside into turn 3 on lap 9.

I managed to hold off the Subaru to take 6th for 145 points.

Despite running two cars off that race, I got a CRB. And the Indonesian BMW was not happy with Mr. Scrappy, as the above screenshot shows. Oddly enough, neither of them said anything about my involvement in the lap 7 incident. The Indonesian clearly blamed Mr. Scrappy for the incident, while Mr. Scrappy said nothing about me. With how messy this race was, I chose not to go again.

Ohhhh, that player 3 laps down. Yep.

Anyway, after what I've experienced today(well, yesterday, it's past midnight here), I'm a bit lost what to do with this game. Simply flabbergasted.

Did a test in the Jag the other day to see how it compares to the Corvette. Made it to pits on lap 8 with 0.8 laps of fuel left running on Map 1 the whole time but shifting just as red line hits the mph numbers. With a little map play would have easily made it to lap 9. That’s roughly 2:07 minute laps.

Filled all the way to the top and ran map 1 shifting at exactly 50%. This gave lap times of low 2:06s. Still had an extra lap of fuel left for last two laps so revved it out for those laps leaving 0.3 left at the end. Not the fastest but means you don’t have to sweat over fuel. Should be good enough for a decent finish in a B lobby. Hope this helps in some way! (Obviously the regular Jag drivers on here know better )

Sounds like the Jag has an easier time saving fuel then the Corvette then. I can only get to Lap 8 using the same method in the Corvette if I'm slipstreaming most of the time, and have 7 liters left when I pit.

Yes definitely easier in the Jag. In the Corvette without slip I'm shifting just as bar starts to fill, map 1 on straights and switching to map 3 through the docks and from pits to start line (briefly into map 2 to get up the hill a bit faster) to make it comfortably to lap 8.

How many % is 7 liters?

And you do it in a 2:05!

I managed to get the Citroen on pace for Tokyo. Short shift before 50% full on FM1, FM5 halfway down the tunnel before switching back just before Pit Hairpin, coast into Pit Hairpin and some minor coasting in the final sector. Last lobby race I ran got me a 32:26 with the winning A+ driver in the 86 14 seconds down the road.

Of course, all this fuel saving practice means that I’ll be going into Sunday’s TGR SF19 race completely cold. That’s going to end well.

Sounds like I've got some practice to put in if I'm to stand any chance of a 1-stop. I'm just not able to make those kinda lap times while fuel saving!
Thanks for the tips, I'll try put them to use and see if I can make it work.
