Its crazy to me that not one of you has second guessed the choice pull Biden out. Largely due to doctored video and their campaigns poor decision to have Biden participate in the debate while having covid.

..and that you thought a black, female, former prosecutor, who stunk up and was drummed out early from the 2020 primaries was going to work.

Nope..its still Bidens fault here.

You people really screwed us.

Ps. Months ago when i argued he was fine, it was because i knew people who were regularly in and out of his house…i don’t say 💩 without being pretty confident before doing so ….but you guys were so sure of yourselves, i shut up, and hoped to be wrong.

Thing is.. sadly, im pretty sure Biden would have won.

This has all been depressingly predictable.

At no point did Biden ever lead in the polls. Harris, on the other hand, did

Biden absolutely would not have won. Biden is polling at "Bush's second term" approval levels and was doing so two years before the disastrous debate appearance that made him out to be someone whose handlers constantly had to cover up for.

Whether or not Harris would have been more popular enough to cover the 10 million+ vote shortfall had she not changed messaging after the DNC is another matter, but Biden absolutely was going to be slaughtered if he had committed to 4 more months of ineptly campaigning and ineptly being president. Like, do you not get that Trump won the popular vote?
This isn't "Hilary kicked his ass but made a couple of late tactical errors and people remembered they didn't like her so she lost all of the tossup states in a rigged Electoral College system but Democrats nearly swept the election. " This is "Voters overwhelmingly had no interest in anything to do with the Biden administration for a second term and zero Democrat strategists had any idea so they lost the entire government in the process."

I'm explicitly saying Trump wont fight inflation, but they think he will. That is top priority for the pople right now. Put this on #1 on your agenda or lose.
What do you think is more likely to affect inflation? Fighting companies on price gouging or making foreign goods more expensive, causing other countries to trade with yours less?

The average voter is also woefully uninformed too. They saw that they could afford things when Trump was president and could not when Biden was president. They have no functional understanding of how an economy works, even at a high school level. Not being able to afford things pretty much trumps (no pun intended) everything else. It's how Hitler rose to power. The difference is the US economy is good while it's perceived to be bad while the German economy was just bad. Still, telling people what they want to hear will win you votes every time.

I just wonder how the midterms will go if Trump sinks the economy. Also, if Congress can't figure out how to cut spending and keep Trump's tax cuts in place, taxes will go up in 2026, just in time for the midterms. That will doom the Republicans because if there's one thing Americans agree on, it's taxes suck.

My take on some of the things that may come or may not:
- I skipped most of the BS about dems and Israel. BS because Israel was waiting patiently for a casus belli to wipe the Palestinians from the face of the Earth (and apparently below given their extensive underground network). Hamas handed them the perfect casus belli on a silver plate on October 7, 2023. The Hamas is a cynical terrorist organization who don't care about their own people, same as Trump/GOP, Orban, Putin etc. The cynic in me wishes that all the idiots not voting for Harris because of Israel will be able to see how their choice emboldened Netanyahu to "finish the fight" and kill all Palestinians once and for all. My true self doesn't want anything like that, I believe that it was one of the worst mistakes after WWII to not create Palestine alongside Israel in the first place. Back to my cynical side: I wish we could have a wall around all the Middle East and let them kill themselves once and for all and let us take all the oil from there... and yes, my true self doesn't want this but sometimes it's really hard not to let the cynical side take over

- Immigration, deportation: again, the cynical me hopes that all those Latinos would be rounded up asap and get kicked out from the country to teach them a ****ing lesson. Once we leave cynicism, I'm an immigrant myself, plus a registered democrat, so who knows when ICE would come after me, despite being as white as one gets. Let's also not forget what has been discussed: the very negative effects of such theoretical deportations on the economy. I live here so I don't need to get screwed more than I'm already are

- Tariffs: same as above. The cynical me wants to have those ****ing tariffs and get at least 20-30-40% inflation so that those useless ****ing rednecks in PA and everywhere else would see their money become worthless and I would want to see them not being able to buy food and become homeless after they have to give up their homes to finally understand tariffs. On the other hand after calming down I obviously don't want any of that as we can't have inflation for the trumpist idiots only, we would - or rather we very much will - suffer from tariff-fueled inflation, as well. I already have to pay at least 50% more than an average American due to food allergies in our family, so I'm already expecting it to be even worse...

- Foreign policy: again, my cynical me wishes that Orban would get his "wish" and have Putin's army take station in Hungary on a temporary basis like they did on November 4, 1956. It took 45 years to kick them out, maybe this time they'd stay longer. My normal me obviously doesn't want the country I was born in to get overrun by the Russians (again), especially that our families still live there (and I don't necessarily want them to live with us as refugees, either)

So yeah, I do see our future rather dark and try to suppress my dark, cynical side but it's not easy not wishing all the time to have the trumpist taste their own medicine and choke on that hard, even though I would choke on that just as much... **** this whole thing...

