Can someone recap what happened to Jaime Melo in 59? I missed and they never really brought it back up.

Update: from Le Mans twitter it seems it was 58 that hit the tirewall at Muslanne I think Melo was in 59.

Great quali session,

Unbelievable that the first 6 cars are within 0.6 seconds..

We could be in for a cracker of a race this weekend!!

Can't wait for it all to start... :)

spy.

So, I don't understand how Le Mans qualifying works. Just a 2 hour shootout, and that's it?

No it's multiple sessions. I think two, but it might be three which count towards you're qualifying place.

I have a bit of a confusion with the update and the result at the lemans.org website. It states that the #56 BMW got a pole position while looking at the final result they published, it's the #55 that got pole?

I actually missed the session anyway...

EDIT: Did the #56 even got out of the pit after the incident?

So a GT Player is own pole for the Lemans 24 hours race.(GOes and plays some more :D )

Oh and GT5 Sponsers are all over the track .Can't Wait for the race

I'm amazed no one (from DeltaWing or anyone else) has addressed the issue of the front axle, it makes me think its a really easy or obvious answer. How does it turn a tight or even high speed corner without going over its grip limit? Surely designing the axle so short introduces a limit to how much the wheels/tyres can grip the road and turn the car? It doesn't matter how much downforce you create, if the mechanical/tyre grip of the car doesn't exist, its not going to turn.

All I can see in my head is this car understeering into every corner and constantly having to take extremely wide lines.

It also seems to me that the combination with the much wider rear axle will make the understeer/loss of grip issue worse, as the car won't lean at all. It takes away the weight transfer which surely creates the elements of oversteer which allows cars to make tight turns?

Well, the DeltaWing engineers know more than we do, and they are definitely not stupid, so they must have addressed this somehow.

Judging from their videos on their channel front grip doesn't seem to be much of a problem, but I can see them having front suspension problems.

AFAIK there are 3, 2 hour sessions. 1 on the Wednesday night, and the other 2 on the Thursday (at 6pm and 9pm)

This race should be Epic!

The top 6 covered by just over half a second! Normally one of the teams is much faster than the other, and the slower one has to hope for reliability.

This race will be won by the Audi or Peugeot that spends the least time in the pits.

Can't believe this is my first post on this year's race. Anyhow, because of the stupid ESPN/ABC online coverage, this will be my first time (and maybe only time) seeing some of the ALMS teams in action at Le Mans. I really don't know what to expect except the classic Le Mans drama that is put on every year. This year marks about the 10th or 11th time I've followed Le Mans live on TV. I've seen at least SOME coverage of Le Mans live every year since 2001. My first Le Mans I've seen on TV was in 2001 on Speed. First time I caught it live on (then) Speedvision.

Men and women at Le Mans, put on a great show for 2011! Best of luck to all teams and drivers in all respective classes this weekend.

Here's who I'll be pulling for this weekend. :)

Le Mans Legends starting now... bring on the Lotus's and Cobra's!

And D Types.... 250's....

Just waned to say hello - this is my 3rd time in a row watching the whole thing 24h :) eurosportplayer bought, well performing laptop taken from my workplace - I'm all set ;)

Audi looks amazing this year, however I'm still with Peugeot just like last 2 seasons.

Legends racing was better last year in my opinion - more interesting cars, although power slides looked nice this year.

I wonder if Nissan ever decides to switch to LMP1...

I'm all set for the race, just got another laptop to work with the timing screen, Twitter and possibly a stream once Eurosport cut it for Cycling and IAAF Diamond Olympics... Other than that, it should all be straight forward

I'm worried about my internet though, already passed the limit of my monthly quota :scared:

I'll be watching the race on tv, and getting a live stream up later tonight... found one with tons of stuff..

Normally I'd make a prediction but I'm not because Le Mans is so unpredictable, and this year very close. 3 hours to start...
