How can it be legal to have photographers there!?

It's a long way off the track and there is a Grandstand immediately behind the photographers.

Ferrari's fault?

Nobodies fault. McNish passed a slow Audi and never stood chance of even knowing the Ferrari was there. The Ferrari was on the racing line as it should be.

Well LMP1 vs a GT class.

The LMP1 is clearly faster so he could waited for the GT Ferrari to yeld.

It is not the responsibility of the slower car to get out of the way. The rule is to stay on the racing line. It is always the responsibility of the faster car to pass correctly.

I think the Audi was at fault, The Ferrari was already into the corner and the Audi tried to squeeze by... Unfortunate though.. Scary to. Anyone else notice the GT5 sponsorships on the entrance and chicanes of the Mulsanne straight?

In my opinion, and according to the rules it was McNish's fault. As a Prototype driver, you should be responsible for any passing either with another LMP car or a GT car. He was just too aggresive there.

I've seen many wrecks in many different types of motorsports. I can honestly say that I think the driver will be ok in most crashes, but that one scared the living 🤬 out of me. It's pure luck that no one was killed.

definitely not the ferrari's fault in my opinion. I don't think McNish realised the ferrari was there before it was too late.

Looks to me like McNish did a stupid overtake maneuver. He has a faster car than the Ferrari so it's his responsibility to make sure that the overtake is done in a safe way. I don't think his team manager is very happy with him now...

Thats true but seriously that tire barrier is just one meter high or so, if they want to put photographers there they should put a fence on it.

This was a racing incident, these things happen unfortunately.
Anyone else doing a b-spec 24 hours atm? I am, and the bobs are struggling in the rain

I'll agree with the commentators... Neither driver could see the other car well enough, leading to the collision. So, yeah, race accident, I think.

Indeed, the car caught some air before slamming into the barrier, Thank God the car caught the rail instead of flying over it.

Have to say that it was an overly aggressive move by McNish not even an hour into the race. A new car with less visibility and less hp to make passes would make one think to be even more cautious with passing.

Really now? You think the team manager isn't happy with him? Certainly wouldn't be my first thoughts after a accident like that.

Anyway, I really don't think it's McNish's fault. You can't see anything in those cars, he probably thought he was past the Ferrari, and the Ferrari driver probably couldn't see the Audi until too late.

Was just a very unfortunate racing accident.

Thank god no one got hurt. That could have been a fatal accident if the wreck cleared the fence. This shark fins have shown there worth.:(

Mcnish knew the Ferrari was there for sure. He just thought he had more room.
It´s up to the faster cars to ensure passes happen safely.
It´s not the first time where LMP1 drivers think of the track as their own.

Cool, Eurosport Germany shows a "Lucas-Ordonez from virtual racing to real racing" commercial and presents the GT-R accedamy.

You can´t expect them to dominate something when the car is totally new.
It needs time to find the speed, get to know the car etc even though diesel LMP´s still are the quickest of the bunch.

Is it too much to expect from a team such as AMR to complete as little as the first hour of a race with at least one car?

I never talked about dominating anything, but for a team such as AMR it's an embarrassment to have both of your cars into the garage with an engine problem after as little as 4 laps.

They could've at least do a Peugeot and take their time to properly prepare their Le Mans program.