Inflation and migration are always difficult ones to tackle. If you're running a country during a period of global inflation and there's an election on the cards, its going to be very difficult for you to stay in power. It happened to the Tories in the UK and its just happened to the Democrats in the US. The general public are seeing the cost of living sky rocket but they're not seeing their wage packets increasing at the same rate. It doen't matter that the current government had little power to stop inflation, they'll always be held accountable at the polls.

Its always been the case to one extreme or the other, but whilst political parties are heavily financed and therefore influenced by very wealthy individuals and their corporations, inflation and migration are never going to be properly tackled. They thrive on inflation in so many different ways and benefit from the cheap labour that migration brings.

They can campaign and win votes by talking about building walls and exporting migrants to different hell holes to the ones they were escaping in the first place, but at the end of the day, their paymasters need the imigrants, so they'll always be hollow promises.

Once we leave cynicism, I'm an immigrant myself, plus a registered democrat, so who knows when ICE would come after me, despite being as white as one gets. Let's also not forget what has been discussed: the very negative effects of such theoretical deportations on the economy. I live here so I don't need to get screwed more than I'm already...

With our prison population at 1,200,000 people and running at vaguely 85-90% capacity, there is no room nor budget to suddenly incarcerate 10x that number of illegal immigrants. The math doesn't work out. It's the same reason many people realized you can't simultaneously budget for The Wall and begin to take care of bipartisan infrastructure with shrinking tax rates promised to its populace.

At worst, they'll do a few rounds of collection-deportations and realize there's no financial benefit nor profit from the process, blame Deep State / Democrats for its demise instead of owning up to its inherently bad elementary mathematical imbalance, and it becomes a politically-charged "handy plank" subject again for 2028.

I don't think so.

When Biden dropped out, there was a wave of enthusiasm. I saw a lot of people who were unhappy with Biden but cautiously optimistic about Harris. People who were ready to vote for her, including me. This is reflected in the polls, too. Her approval shot up to 40%, past Biden's 37%. She was at 35% before that.

Biden has had gaffes since then, and I don't think he could have generated any enthusiasm whether he shifted right or left or stayed the same. Harris may have been vague on policy and had an incoherent platform, but she's a better communicator, and more charismatic than Biden by far. She was more capable of winning, but she really fumbled it.

And if anyone would struggle to distinguish themselves from Biden's presidency, it's Biden.

There's a reason even Pelosi wanted Biden out. A Biden victory was never in the cards.

Ever heard of negotiations? It is possible with Trump, because he doesn’t subscribe to the authoritarian idea that the United States should police the whole world.
Putin and Trump negotiate about Ukraine:

Vladimir Vladimirovich: Donald, I want to make Russia great again, like you made America great again.
Donald: excellent, excellent, you're going to make Russia beautiful (shushing and winking: and send me some beautiful Russian girls without Melania knowing, like you did before)
Vladimir Vladimirovich: sure, just a small thing, we need to take over Ukraine, and possibly the former East Block countries like the Baltics, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary. You know, I already have Fico and Orban installed.
Donald: but Vladimir Vladimirovich, apart from the Ukraine aren't those NATO countries?
Vladimir Vladimirovich: maybe they think they are but the NATO betrayed us when they took them in despite promising us that it would never happen. Anyway, have I already told you how much I admire you and how great of a president you are? You are clearly the bestest of the bestest of US presidents of all time, if not the BEST PRESIDENT IN THE WORLD!!
Donald: oh yes, I am, I am... Vladimir Vladimirovich, you're building such a great and beautiful country, do as you wish!

I really don't want to see you and others see what would happen if the US would stop policing the whole world. I do agree that we shouldn't police everywhere but Denmark isn't that far away from Russian now, is it? What if Beijing will decide that it's time to finally achieve the One China goal and the chip market will suffer a little? Yeah, I know that Europeans disdain the US so much (I'm a European myself, I know that America and Americans are considered lower beings compared to Europeans, even though the average European is just as dumb as the average American, just look at the various election results throughout the continent), yet the EU and its predecessors failed to step up properly since 1957. As much as I'm a believer in the EU, Europe is a lot of talk and no actions. So, there you have it.

You're not confident?
Huh?

I called this pretty much down the line from around late July. My confidence is fine.

Eta: while not confident in this…but pretty strong feelings…i feel putin somehow orchestrated hamas’s attacking israel to distract from Ukrainian support and to drive a wedge between democrats. I think it worked very well and the people who carried Putin’s water need to understand they got played. Whether intentions were good is irrelevant. It matters less why pieces move around a board. Just that they do.

I mean, we get that part. But 15 million more people weren't voting for Biden than voted for Harris after 4 years of perceived 🤬. His presidency is radioactive.
Oh man, I haven't even realized until now that Harris got 15 million less votes than Biden... Trump got also 3 million less but 15 ****ing million less???

For a life long centrist dem, Biden’s presidency was pretty good. The coverage of it was something else though…

But yeah. I do think more people, particularly ones over 45, would have voted for Biden and yes i do not think we would be here now.

She was a bad candidate, simple as. Hilary 2.0
I mean, there may be merits to that statement - but when you consider the ****show of a human she was running against you've got to wonder if the US is ready to have a female leader.

Well, I'm shocked. I guess no one remembers or cares that he had a tantrum incited a riot and didn't prevent the gov't from being overthrown. While I DGAF about people in the middle east who have been fighting for decades and neither candidate would be able to improve things (if a solution was viable, it'd been done long ago). I do care about Ukraine, Russia and North Korea. The way 'he' was buddy buddy with Putin may not bode well.

But with 18 million lazy Dems who didn't vote, we lost the election vs repubs winning it. But hey, I make enough money and own an s-corp that my wallet will enjoy the next four years ;) I still have the same opinion of 'Murica I've always had; its just a below avg place to live

Say what you will about the strategies, the decisions good and bad, the circumstances, it all avoids the most disturbing component of all of this.

A majority of voting American citizens are OK with the following:
  • A fellow citizen convicted of sexual assault holding the office of the President
  • A fellow citizen convicted of business fraud holding the office of the President
  • A fellow citizen openly embracing/exercising authoritarian ideals holding the office of the President
  • A fellow citizen openly undermining the stability of the free world holding the office of the President
This is just the beginning of a truly shocking and wholly unacceptable list of character qualities for the proverbial wearer of the one ring that controls them all. How do you successfully campaign around a citizenship that has decayed so dramatically?

As a nation we seem to have lost our capacity for compassion at the same time we lost the ability to see anyone but ourselves. I'll stay positive and remain the change I want to see in the world, but that steady uphill climb just got a lot ****ing steeper.

Compassion, empathy in the states is a bad word. People really don't give much **** about anything but their own ass on average. However, it's always been that way, even if for a time it seemed just a little different. It's always been the same story about how Americans are "exceptional" and all the crap. Pull yourself up by the bootstraps, die on the job cause hard work is great, retirement is an entitlement, also maybe one day, if you work hard enough, you might be that next elon. One thing we prove once again is that there's one thing that exceptional applies to here is the stupidity.

None, if your Putin. Everyone else, not so much.
I'm not Putin and I don't see any cons.
Even if I were Ukrainian, I still wouldn't see any cons here.

The war would stop, a lot of people would be alive and Ukraine would keep the land it lost since the "day Z" if the peace deal of March 2022 was accepted. Russia and Ukraine were almost ready to settle it in Istanbul but then your "peacekeeper" Boris Johnson urged Ukraine to fight until the last man. Which is why their men are still being forcibly grabbed from the streets to fight. On Ukrainian Telegram (and other social media) chats you can now see plenty of comments like "we should have ****ing settled it in March '22!".

Now, back to topic, I seriously doubt Trump will "end the war in 24 hours" like he promised and he definetly won't give up Ukraine to Russia. If he pushes on Zelensky to agree for negotiations with Russia, we'd be pleased, but if I were Putin I wouldn't rely too much on it. It's not like those hypothetical negotiations are guaranteed to be successful or that Trump is sure to even shrink the aid to Kiev.

After all, the US didn't stop arming Ukraine during Trump's first term.

Well... what can I say. Awful news but it should be noted that these results tells more about the Democratic Party than the Republicans or their voters. As others have pointed out, many people perceive both parties as pretty much the same, similar political lean and policies and what not. When you don't do a good job making sure to differentiate yourself from the others, well guess what you lose out. I mean, she was endorsed by D*ck Cheney for gods sake! While I can get the idea that Cheney isn't as bad as Trump, thus you should vote Democrat, given that Cheney was involved in the War on Terror, I don't know if he's that much better to be honest, and it sure as hell doesn't help if you want to convince voters critical of the Gaza War to vote for the party actively helping the bad guys out - even if, as I've said before, it's a bipartisan issue, not just a Democrat one.

So in a way, it was a defeat just waiting to happen. Just sucks that the rest of the world let alone the US has to suffer for it.

Four more years of being embarrassed to be American. God damn I wish I could vote for GWB right now. Our international situation is about to go to complete hell.

And he won the popular vote by not a small margin. Incredible. That's democracy, and Americans choose hate and crime, preferrably at the same time.

I mean, maybe it's time....

Okay, so I'm not actually advocating for a civil war, but let's be real, there's potentially 70 million+ people in the USA that want what Trump is selling. How do you ever get back to 'normal' without some kind of seismic course change? Trump appears to have a lot of support, and he's currently the bookies favourite, it's not like the party will get a reality check by being absolutely wiped out at the polls, and it's not like the Trump supporter base will just hold up their hands, say "oh well" and go home if Biden wins.

I'm just wondering if perhaps it needs to get worse before it can get better.
So, my feelings haven't really changed since I posted this. Perhaps, if the ill effects expected by many are manifested by 47, many people will come to realise how foolish they were, and it'll help drive out Trump style Republicanism... Or maybe it just won't be that bad.

Guess we'll find out.
